Course Procedures to

be Followed: This course is a hybrid course. The hybrid class meets less than the regular Spanish class. It is the responsibility of the student to cover all required material within the semester. This course requires permission of the professor, and the student must sign a contract before s/he may take the course.

You will be expected to maintain contact with the professor throughout the entire semester. You will have substantial work outside of class. Learning a language in a hybrid language program is probably unlike any other course you have taken before. In a traditional language course the instructor provides the organization, sets the pace, and gives necessary guidance and explanations. In the Spanish hybrid class, the responsibility for learning falls directly on you, the student. Due to the nature of this program, you will find that it requires a great deal of time, energy, and self-direction as well as self-discipline.

There are workbook pages to complete, lab exercises to cover, and various online activities that accompany your text. You will also need to purchase the additional online access. Much of your work will be completed through the Vistas Web-SAM.

Learning Tools: There are a number of activities to assist you with the acquisition of Spanish in this course. Below is a description of these activities/tools:

Tutorials: For each Lección (both contextos and estructuras), there are online tutorials. These tutorials go over vocabulary and grammar. The contextos tutorials help with pronunciation and memorization of vocabulary. In the estructura section, grammatical concepts are explained. In a regular class, these concepts are taught to you by the professor. In a hybrid class, you go over these tutorials on your own, and you will practice the concepts in class with the professor.

Discussions: For each Lección, there will be a discussion thread/bolg in Desire 2 Learn. Students will be able to pose questions and ask for clarification on any topic in the text. Other students may respond to student questions, and the professor will also respond and provide clarification.

Practice and Web-SAM: These are two sections of the online work that are graded. Students are required to complete the assigned sections. These sections provide students with exercises on all the topics covered in the lessons. Students receive instant feedback on each activity. The purpose of these activities is to provide students with opportunities to practice the material and get immediate corrections. Remember, these are required, and they are graded. However, students will receive FULL credit for completing these exercises, regardless of how many correct responses they give.

Class: The purpose of the classroom meetings is to provide additional support to students. Therefore, students must come to class prepared (completed assigned online work, memorized vocabulary, and ready to use the language). The professor will also provide any additional explanations on the material covered in the text. Class time will also be used for assessment (e.g., quizzes, tests, and interviews).

Academic Enhancement Center (AEC): There are students who can provide tutoring to Spanish students. These tutors have gone through the material, are familiar with the text, and have an excellent command of the language. If you are having difficulty in Spanish, you should visit the AEC and get additional support.

Assessment Tools: Exams 25% Quizzes 25% Student Activities Manual 30% Composition 10% Interview 10%

Exams: There will be exams at the end of every two lessons. See the syllabus for dates. These exams will cover topics from each lección.

Quizzes: There will be quizzes throughout the semester. Quizzes will not be announced. They are “pop” quizzes. Therefore, it is imperative that students come to class prepared. The lowest quiz grade will be dropped. There are no make-ups for quizzes. If a student misses a class when there is a quiz, that quiz will be dropped (only once).

Student Activities Manual: This is available online. It is an electronic version of the printed Vistas Student Activities Manual. The Web-SAM delivers the entire workbook, video manual and laboratory manual online with automatic scoring. It also includes the complete laboratory audio and video program. You will complete all your work electronically and get instant feedback to the questions you answer. You will complete and submit the assigned exercises for two separate areas: 1) the Practice, and 2) Web-SAM. Due dates for each Lección are on the syllabus and on the Vistas Web site. You must complete the assigned work by the due date. Work completed after the due date will NOT receive credit. In addition to the required assignments, there are tutorials for many of the lessons. Although the tutorials are not graded, you will find them very helpful.

Composition. You will write a composition on a topic assigned by the professor. See the course outline for the due date. Details of the composition (how to submit, number of words, topic, etc.) are located on Blackboard.

Interview. Part of the final exam will consist of an interview. These interviews will take place in the professor’s office. A signup sheet will be available towards the end of the semester. Details of the interview are located on Desire 2 Learn.

Missed Work: Students are responsible for completing all assignments on time. Moreover, students are required to attend class and take all quizzes and exams. However, emergencies do arise. If a student misses an exam, a doctor’s excuse is required. Quizzes CANNOT be taken late; if a quiz is missed, the grade will be dropped (only once). Online work must be completed by the deadline. The deadline to complete the online work will NOT be extended.

Grading Scale: A 90 - 100 Excellent B 80 - 89 Good C 70 - 79 Fair D 60 - 69 Poor F below 60 Failure

Course Changes: The course syllabus provides a general plan for this course. The professor reserves the right to make changes to the syllabus, including changes to assignments, projects, case studies, examinations, etc., in order to accommodate the needs of the class as a whole and fulfill the goals of the course.

The Paper of Papers

...I'm sorry but I don't want to be an Emperor, that's not my business. I don't want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone if possible, Jew, gentile, black man, white. We all want to help one another, human beings are like that. We all want to live by each other's happiness, not by each other's misery. We don't want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone and the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful. But we have lost the way. Greed has poisoned men's souls, has barricaded the world with hate; has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed but we have shut ourselves in: machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical, our cleverness hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little: More than machinery we need humanity; More than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost. The aeroplane and the radio(internet) have brought us closer together. The very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in men, cries out for universal brotherhood for the unity of us all. Even now my voice is reaching millions throughout the world, millions of despairing men, women and little children, victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people. To those who can hear me I say "Do not despair". The misery that is...

Analysts often obtain these from estimation services. * Fundamental betas (bottom-up): betas determined by (i) type of businesses the firm in is, (ii) degree of operating leverage (fixed costs relative to total costs), (iii) firm’s financial leverage. * Accounting betas: look at changes in the firms’ earnings vs. changes in earnings for the market. * For private firms, may have to estimate betas using comparable publicly traded firms. * Estimating the cost of equity * Cost of equity is the return shareholders expect to make. ...Introduction A system is made up of different tissues and organs working together to perform a specific function in the body. Skeletal system: Skeletal system is the system of bones, associated cartilages and joints of human body. Together these structures form the human skeleton. Skeleton can be defined as the hard framework of human body around which the entire body is built. Almost all the hard parts of human body are components of human skeletal system. Joints are very important because they make the hard and rigid skeleton allow different types of movements at different locations. If the skeleton were without joints, no movement would have taken place and the significance of human body no more than a stone. Components of Human Skeleton Human skeleton is composed of three main components; Bones, Associated cartilages and Joints. Bones: Bone is a tough and rigid form of connective tissue. It is the weight bearing organ of human body and it is responsible for almost all strength of human skeleton. Cartilages: Cartilage is also a form of connective tissue but is not as tough and rigid as bone. The main difference in the cartilage and bone is the mineralization factor. Bones are highly mineralized with calcium salts while cartilages are not. Joints: Joints are important components of human skeleton because they make the human skeleton mobile. A joint occurs between “two or more bones”, “bone and cartilage” and “cartilage and cartilage”. Divisions of Human Skeleton:...

...How Can We Know the Bible Is the Word of God? A Religion Profile from International Students, Inc. The Question Posed Christians claim the Bible is God’s Word. That means that they believe the Bible is a verbal revelation from God that makes it unique from every other book. But how can such a claim be verified? First, we would expect certain things to be true about a book from God. Such characteristics might also be true about humanly-authored books, but we would expect that, at the very least, they would be true about God’s book. Such characteristics would include the following: • It would claim to be God’s Word. • It would be historically accurate when it speaks on historical matters. • Its authors would be trustworthy. • It would be thematically unified and without contradictions. • We would have received accurate copies of the original manuscripts. Second, because God is unique, His book would bear characteristics that could be true of it alone. Such characteristics would distinguish God’s book from all other books in such a way that it could not be counterfeited. These characteristics would include the following: • It would make statements that would reveal knowledge about the way things work beyond the knowledge of its day. • It would make predictions about the future that could not be known through natural means. • The message would be unique. • The messengers would be confirmed by miracles. • The words would have a transforming power. Now let’s look at the characteristics...
