The LGA 1156 connector
LGA 1156, also known as Socket H or H1, is an Intel desktop CPU socket. LGA stands for land grid array. Its incompatible successor is LGA 1155. The 1156 is the number of pins in the socket, its designed to take the 1156 pin processor.

What processors is it used with?
Intel Celeron, Pentium, Core i3, i5, i7, and Xeon
What is its purpose on the motherboard?
LGA 1156 socket allows the following connections to be made from the processor to the rest of the system. * PCI-Express 2.0 ×16 for communication with a graphics card * DMI for communication with the Platform Controller Hub (PCH). This consists of a PCI-Express 2.0 ×4 connection * FDI for communication with the PCH, this consists of two display connections * Two memory channels for communication with DDR3 SDRAM
Basically the LGA 1156 socket connects the processor with the motherboard.
Intel H55 chipset
The Chipset shows what the motherboard can possible do or not. Every computer have a Northbridge chipset. It’s main purpose is to make the link between the processor and the rest of the computer (graphic card, USB ports, hard drive, etc.) but the utility of a Northbridge vary from chipset to chipset, some will act also as a graphic card and on others chipsets, they may also manage the memory.

What processors is it used with?
It’s the old LGA 1156 socket processors i3/i5/i7 and Xeon
What is its purpose on the motherboard?
The Intel H55 Express Chipset continues to push innovation with a new architecture designed to deliver quality, performance, and industry-leading I/O technologies on platforms powered by the Intel Core i7-800, Intel Core i5, and Intel Core i3 processors.
The Intel H55 Express Chipset delivers new technologies and innovative capabilities for digital home, small office, and home office consumers.
What is Gigabyte GA-H55M-UD2H motherboard?

The inexpensive Gigabyte GA-H55M-UD2H may become a good foundation for a home theater, modern games, or just a simple home PC. This motherboard uses the new integrated chipset for the Intel CPU’s with build-in graphics, rich in video output features but lacking support for USB 3.0. The picture shows the motherboard. It is a Micro-ATX sized logic board for a desktop or tower computer. It uses the Intel H55 chipset and LGA1156 CPU socket for Intel Core i7/ Core i5/ Core i3 LGA 1156 Processors.

Locate information on the AMD770 Northbridge Chipset

The AMD 700 chipset series (also called as AMD 7-Series Chipsets) is a set of chipsets designed by ATI for AMD Phenom processors to be sold under the AMD brand. Several members were launched in the end of 2007 and the first half of 2008, others launched throughout the rest of 2008.
What processors is it used with? It is used for the following processors: AMD Athlon64, 64-FX, 64- X2, Athlon II, II-x2, x3, x4, Athlon x2, FX-series, Opteron 3200 series, 3300 series, Phenom II x2, x3, x4, Phenom x3, Phenom II x6, Phenom x3, x4, Opteron, Sempron x2.
What is its purpose on the motherboard? A chipset is a set of electronic components in an integrated circuit (IC) that manage the data flow between the processor, memory and peripherals. Usually is in the motherboard, and they are designed to work with a specific family of processors. It controls the communications between the processor and the external devices.
Locate information on the AMD SB 710 Southbridge chipset. The Southbridge is a chip that connects the Northbridge to other components inside the computer, including hard drives, network connections, USB, and Firewire devices, the system clock, and standard PCI cards. The Southbridge sends and receives data from the CPU through the Northbridge chip, which is connected directly to the computer's processor.
AMD 780E | SB710 Chipset
A high-performance embedded platform solution that packs Hyper-Transport 3.0 Technology, 1 PCI Express Generation 2, DirectX 10 and high definition hardware video decode into a solution targeted at high end embedded client applications.
Features and Benefits
■For use with Embedded AMD Athlon single and dual-core processors from 8W to 35W
■Designed to also be compatible with quad-core AMD Phenom processors.
■Up to 128MB DDR3 dedicated frame buffer (sideport memory) for optimizations in power savings and video decoding.
■Operating system support for Windows Vista, Windows XP and XPe and Linux.

Diagram of a motherboard, which supports many on-board peripheral functions as well as several expansion slots.
What is its purpose on the motherboard? Southbridge is a reference to a chipset on a PC motherboard. It is a group of microchips designed for a single function and manufactured as a single unit. This chipset controls or manages input and output (I/O). Examples of I/O interfaces connections controlled by Southbridge are USB, serial, IDE, and ISA. These are the slower capabilities of the motherboard. It is located on the Northbridge of the PCI bus and is not directly connected to the CPU, but connected to the CPU through the Northbridge.
The purpose of the motherboard for the AMD SB710 Southbridge chipset is to control the processes that are going on within the computer's main frame system.
What processors is it used with?
This manual is a register reference guide for the AMD’s SB700-series Southbridges, which integrate the key I/O, communications, and audio features required in a state-of-the-art PC into a single device. These products are specifically designed to operate with AMD’s Radeon family of integrated graphics processor products in both desktop and mobile PCs. Also AMD SB710 chipset is used with embedded AMD Athlon single and dual core processors and also compatible with quad core AMD Phenom processors.
Locate information on the Socket AM3 connector.
Socket AM3 is a CPU socket for AMD processors. AM3 was launched on February 9, 2009 as the successor to Socket AM2+, alongside the initial grouping of Phenom II processors designed for it. The sole principal change from AM2+ to AM3 is support for DDR3 SDRAM.

Socket AM3
What processors is it used with? The initial grouping of Phenom II processors.
