Gout Pathophysiology

...effects millions of people each year, due to an over production of Uric Acid in the body and is known to be one of the oldest pathologies to date (Milina, Sishila, & Neeraj, 2013). An overproduction of uric acid in the body can cause many complications, due to monosodium urate crystals developing in the synovial joints of the body (Olin, 2013). Metatarsal I is the most common joint affected by gout because it is so distal to the rest of the body, but it can also effect other joints of the body such as the ankles and knees (Dufton, 2011). Gout can be categorized in many different ways; a patient could be experiencing, gouty arthritis, acute gout, and chronic gout (Milina, Sishila,...

...uCASE SUMMARY Atlantic Computers A Bundle of Pricing Options 4/4/2011 Atlantic Computers is a leading developer of high-tech servers. It has recently decided to expand its product line downwards in order to take advantage of an emerging market for basic servers. Before it can launch the “Atlantic Bundle”, Atlantic Computers must decide which pricing strategy to implement. Of the four options: Status Quo, Competition Based, Cost-Plus, and Value in Use pricing, I believe the best option is Value-in-Use pricing. ATLANTIC COMPUTER: A BUNDLE OF PRICING OPTIONS Summary of the Situation Analysis Atlantic Computer is a manufacturer of servers and high-tech products. Two market segments exist in the server industry: High performance and Basic Servers. Atlantic Computers has held a 20% share of the High Performance market with their Radia servers being their premier product. However, the market for Basic servers is growing and this has caused Atlantic Computers to develop and introduce a Basic Server called the Tronn and a software tool called the “Performance Enhancing Server Accelerator” (PESA). The Tronn was developed mainly for the emerging US market opportunity for basic servers. The PESA would allow the Tronn to perform up to four times faster than its standard speed and make frequently requested information more accessible. Thus, bundling the Tronn and PESA made more sense. Atlantic is not concerned that the Tronn will be considered a substitute for its High Performance...

Chapter 10

...operators have unanimously cited both the steep Average Room Rates (ARRs) and shortfall in inventory as key deterrents that keep tourists from visiting India. Ashwini Kakkar Neeraj Ghei Himmat Anand Tour operators state that the problem is twofold, while the consequence is simply a low number of inbound tourists. Ashwini Kakkar, CEO and MD, Thomas Cook India Ltd “The problem is particularly serious in the metros. We are not just talking about incredibly high room rates which are disproportionate to the regional benchmark but the absolute non-availability of rooms at any cost. The implications of this in terms of the country’s economy, and Foreign Institutional Investment(FII) approach is far reaching and mostly detrimental. Our nearest and most formidable competitor, China has more than 100,000 rooms in its key industrial hub Shanghai. However India, which claims to draw parallels with it, has a paltry 92,000 rooms across the country. While in some cases, rooms available at an exorbitant cost might not deter the business traveller, there is not a compelling enough reason for tourists to spend such large sums on stay alone. Thus, inspite of reforms on the aviation front and the Ministry Of Tourism campaign, Incredible India, inbound tourism is threatened by stagnation.” Neeraj Ghei,...

The authors gained primary data by conducting surveys which 303 players participated in, with the questions consisting of performance enhancing attitudes, perfectionism and motivation among other factors. Their research focuses on reviewing the player’s answers to their surveys and their opinions on the different factors which could lead to drug abuse. This article is helpful to me as it indulges into the players own personal opinions on what factors lead to drug abuse in sports and there are multiple surveys in which these opinions are portrayed. The main limitation of the article is that the 303 participants were all in the age group of 18 to 35 which limits the opinions to older/former players or athletes. The authors of this article mention how much of this research is restricted to an individual’s perception rather than a whole team’s perception and that more in depth research needs to be conducted in order for this entire subject to be concluded. (Nadra E. Lisha, 2010) In this article the authors review data of 34 peer-reviewed quantitative...

Frindle

...Neeraj Periwal Mrs. Grube AM June 7, 2004 Frindle Have you ever thought of inventing your own word and have it emerge as an absolute sensation? In Frindle, a magnificent book by renowned author Andrew Clements, a young boy named Nicholas Allen is faced with a language-arts teacher who practically worships the dictionary. But it doesn’t stop there. From making students learn a new word out of the dictionary every day to making you do an oral report on the origin of English, Mrs. Granger tries hard to apply the dictionary into the lives of all the children she teaches. Mrs. Granger’s love of this everyday language fascinates Nick and he proceeds to make up his own word: frindle. Who says you can’t make up a word? Sure, a pen is named after the Latin pinna, but where did pinna come from, anyway? Nick was a curious boy with an extravagant idea. “Frindle” spreads quickly. Almost immediately after the new word infects the school, Mrs. Granger, infuriated with the spread of the word, keeps students who say “frindle” after school and causes uproar throughout the community. Now, “frindle” spreads even more, and even Nick is surprised as the new word dominates the whole country. From San Fran to Times Square, Nick’s new word is being put in everyone’s vocabulary. Nick just watches (and enjoys) as money piles up into his bank account from wild sales of T-Shirts, hats, frindles, and who-knows-what all based on Nick’s word. Nick is on TV, in magazines, and...

How Forensic Accounting Brought Down Al Capone and Enron

...The "Enron scandal" and the fall of Al Capone had similar characteristics The "Enron Scandal means more than just a tale of accounting manipulation. It surpassed all other accounting frauds, because it was not just a matter of hiding losses, Enron led the pack of white collar crimes committed out of pure greed. The same could be said for Al Capone. In the 1930,s Frank J Wilson was the man who spearheaded the campaign to convict Al Capon of tax evasion. During prohibition Capone dominated the city of Chicago. He owned or controlled speakeasies, distilleries, brothels, gambling houses, nightclubs and horse and dog tracks. He eventually controlled politics throughout most of Illinois. It was Capon's greed for money and power that eventually brought him down just as it did Enron. A lot of the same techniques were used to achieve this. Attempts by local and federal law enforcement agencies to build a racketeering case against him went nowhere, mainly because he bribed investigators, fixed judges and juries and intimidated(or eliminated) witnesses. He was very clever at covering his tracks. Elliot Ness and his squad of “Untouchables” tried to destroy the Capone Crime Syndicate with brute force which did not work. J Edgar Hoover refused to participate in the investigation. Al Capon paid no income tax on his illegal income. Although Capone lived opulently and spent money lavishly, he never filed a tax return. To get Capone on income tax evasion, the government had to prove he had...

Philosophy

...Logical Perspective Prof. Kumar Neeraj Sachdev Department of Humanities and Social Sciences Philosophical Perspectives     Ethical Perspective - Values Logical Perspective - Reasoning Epistemological Perspective Knowledge Metaphysical Perspective Reality Reasoning   Reasoning is a special kind of thinking in which problems are solved, in which inference takes place, that is, in which conclusions are drawn from premises. The logician is concerned primarily with the correctness of the completed process of reasoning. Nature of Reasoning     Typically, a piece of reasoning moves from one or more statements which are, at least provisionally, taken for granted to some other statement. A statement means what is typically asserted using a declarative sentence, and hence always either true or false – although its truth or falsity may be unknown. The starting points of reasoning are called the premises, the end-point the conclusion. A set of statements consisting of some premises and a conclusion is called an argument.       Examples of arguments: First: All rich people are happy and Hitesh is rich, therefore, Hitesh is happy. Second: The potatoes have been boiling for twenty minutes, therefore, they are cooked! A logical perspective begins in response to questions such as the following: Is this argument based on reason or experience? Is this argument correct (rationally defensible)? Does this argument preserve...

...Neeraj Gaur Mock Trial People v. Vega * Prosecution OPENING Your Honor, may I begin? We can all argue that Miranda warnings are not necessary if the suspect is not in custody. The prosecution will argue that Adrian Vega was not in custody when speaking to Officer Wright. Adrian’s freedom was not restricted in any way because Adrian voluntarily sat inside the police cruiser to get out of the cold air. Both Officer Wright and Adrian sat inside the police cruiser only because of the cold weather. Adrian never asked to leave, never asked if the doors were locked, and was never told to stay by Officer Wright. Furthermore since Officer Wright did not need to Mirandize Adrian, her bracketed statement should be admissible in court. CASES * Berkemer v. McCarty * In this case, the officer did not need to Mirandize the defendant because he was not in custody; Miranda warnings are only given when a person is in custody and their freedom is significantly restrained. The court decided that the Officers do not need to Mirandize at traffic stops or evening when roadside questioning is taken into effect, considering it was not “custodial interrogation”. Adrian was not in custody when Officer Wright was talking to her. She voluntarily sat inside the police cruiser because it was too cold outside; her freedom was not retrained from her. * Oregon v. Mathison * This case also talks about how the defendant voluntarily comes into the police station and speaks about...

When the Blood Turns Saffron

...WHEN THE BLOOD TURNS SAFFRON OR GREEN SUMIT DALAL Assistant professor Delhi University Abstract – India being home to countless communities and religion, taking pride in its diversity, is yet to fulfil the dream of secularism in a real sense. Even in 21st century when communal riots can be the potent way to settle political scores, it takes no time to understand that there is something severely wrong at the top level. Therefore the masses need to understand that ultimately its they who suffer and mourn, the ruling elite class goes untouched as always. The solution can thus, only come from the mango people itself. Keywords- communal violence, bloodshed, caste and communities, religion, indifferent authorities. Right in the middle of the violent clashes, the critically acclaimed Bollywood movie released a way back in 1995, demands a mention to portray the recent communal turmoil. The hindu protagonist in the film cuts the wrist of himself and his muslim love interest to prove that the blood flowing is of the same colour, making it impossible to differentiate on any basis, leave alone religion. Mr. Mani Ratnam would have never thought that his plot would win the test of times and still stand relevant in the seventh decade of independence of world’s largest democracy. With an economy among the world’s ten largest India’s status as a re-emerging global power is now not just recognised, but is increasingly institutionalised with a seat in G-20 , increasing clout in international...

Investor Pitch to Headout

...Headout, a mobile travel application that functions as sort of a mobile concierge, helping you find tours, activities and tickets to local events in select U.S. cities, has closed on $1.8 million in seed funding in order to expand its business to new markets. Currently only live in New York and Los Angeles, the startup says it plans to utilize the funds to reach 12 more cities by year-end. This includes expansions into San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington D.C., Miami, and others over the next few months. Describing itself as an “Uber for tours,” the startup first began as Bangalore-based Tourlandish, and was initially targeting travel to and from Asia. But the company, which later participated in the 500 Startups accelerator program, shut down that app and relaunched with one focused on New York tours and events instead. After being live in New York for around six months, Headout launched in Las Vegas as its second supported city. Today, Headout has close to 500 last-minute activities available in its application, which the startup reports are anywhere from five to ten times more than its competitors offer. There are also 300 more vendors on waitlists for inclusion. Not all vendors are able to participate in Headout, however. Instead, the company tests out the activities in advance in order to vet them. If approved, the vendors are then given access to their own standalone mobile application that allows them to control when their activities are made available...
