...beings. The only reason why some of the members of the tribe are being a danger to the modern people is that they feel threaten. It’s saddening that slowly the tribes are disappearing and that some people just forget about them like they never existed. Well honestly, they are not the only ones that will be gone but the beautiful surroundings that they are also trying to preserve. Like the forest in Brazil, it is the Surui Indian tribe who are protecting this from the illegal loggers. Their lives are being threatened and they have no one protecting them from it except with their beliefs. It’s really a relief that they have Almir Suri who is part of their tribe and is really trying to fight for the tribe’s survival. Even though he had study in a nice university outside their place, he hasn’t forgotten where he came from and is still ready to help them grow more. Also, I think Almir is trying to show the world that he can also put up with the abilities of the modern people, that even though he started from being a member of a tribe whose life is just simple yet civilized, he knows what the overall people...

...What Every MBA Student in the World Needs to Know Sandeep Krishnamurthy http://faculty.washington.edu/sandeep 1 Management ≠ analysis. What you are learning in school is analysis. You are being taught tools and techniques. Analysis is just one of the ingredients in the recipe. You may have the best analysis in the room. However, if your analysis is not heard and taken seriously, it is of no value. Too often, talented people with the best answers sit in the back of the room while hacks run the show. If you enjoy the view from the back, getting an MBA will not change anything. A MBA degree only works if you are willing to transform yourself. Are you? 2 Einstein would have been a terrible manager. There is a huge misconception among students that being smart is the way to be successful. Let me break this to you. It is not about being smart. There are many smart people who are absolutely incompetent managers. Not to mention the fact that many smart people are first-rate jerks. Don’t get me wrong. I am not saying you have to be dumb to succeed. What I am saying is that you do not have to be a Mensan to make it to the top. All you need is average intelligence. But, you need other qualities. 3 Bill Clinton would have been an excellent manager. The man had his faults. But, he could communicate like few others. Book Review: Nice Guys Can Get the Corner Office

...Book Review: Nice Guys Can Get the Corner Office What is this book about? In the book Nice Guy Can Get the Corner Office, the author challenged the adage “Nice guys finish last.” He believed that a guy can be nice and successful at business at the same time. The subtitle would tell us better about what’s in this book: "Eight Strategies for Winning in Business without Being a Jerk." The author defines “nice” as a constructive and consciously chosen approach to relationships that is founded on: * Attempting to optimize outcomes for both others and ourselves * Striving to balance assertiveness with cooperation to achieve a spirit of collaboration * Honoring the value and strength of others and ourselves * Seeking optimal outcomes for everyone involved by emphasizing truthfulness and authenticity * Opening confronting challenges and disagreements and embracing the innovation-promoting benefits of constructive idea conflict The author also defines “success in business” as need are fulfilled—individual’s need as well as the needs of others. The authors surveyed more than 350 nice guys and found out that most of them are “too nice”. And these overly nice guys are always struggling between “eager to please others” (being too nice) and “fulfill their own needs (being successful in business).” This book gives eight strategies to help those overly nice guys balance being nice and being a jerk when achieving success. These eight strategies consists of eight rights...

Qualities of a Good Neighbor

...desirable neighbors. It is a fact that all of us have our own difficulties and nothing is more meaningful than a hand given to us in time of need. For instance, when you are busy organizing a get-together with all members in your family but the fact that you have forgotten to purchase one of the most important ingredients threatens to ruin your main dish. However, you can easily have the neighbors to travel to the market and buy it for you. That’s an accurate picture of a helpful neighbor who you should be grateful to. Furthermore, a kind neighbor from my point of view would have the quality of sympathy. Having someone to care about you and share their feelings with you is necessary when you are experiencing a tough time in life . For example, a nice neighbor to a widow who has just lost her husband in a terrible accident must help her to overcome with grief. There may be cases where there are children whose their parents got dirvoced. In such cases, a good neighbor is required to treat them equally to other kids instead of gossiping anything about them. In addition to helpfulness and sympathy, a neighbor who possess a sense of integrity would be perfect. I can endure the fact that there are some two-faced people who always steal my properties such as water, electricity supply and even illegaly use my wireless internet connection. To sum up, my portrait of an obliging neighbor must be a caring, sympathetic and trustworthy...

Love

...protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preserves”. (1 Corinthians 13:1) Love is something wonderful. Love decides everything in this world. It doesn‘t have any conditions or boundaries. We don’t know exactly what love is and where it comes from. But one thing is sure: we are nothing without love! There are times when we feel shy and timid, when we are afraid of expressing the love we feel. Being afraid of embarrassing the other person or ourselves we hesitate to say the actual words “I love you”. One can say “I love you” in many ways: by means of nice presents and little notes, smiles and sometimes tears. Sometimes we show our love when we are quiet and do not say a word, at the other times – we speak loud to express it. Sometimes we show our love by impulsiveness. Many times we have to show our love when we forgive someone. The problem with our world is that people don’t learn to listen to each other. They hear the words, but they don’t listen to the actions that accompany the words and do not mind the expression on the face. We have to listen to see love in and around...

...CHAPTER 1 HISTORY OF LANGUAGE Language is a set of symbols of communication and the elements used to manipulate them. It is one of the most important innovations of men. Language can be used in different ways for different purposes. But mostly, its primary use is for communication. Language was considered to have a “life cycle” and to develop according to evolutionary laws. In addition, it was believed that language, like the human animal, has a “genealogical tree” –that is, that each language can be traced back to a common ancestor.” Ethnologue organization, the most extensive catalog of the world’s languages, presented a detailed classified list which currently includes 6,809 distinct languages. Although there are many languages, these are not uniformly distributed around the world. Some places are more diverse in terms of distribution of languages. According to Stephen Anderson (YEAR) of the Linguistic Society of America (LSA), out of Ethnologue’s 6,809, for instance, only 230 are spoken in Europe, while 2,197 are spoken in Asia. Among these 2,197 languages in Asia, 171 are spoken in the Philippines. Associated with language are the different systems of writing in the past. Hieroglyphics and cuneiform are some of them. But here in our country, alibata is the primitive form of writing. It is also known as baybayin which literally means “to spell.” It is used even before the Spaniards conquered our country. Mm578 Writing Tips for Success

...Writing Tips to enhance your writing effectiveness Having facilitated several MKTG578 courses, I have noticed a consistent string of grammar, punctuation, or syntax (words incorrectly positioned in a sentence) errors that seemingly appear over and over again in my adult learners' papers. As ALL written submissions are evaluated for their graduate-level writing, it is time to grab the bull by the horns and eliminate those pesky habits that one has developed over the years! To help you get a FAST start, please review the following… and demonstrate to me your assimilation of each in your written assignment submissions and threaded discussion postings! 1. A good paragraph focuses on ONE theme of thought. The best paragraphs are those that do not exceed 6-8 lines. Paragraphs that are longer than 6-8 lines result in the human eye becoming "lost in a sea of of words." You will note this paragraph is five lines; it is much easier to read than a paragraph that would have, e.g., fourteen lines. Always ask yourself whether you are attempting to write more than necessary. 2. Notice the above paragraph. The last word is necessary. Because it stands by itself, that one word is called a "widow." Try to avoid widows when writing. 3. The best sentences are those that contain FEWER than 25 words. The longer the sentence, the more punctuation is required… and the more difficulty a person has reading AND comprehending that which you have written. On the other...

...trying to express his feelings and describe the place and people. It is quite easy to understand what this essay is about and what author wants from reader by just reading one sentence from each paragraph. 3. There are couple examples where Percy used figurative language: One of them is “Into this soil-this dry, unforgiving soil – the larvae of the Pandora moth drops like a seed.” Another one is “Their brightly blond hair appears flattened out of gold.” I think by using figurative language Percy wants to better explain what specific place and object, which is in my opinion very effective because it makes essay look more understandable. Percy’s choice of words is great too, which entertain readers. 4. As I mentioned before Percy’s use of metaphors in his essay “Invasion” is very effective since he’s got a very nice choice of words that attract readers. Percy uses extended metaphor very effectively too. He compares to unlike things and continues it throughout few sentences. But comparing to short metaphors extended one doesn’t help him as much as short ones because of its size. 5. Words Mean What They Mean

...Kacie Kondrotis Professor Goodwin 9/15/14 Words Don’t Mean What They Mean Steven Pinker, a psychology professor at Harvard University, is the author of “Words Don’t Mean What They Mean”. He argues that there are many categories in which people transfer information and progress to settle that relation. He expresses that phrases convey meanings in the context being used and how this can help or decrease communication between humans. Pinker declares that our language is used through many different variations. From “sexual come-ons”(p.113), which note the phrase “would you like to come up and see my etchings?”(p.113) to the veiled threat that is told within a certain set of words. Pinker declares a veiled threat as if a “Mafia”(p.113) guy wants to offer protection and says, “nice store you got there. Would be a real shame if something happened to it.”(p.113) Which then leads Pinker to discuss the reality of “why don’t people just say what they mean?”(p.113) His discussions sum up to the fact that when humans speak to each other it’s because we have some sort of familiarity with them and each sentence you speak “conveys a message and continues to negotiate that relationship”(p.113). Pinker describes it most similar to “ordinary politeness”(p.113) or more clearly written as when we want the salt at dinner. If you want to seem rational and polite you would say “gimme the salt”(p.113), humans change the language to, as Pinker calls it, a “wimperative”(p.113) that creates...
