Nordstrom is said to be one of the best investments in retail, then again just like every other business, it has its weaknesses. Currently, it operates 292 locations located in America and slowly expanding in North America. Although it is unheard of or unpopular when it comes to the European and Middle Eastern continents where population and high end society is present. Their lack of presence in these countries can be a weakness the company may face in the future for other companies in the same industry as Nordstrom can have this to their competitive advantage when it comes to expanding worldwide. In this case, Nordstrom should look into slowly expanding onto the other side of the Atlantic Ocean as well. This can be a competitive advantage for them against their current competitors and also by bringing in other cultures and their sense of fashion and style, it can attract many more clients in these continents. This can also increase their power in suppliers and buyers for they will be dealing and be providing to customers around the world. Nordstrom has a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) program where it concentrates on 4 major areas; the community, the environment, the human rights of people and caring for the people. The main purpose of this program is for Nordstrom to make a difference in these areas that affect society. Within each of these categories, there are different programs and partnerships that help out the cause. Since Nordstrom is a large company and serves too many customers in their available locations, this program will provide a great impact on society. Since Nordstrom focuses on these different categories all at the same time, it can become a weakness. When it comes to quality over quantity, at the moment their concentration is being divided in so many areas where they cannot focus on certain problems they are having or change detailed aspects to make the category work more efficiently. Also, they are making a difference but not many people know about it for there isn’t much publicity or press on it. In order to deal with these weakness for the future, Nordstrom should divide their concentration on this program by focusing and taking charge of one category at a time or per year. This way they will have more time to focus on the detailed aspects that can be improved to make a difference in society. Also, they can add more publicity and press on their CSR program so that more people can hear about it and get involved. They should market this initiation to motivate people to wanting to make a difference in their society.

...Nordstrom Market Selection 1.) I feel Nordstrom’s is opening more Nordstrom Rack stores, as they trying to target customers who are middle class and may not have a very strong cash flow. They may be customers that would shop at Nordstrom and spend money on the name brands in the store, but they do not have the money so they shop at the Rack. This may help move customers to shopping Nordstrom’s, if their financial situation improves. I feel with the economy in the past 10 years there are thriftier shoppers and the majority of people are probably middle class or lower. These people are able to afford items at the Rack and save money. I personally will go into Nordstrom to check out the more specialty items and to be shocked to look at the clothing prices. However, I am more likely to buy clothes from the Rack, but I still find some of the Rack prices to be high. 2.) It appears Nordstrom’s market expansion strategy is producing positive results. The annual sales have increased, however profit seemed to decline. That may be expected when putting money into expanding stores and opening in new territories.
