1. A physics researcher would want to have a 64-bit CPU rather than a 32-bit CPU for a few reasons. A 64-bit CPU can handle much more calculations per second and can therefore complete tasks faster. They also have multiple cores which increases processing power and makes the computer run faster. This would increase efficiency and mean the researcher could do their work faster and run complex software systems.
A 64-bit CPU also has more memory, it can have more than 4GB of memory compared to the 3GB - 4GB a 32-bit CPU has. This is important for downloading programs they need to use. It is also better for processing huge amounts of data at one time which is necessary for a researcher.

2. Distributed computing is a network of independent computers which communicate to achieve a goal. They do not share a memory or processors and communicate with pieces of information transferred over a network. Parallel computing uses multiple processers which each work on different things but share the same data. It was brought in to find a way around mechanical and physical restrictions on computer speed.

A Beowulf Cluster is a group of usually identical computers connected by a network in a small area that has the ability for processing to be shared because of installed programs and libraries.

4. SETI@home can use any computer that is plugged into their network to go through data when they are looking for extraterrestrial life. They get so much data from the satellites that they need to spread it across many computers and if you connect yours to their network when your computer is on they can use your CPU. They do this because they don’t have enough computers themselves.

5. Stardust@home uses distributed computing to look for tiny interstellar dust impacts in photos taken by the NASA Stardust mission. They get volunteers to look at the images not computers. It is distributed for people to search the images unlike most distributed

...Exercise One Nt1310 Week 1 In: Computers and Technology Exercise One Nt1310 Week 1 NT1310:Week 1 Telecommunications By: Kenneth Martin You are an IT Network Specialist and are required to develop the design of the company’s telephone system for its new building which will begin construction in a few months. In order to get a background which will help when developing the new system, your supervisor asked you to research the current Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) currently used by the company. You must research the system components and report back to your supervisor , the Telecommunications Manager, within a week. 1. Describe a local land line phone system based on the following Landline Telephone Components: a. Local Loop a local loop is the wired connection from a telephone company's central office in a locality to its customers' telephones at homes and businesses. This connection is usually on a pair of copper wires called twisted pair. The system was originally designed for voice transmission only using analog transmission technology on a single voice channel. Today, your computer's modem makes the conversion between analog signals and digital signals. With Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) or Digital Subscriber Line (DSL), the local loop can carry digital signals directly and at a much higher bandwidth than they do for voice only. b. Central Office In telephone communication in the United States, a central office (CO) is an office in a locality...

...Unit 7. Lab 1. New Building – Safety Plan NT1310 Vincent Mckey March 1, 2014 New Building Safety Plan No matter what type of job being done rather it’s building a house or cutting grass. A safety plan should be in place. However safety plans differ pertaining to the job. Example, a person performing a routine task such as washing a car wouldn’t face the same dangers as someone who has the job of an offshore welder. When installing cable in a new building, there is some necessary safety equipment and safety equipment I would implement. Some of the safety equipment would be boots or rubber sole shoes, long pants, gloves, and eyewear. Although installing cable in a new building is not as dangerous as building the building itself, some of the same safety equipment or PPE should be worn. Also, there should be rules in place to keep the employees safe. These are ten rules I would implement: 1. No horse playing 2. No running on site 3. Do not climb ladders without having someone on the ground holding it 4. Do not leave tools plugged into electrical sockets unattended 5. Only spill proof bottles in the work area 6. The use of alcohol and drugs are prohibited 7. No fighting 8. No sleeping 9. Clean spills immediately according to the MSDS 10. Always wear PPE In case of a disaster, follow the buildings exit plan. Do not run. Walk swiftly toward the exit keeping your head on a swivel. A designated meeting place will be designed and all team members...

Nt1310 Unit 10 Lab 1 Essay

...NT1310 Codi Roebuck Unit 10 Lab 1 01/04/2016 Professor: Ronald j. wojcik Fiber optics for diagnostics and troubleshooting are used in varying capacities to test, measure, analyze, transmit, distribute, and/or simulate an optical signal with which the technician can perform procedures and processes associated with maintenance, problem solving, and calibration of equipment and/or networks. Normally in these applications, fiber optic products are used to create loop tests or transmit signals from point-to-point (either single-point to single-point, or single-point to multiple-points). For loop testing, commonly referred to as loopback testing, a signal is sent from a piece of equipment through a loopback or cable and returned to the source, simulating a complete network connection. This type of test allows technicians to perform function tests and internal diagnostic processes without the equipment being physically tied to an active network. This type of setup provides technicians with the advantage of easily isolating individual components for faster, more comprehensive analysis. With signal transmission applications, technicians generally use cables (multiple types for different applications) to connect one or more pieces of...

...NT1310 Unit 1. Lab 1. Data on Fixed Line vs. Cellular Debate. Pros & Cons of Fixed vs. Cellular: Pros: Cost:  Most wired line phone companies charge more than what you'd pay for most alternatives, and some are taxed more as well. There are some locations where getting new wired phone service is prohibitively expensive or even impossible. Long Distance and extra features like Call Waiting are normally included with alternative phones. More Features:  Cellular and broadband phones normally include Long Distance, Voice Mail, Caller ID, Call Forwarding and more, usually at no additional charge. They also have Text Messaging and various forms of data service which are unavailable with a landline. Portability:  If you move your home more than average (or if it's on wheels), your phone and your number can stay with you. There are no "installation" charges. Temporary Usage:  You can have phone service for the season in a vacation home or cabin, or on an extended stay at a hotel or home of a friend or relative without installing a separate line. Internet Access: Your wireless phone can also be your connection to the Internet, either with an internal browser or tethered to your computer, and available wherever there is cellular coverage. Wireless broadband is also available separate from your cellular account. Wi-Fi for Multiple Devices: You can get a cellular modem that provides a wi-fi signal that can connect to up to 5 separate wi-fi devices. ...
