1. I don't believe movie rental market competition strength is very strong now. Many people watch TV movies, or watch it on the Internet, and many of the video is free in YouTube. Some place still open the movie rent store like movie gallery, but most of these companies are closed.
For rival, there is not much rivalry in the movie rental industry. Only three big companies: Blockbuster, Netflix, and Red box. For substitutes, the only threat of substitutes that I knew is websites that provide movies online. For buyer, Buyers in these areas is very powerful. If buyers do not want to rent a movie, or just have no money to pay the subscription, they don't order it. For supplier, the power of supplier is strong, but consumers can go to the store …show more content…
My strategic group map have two competitive factors those are price and availability. And competitors include Blockbuster, Netflix, Local vendors, and Red box.
Netflix is in a great place on the strategic group map. It has highest product availability, because it allowed users to watch both Hollywood and Sundance-type films along with TV shows.

4. The key factors that will determine a company's success in the movie rental industry in the next 3-5 years would include: Economy, Mail system well-known brand and Satellite and cable companies.

5. Netflix strategy is include: viding subscribers with a comprehensive selection of DVD; Acquiring new content by building and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with entertainment video providers; Making it easy for subscribers to identify movies; Giving subscribers a choice of watching streaming content; Spending aggressively on marketing to attract subscribers; Gradually transitioning subscribers to streaming delivery.
Netflix is taking generic strategies like broad differentiation strategy, focused differentiation strategy, and best-cost provider strategy.

...Netflix and Porter’s 5 forces I have been an active Netflix user for a couple of years now and have seen several different pricing strategies implemented.  I was reading this article about the effects of the latest changes in the company’s pricing structure yesterday and I got to thinking about the “why’s” of this decision. Why would Netflix choose to change it’s pricing structure?  From the framework of the five forces: Suppliers:  as far as I can figure, suppliers don’t put a whole lot of pressure on Netflix.  The company must keep enough DVDs in stock to handle customer demand (there are drops in the number of subscribers who will still be renting DVDs) but that hasn’t changed much. Substitution:  again, I don’t think this has much to do with the changes.  Customers could choose to go see a movie in the theater, but that isn’t a very comparable substitute as movie theaters offer new movies (for about $8 a pop) while Netflix offers old movies (for a flat $8/$16 a month depending on the service (DVD, streaming, or both). Threat of new entry:  There aren’t too many threats of new entry here either, as the main players in this competition have already been well established (Netflix, Redbox, Hulu, Blockbuster). ...Netflix Netflix Inc. had its start in 1997 when it was incorporated by its current CEO and founder, Reed Hastings. It was not until 1999 that Netflix finally began to rent movies to its customers. At its origin, Netflix was a DVD rental service that only rented through the mail.
