The man on the moon
In the year 1969, for the first time ever a man set foot on the moon. It made the news everywhere and it was a very risky mission but it got completed. In the passages we read, it showed us four perspectives. A news article, a speech, a commentary and a political cartoon. All four of these perspectives showed an interaction among the speaker, audience, and subject. Which is called the rhetorical triangle. When someone uses the rhetorical triangle or ethos, pathos, and logos, it makes the passages much more interesting and you’ll get a better understanding on what they are trying to inform. In the first passage, Neil Armstrong is describing his experience being the first man on the moon. The New York Times did a really good job informing the …show more content…
Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin were really brave going into that mission because they were many risks. The speech was named “In Event Of Moon Disaster” and it was revealed in 1999. In this passage they used logos. In the speech it said, “They will be mourned by their families and friends; they will be poured by their nation; they will be mourned by a Mother Earth that dared send two of her sons into the unknown.” They used pathos because he would've been showing emotion to them if something had gone terribly wrong. They also used pathos to make the passage more clearer and it was much more interesting to read.
The third text is a commentary made by a novelist named Ayn Rand. It’s named “Launch: A Symbol of Man’s Greatness” published on July 16, 1969. This passage gives us more description of what actually happened that day. It is also using the Rhetorical Triangle. The speaker is Ayn Rand, the audience are the readers and the subject is the Mission Apollo 11.
