To what extent has the Obama administration departed from traditional Democratic values and policies?

The 2015 state of the union address, Barack Obama had stated ‘after a breakthrough year for America, our economy is growing and creating jobs…shrinking deficits…things like childcare and sick leave and equal pay; things like lower mortgage premieres and a higher minimum wage- these ideas will make a meaningful difference in the lives of millions of families. Like any Democratic President, Barack Obama had commented on traditional aspects of the Democratic Party, however there are parts of Obamas administration that has departed from some traditional Democratic values and policies. These will be explained further.
Firstly, signs that Obama has not departed from key traditional Democrat values and policies is Obamas intervention in the economy to promote growth. In the recent state of the union address, Obama had mentioned the economy and its growth several times, which portrayed how important the president had found this issue; sounding finally like the president that his liberal supporters want him to be. Traditionally, the Democrats believe in building a stronger economy by raising the minimum wage, giving equal pay for equal work, and reforming student loan debt. This is highlighted by Obama, with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, most commonly referred to as the ‘stimulus bill’. The bill was a direct response to the economic crisis and at the urging of Obama. The act was signed into law, with three immediate goals; to create new jobs and save existing ones, to spur economic activity and invest in long term growth, and finally to foster unprecedented levels of accountability and transparency in government spending.
Secondly, evidence of Obamas administration sticking to traditional Democratic values and policies if through the protection of

...US trade policies with China are aimed at continuing good relations and address its economic problems whereas these policies have caused a huge trade deficit with its second largest trading partner (China) in the past twenty one years. There was no proper road map for either of these countries to make suitable changes in their economic policies. Administrative Concerns: US administration has failed to lay down its economic concerns and emphasize a concrete action plan to protect businesses in their country. Clinton and Bush administrations followed a cautious approach with China realising the importance of its vital trade partner in accomplishing successful economic changes. Barack Obama’s policies: Barack Obama re-established the Strategic Economic Dialogue (SED) and resurrected the Joint committee on Commerce and Trade (JCCT) aimed at resolving a wide range of economic issues. Obama’s administration is likely to make necessary amendments in trade policies with China in the best interests of the country, which can strengthen its position in 2012 elections. US China Interdependency: Firstly US view China as a major market for its exports and needs cheap labour for its multinational global chains. Also requires China’s credit to brook its deficit in trade whereas China needs US for its exports and investments across various industries. Violation of Policies by China: Some of the Chinese policies that curb the sustainable and balanced growth of US are: * Improper incorporation...

Nsa Surveillance Under Obama Administration

...surveillance in the US and the UK intensified on Sunday. In Washington, some US senators demanded more transparency from the Obama administration. Libertarian Republican Rand Paul said he wanted to mount a supreme court challenge. The British foreign secretary, William Hague, announced he would make a statement to parliament on Monday after the Guardian revealed that UK intelligence agencies used the US Prism system to generate intelligence reports. Hague said it was "fanciful" and "nonsense" to suggest that the British monitoring service, GCHQ, would work with an agency in another country to circumvent restrictions on surveillance in the UK. Advertisement The issue dominated the Sunday talk shows on both sides of the Atlantic. On CNN, senator Mark Udall, one of the prominent Senate critics of US government surveillance, called for amendments to the Patriot Act, the controversial law brought in after the 9/11 attacks, to rein in the NSA's powers. "I'm calling for reopening the Patriot Act," Udall said. "The fact that every call I make to my friends or family is noted, the length, the date, that concerns me." Udall, who has been privy to classified briefings about NSA data collection programs, said it was unclear to him that the surveillance initiatives had disrupted terrorist plots, as the administration has claimed. He called on Obama's administration to make more information about the programs...

...GROUP 1 CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION Accountancy is one of the most in demand courses in the country, but also the most difficult for the students who are enrolled to this program. Many students end up shifting to other courses because they cannot withstand the demands of accountancy. Although it requires only basic mathematical operations, what makes it difficult is the use of analytical and logical thinking. The Bachelor of Science in Accountancy program is composed of subjects in accounting, audit, administration, business laws and taxation. Its primary focus is not limited to business subjects only, but to other fields as well, such as banking and finance, government, social services, education, and more. The BSA program is taught in a variety of teaching methods examples are case analysis, individual and group reports, simulations, classroom discussions and guest lecturers. It also includes extensive exposures to business immersions and an on-the-job training that will provide you with the understanding of practical accountancy. This program is highly recommended especially for those people who are in business. Whether they work for a company or try to put up a business, accounting is still there. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND The roots of the University of the East can be traced back to two rented rooms on Dasmarinas Street, Manila, where 110 students enrolled in Certified Public Accountant (CPA) review classes in September 1946; barely two months after the Philippines...

However, implementing the idea is going to be difficult. The article has a lot of negative and positive information about the companies. It seems as though the only bonuses that were pinched were the bankers and traders. Nevertheless, CEO’s bonuses will not be pinched, as they are very influential, in terms of the board and management as a whole. According to the article, I would personally say that CEO, James Dimon is stealing from the company. The management seems to be avoiding the fact by actually concentrating on how their revenues and stock price changed. This is the ethic agency problem that most companies face. CEOs steal from the companies they work for and get away with it. The management does not maintain uprightness, as they actually protect the CEOs. I hope the idea pulls through as it will make scandals committed by CEOs a thing of the past. I think the CEOs should not be given a lot of power whereby they consult the shareholders on how bonuses are to be given amongst board members. It is rather hard for shareholders to know what happens in the company. Although the managers are supposed to be protecting the interests of the shareholders, they seem to let the CEO do all the major decision-making. It is only human nature; people tend to abuse power. ...selected to improve morale at Wheeling Hospital. Arguments will be evaluated and revised resulting in a refined and final solution to the problem. Original Issue Wheeling Hospital is adding a fifth tower and the time for departments to move into the new, advanced tower is approaching quickly. Chief executive officer Ron Violi thinks the transition is an exciting time for him and his staff members. It was a major shock to Violi when he learned more than three quarters of his staff was unhappy and not excited for the move into the new tower. Through close observation of my fellow coworkers, I discovered the discontent and feelings of frustration. These feelings originated because of the lack of communication from administration relating to tower five. Staff members are unaware their expectations, their workload, or how they are supposed to function without knowledge of where equipment, departments, and items necessary to perform their duties are located. Staff members have concerns about shortages and are not notified of any changes or updates relating to the new tower. The morale at the hospital is low and staff members need motivation to have success in tower five. Initial Solutions With the importance of the success of tower five to the community, coworkers, and my career on my mind, I dove into my imagination and brainstormed for solutions. Initial solutions included: ▪...

Project Managment

...How does multitasking confuse the resource availability of project team personnel? Multitasking confuses resource availability for project team personnel because the resource availability must be divvied up over many different tasks involving functional duties, as well as project duties. It is usually not possible to say that Team Member A is allotted for x amount of time on this project from Point A to Point B. The x amount of time may go from Point A on a specific project over to Point D on a functional task and then back over to Point A on the specific project. The Team Member may be able to complete the tasks up to Point B, but then is pulled away to work on a task on another project at the beginning of that one. In this way, multitasking does not allow for a continuous and unbroken specified time period to work exclusively on one project or its attendant tasks and this needs to be taken into consideration when scheduling a project’s baseline calendar. “In modern organizations, it is impossible to eliminate multitasking for the average employee.” Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Why? As of the date that I write this, I agree with the above-statement mainly because businesses have found that it is profitable to have employees multitask (Isidore, 2010, para. 13). Employees are afraid of losing their jobs so they tolerate being overworked, which is another term for multitasking. Additionally, as an Executive Administrative Assistant, one of my...

Personal Statement

...successful business. As a studious and considered individual I took on three A- Levels in Mathematics, Business Studies and Economics, all of which I chose to support my goal of studying for a degree in Business Administration. Mathematics gives me skills that can help in a really crucial part of a business such as decision making, logical thinking, and being able to know the risk and the probability of a certain choice or outcome. Economics gives me an insight into how government affects business, how external factors such as demand and supply shifts change a market. It interested me to have the chance to research into many real life cases, such as how Virgin Atlantic competed with British Airways, a battle of a former state funded flag carrier against the brash outsider, an archetypal example of how the business world was changing in the late 20th century." My interest in life comes from setting myself huge, apparently unachievable challenges and trying to rise above them. From the perspective of wanting to live life to the full, I felt that I had to attempt it." said Richard Branson, the owner of Virgin. He risked investing in something no one would ever have thought of, an airline, but a better looking and modern trendy one. That is what successful Business Administration is about, taking on challenges, being...

Communication Within a Virtual Workplace

...Working Together from Afar A Study on the Effectiveness of the Communication Strategies and Flow used in a Virtual Office By Patricia Camille C. Duremdes Submitted December 13, 2014 to Dr. Rosario M. Baria Abstract Communication is important in any group that has a common goal (Simon, 1976). It is a requirement in a situation where people with different tasks have to coordinate to work as one. While achieving effective communication is relatively easy in a traditional organization, organizations that exist in cyberspace have to find alternative ways to communicate effectively due to the limitations caused by the long distances between the members. This study was conducted to find out whether or not the communication within a virtual writing service of 14 workers is effective. The study used both qualitative and quantitative methods in gathering information. Information about the virtual office’s communication strategies and flow were obtained through first-hand observation, while the effectiveness of communication was determined through questionnaire results. The results indicated that the communication strategies and flow used in the office were effective, as a vast majority of the respondents had positive views on the communication within their office.
