...CRT/205 Evaluating Media for Creditability The news broadcast that I watched was local channels. Channel 7 and Channel 2, they are really the only channels that I watch. The times of the broadcast were both 11:00pm news on Friday July7th 2012. I recorded the one channel while I watched the other. I decided on local news because I knew that these would be more similar then the national broadcasts because they have such a wide range of things to report on, where the local is just in your area so the stories should be similar. The news channel that I felt was more credible was channel 2. The reason why I think that channel two news was more credible is because they were more through with their reports on each story and they always had witness either involved or around to put in their thoughts or insight. I think that they are more rounded when it comes to reporting on a story. I think that this is funny that I feel this way because I favor channel 7 personally, I always watch channel 7 and no other channel so I am a little shocked with my own findings. I can tell that they are all about getting as much information out about something as quickly as possible. Each segment was short but supplied a lot of information and like I said they were always on site, so where ever the story was they were reporting from there. Images have a powerful impact on a viewer’s response towards news and this impact cannot be created by text alone. A critical examination of three recent news events (see appendix) and analysis of the images that they utilise, reveals the communicative functions and the connotative force that is carried in news photography (Bednarek and Caple 2012, pg. 57). Under the new framework, online news sites that report a minimum of one article a week on Singaporean news and have a minimum of 50,000 unique local Internet Protocol (IP) addresses a month over a period of two months will need an individual licence. In addition to the new ruling, licensees need to provide a performance bond of $50,000. Non-commercial or non-profit based sites are not exempted from this ruling (Ministry of Communications and Information, 2013). Apart from the performance bond, online news sites are to remove prohibited content within 24 hours when notified by MDA. SNews'r'us has recorded 60,000 Singaporean visits each month and has been reporting solely Singaporean news since 2007.
