In the essay “Neat People vs. Sloppy People”, Suzanne Britt describes the distinct difference between neat people and sloppy people. Write about the oppositions you use to evaluate people. Smart versus dumb? Fit versus out-of-shape? Hip versus clueless? Rich versus poor? Outgoing versus shy? Open-minded versus narrow-minded?
Artists are usually smarter than people who don’t get involved with the arts. Artists are more willing to learn, more open-minded, and more compassionate than people who don’t try anything with the arts. When I am creating art, I feel a desire to learn more about the process of how history unraveled. Art stimulates my brain, causing me to ponder about new ideas I haven’t been taught yet. When I learn and understand the cause of an event, I begin to understand the cause of many events today. I do not judge a person as easily because art has a wide range of different areas – almost like how a person has a wide range of different personalities. Unlike artists, the non-artists don’t have a strong desire to learn. They don’t experience much diversity unless they deal with the arts. These people become more narrow-minded. They usually make snap judgements about people, and they aren’t willing to be open to new ideas. Lastly, artists work long and hard on many pieces that they create. Over time, this sparks compassion in them. I begin to feel strongly about my art and the ideas I present. This is good because it brings out a more sympathetic, more caring side of people whenever they talk about any sensitive topics. I have seen more artists discussing the issue of equality than I see non-artists. People who don’t involve themselves with arts are missing out on the strong compassion. Most of these people are in sports. The sports don’t allow for creativity, enforcing the idea of teamwork but not the idea of compassionate
