...Mohamed Rawoof Steffann/ENG111 11/22/2012 How to Defeat Greed People always want to chase their ambitions, and fulfill their dreams, but once they have reached it, new goals are created. Greed to set higher standards in life is a common way of being dissatisfied. Income is a great example of dissatisfaction amongst many people, but the key to satisfaction is not reaching a specific income, or accomplishing a goal, but rather achieving happiness. Money is a great desire for most people, but the rich can still be just as unsatisfied as the poor .This happens because the perspective of money is not depended entirely on wealth, it is also on the desire a person has for it. Someone can remain forever unsatisfied by money because of their view on it. Some people perceive money to be evil because of the way it controls a financial life-style, but it is merely just a tool from a rational perspective. Changing the perspective of money can change the outlook of life because it can help avoid selfish desires and make a person more financially stable (Klontz). If there was only one person in the world, and he was a billionaire, he couldn’t be considered “rich” because he wouldn’t have the “poor” to compare to. If rich and poor are measurements of wealth, they only exist due to comparison. This means that eliminating a view point based on comparison also has an effect on a person’s view of wealth. Gambling is the perfect example of the human’s dilemma. Many people are aware that...

Magnets fall off of the toy and children swallow the magnets which can cause stomach flu like symptoms and has even caused one child to die. Another problem is Mega Brands refusing to cooperate with the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission. According to CPSC.com, “The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risks of injury or death from thousands of types of consumer products under the agency's jurisdiction. The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission is committed to protecting consumers and families from products that pose a fire, electrical, chemical, or mechanical hazard or can injure children.” The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission has a job to do as well as Mega Brands. From one business to another, Mega Brands should have responded to the recalls that could have prevented a lot of children from being sick. According to our text on page 263 “data was submitted covering 1,500 complaint reports made to Mega Brands”. Mega Brands “lacked an organized comprehensive reporting system.” (Brooks, Leonard J. Page 263.) If the organization was better this complaints could have been a red flag to get the toys off of the market. The concerns that I would express to the CEO about the Magnetix to issues would be that there has been a reported death from our toys. This alone should make the...

P MC P1 MR D 0 Q1 Q At: Q1 MR=MC; P > MC/ATC (ATC not at minimum) A monopolistically competitive company reaches the maximum-profit output at the point where marginal revenue (MR) is equal to marginal cost. Profit will be greater than marginal cost and average total cost. At this point, profits cannot be increased by changing the production level. Increases in production will cause a decline in profits, because it adds more to cost. Decreasing production will decrease revenue, since there will less inventory to sell. The profits shown in this graph cannot be maintained, since other firms will also produce similar products. This causes the demand curve to become more elastic, and shift back toward the origin, until it becomes tangent...

Identify Applicable Regulatory Compliance Polikcies

...Applicable regulatory compliance requirements for business situations. Marcie Snow, Marsha Williams, Raja Misra, Brandi Clark LAW/531 25 May 2015 Susan Purvin This paper identifies applicable regulatory compliance requirements for foreign trade to ensure protection of technology patents for foreign investors. It describes the reason it is necessary for laws to be set up, as well as procedures put in place for disputes when the laws are violated. With so much business being done between foreign countries, it is important for laws to be in place to avoid theft or reverse engineering of product or technology. The requirement of contracts is necessary and must be set up in a way that give specific information on how these foreign trades are to take place. In giving specific information the contracts ensure understanding for the business trade between the countries for the companies doing business. With contracts in place between the companies it is easier to hold a country accountable for illegal business practices which could possibly take place. The good thing about the law, is that all contracts must be approved by the government before trade takes place. This ensures that the contracts are fair and does not violate any of the laws set in place. Due to the differences in cultural beliefs within the different countries, the laws make it easier to do trade across the nations without the disagreements that could possibly cause issues. If a law is violated by...

Context is the the commons and background knowledge that needs to be known and shared before effective communication between people. The more shared background knowledge is, the more commons there are. In detail, in communication in high-context culture, most of the information exists in the physical environment, or internalized in the individual body, and rarely exists in the encoding of the transmission of information. In communication in the low-context culture, a good amount of information exists in languages with clear encoding. For example: Navorski can only speak very limited English and have big problems communicating with Americans, which can be seen from the communication process in the beginning of the movie when Thurman and Frank Dixon asked him questions and he always gave an irrelevant answer. At the beginning, he could only use body gestures to communicate. However, North American is low-context culture while Bulgaria I suppose belongs to high context culture. Americans would feel it difficult to decode Bulgarian’s encoding, while language barrier makes Bulgarian’s...

Usage of Applicable Mathematics in Biomedical Engineering (Macro and Micro Biomechanics)

...Usage of Applicable Mathematics in Biomedical Engineering (Macro and Micro Biomechanics) Biomedical engineering is an emerging discipline which links medicine, biology, and technology in order to tackle medical problems using an engineering approach. As such, it is heavily influenced by engineering principles and uses applicable mathematics in nearly all of its aspects. It is important to note that applied mathematics (vector algebra, calculus, numerical approaches to solving functions, etc.) is a language, which evolved to serve the needs of science and particularly those of classical (Newtonian) mechanics. Thus, it describes and explores natural phenomena using mathematical functions and relations. As biomedical engineering incorporates many engineering spheres, it employs applicable mathematics in numerous situations. The following is an overview of the applications of mathematics in solving macro-biomechanical, and micro and nano-scale challenges in biomedical engineering. Biomechanics is a field of biomedical engineering which analyses the behaviour of structures and materials in biological or medical applications [1]. It is closely related to the field of prosthetics and uses mathematical analysis to design and test better devices. Dynamic analysis of systems involves constructing free-body diagrams and resolving forces acting on the components. Using partial derivatives and integration can vastly simplify biomechanical problems by switching between the domains...

The Essential Elements of a Contract and the Applicable Remedies in the Event of a Breach.

...Business I. The essential elements of a contract and the applicable remedies in the event of a breach. Four Essential Elements of a Contract An agreement must contain four essential elements to be regarded as a contract. If any one of them is missing, the agreement will not be legally binding. a. Offer There must be a definite, clearly stated offer to do something. For example: A quotation by sub-contractor to the main contractor and an offer to lease. An offer does not include ball park estimates, requests for proposals, expressions of interest, or letters of intent. An offer will lapse: * when the time for acceptance expires * if the offer is withdrawn before it is accepted * After a reasonable time in the circumstances (generally the greater the value of the contract, the longer the life of the offer). Invitation to treatAn invitation to treat is a mere declaration of willingness to enter into negotiations; it is not an offer, and cannot be accepted so as to form a binding contract. An agreement is not created if there is an acceptance of the invitation to treat. An invitation to treat is part of the preliminaries of negotiation, whereas an offer is legally binding once accepted, subject to compliance with the terms of the offer. For example: Invitations to treat are advertisements, price lists, circulars and catalogues. | b. Acceptance Only what is offered can be accepted. This means that the offer must be accepted exactly as offered without...
