Objective personality inventories are based on “self-report and have very specific rules for administration and scoring” (Aiken & Groth-Marnat, 2006, p. 395). However, projective techniques require “diversity in interpreting” the results (Aiken & Groth-Marnat, 2006, p. 421). Therefore, I believe objective personality inventories are generally more effective because the results are set and based the same for everyone, instead of being left for broad interpretations by those scoring the tests. I understand that as humans we are not cookie cutter copies of each other and that projective techniques can give a deeper understanding of a client, however, I feel objective inventories give a jumping point when it comes to understanding personalities.
