Baddeley and Hitch’s working memory model suggest that short term memory isn’t a single system but rather an alliance of several temporary memory systems working together. The components of the working memory are, the central executive, phonological loop, visuo-spatial sketch pad (VSS) and the episodic buffer. Each part plays a vital role.
In order for the WMM to work there must be some input which enters your sensory memory. The capacity is very large. The duration for sensory memory is very short up to 2 seconds. If the information receives no attention it gets lost through decay. However if I does get attention it goes into the central executive. The central executive is the key component of the working memory. Its function is to direct attention to particular tasks determining which of the slave systems should be allocated with a certain task. The capacity of the central executive is very limited therefore can’t attend to many things at once. After information enters the central executive depending on what the information is it would enter one of the three slave systems.
One slave system is the phonological loop. Which is further subdivided into the articulatory process which is the inner voice and phonological store which is the inner ear. The phonological loop too has a limited capacity. It deals with auditory information and preserves the order of information. The phonological store holds words we hear like an inner ear. The articulatory process is used for words that are heard or seen. These words are silently repeated like an inner voice. This is a form of maintenance rehearsal.
The second slave system is the visuo-spatial sketchpad. This is used when you have to plan a spatial task like getting from one room to another. Visual and spatial information is temporarily stored here. Visual information is what things look like. Spatial information is the relationship between things. It has been suggested that the visuo-spatial sketchpad can be divided into visual cache and inner scribe which deals with spatial relations.
The third and final slave system is the episodic buffer. The buffer was added by Baddeley in 2000 because he had realised the model needed a general store. The phonological loop and visuo-spatial sketchpad deal with processing and temporary storage of specific kind of information. The central executive has no storage capacity so there is nowhere to hold information that relates to both visual and acoustic information. The episodic buffer much like all of the working memory units has limited capacity. Its job is to integrate information from the central executive, the phonological loop, the visual-spatial sketchpad and also from the long term memory.

Some of the key evidence for the working memory model come from case studies of individuals who have suffered serious brain damage. There are a number of problems with using this. Firstly it doesn’t let the researches make a before and after observation to see if their findings are caused because that’s what everyone is like or it is because of the brain damage. Secondly brain damage is traumatic so it may change behaviour itself. Thirdly you cannot generalise this with the entire population because not everybody is brain damaged.
Supportive evidence comes from Paulesu who found out when participant who were required to store a series of letter or sounds of the letters. He found out that when asked to do different things two different parts of the brain were active. This supports the working memory because it explains that there must be two different stores. Therefore the phonological loop is made from two components. A part that deals with sound and another with visual, so one which is capacity pf the mental rehearsal item.
Research into the phonological loop has suggested that it plays an important role in learning to speak and read as well as understanding spoken language.
One main weakness of the working memory model is the researcher Baddeley himself has pointed out that they still don’t have detailed understanding of the way in which working memory actually works.

...When I came in the house, Julia obviously had no idea what had happened or even noticed my terrible hair and tired eyes. She instead surprised me with news that I will be a star of one of her TV show. Soon, I called my mom up and invited her to come watch me; that cheered me up. It was really nice to she her; I haven’t seen my mom in a long time. This is when I felt my life was almost perfect; with my mom, Julia, and being the star of the show. Maybe Sim did the right thing bringing me along. Afterwards, Sim invited me to go to a basketball game that he played in; I do go, not expecting much, but when the game is finished I am on my feet impressed and proud of Sim. He gets a really cute smile when I told him how impressed I was. He then tells me he is sorry for taking me along, and for hurting me. I explain to him, “Sim, maybe it was the right thing that you took me along in the long run.” Another bright smile comes to his face. Just then a college coach...

This approach would also only be able to deliver 1 shipment per time, which wouldn’t be ideal if we were behind schedule or if a problem comes up, and if something happens to the truck then we would lose all 3 of our shipments. Amalgamated Integrated Services offers a cross-docking service, which would allow Spartan Plastics to ship our products earlier lowering our storage costs. AIS would also provide us with a more “safe” transportation approach by diving each of our shipments into a different truck, therefore if something unforeseen happens to one of the trucks or the shipment Spartan Plastics can still be sure that the other 2 shippings are on...

Truth

...Systematic Theology II February 10, 2003 The True Church I. Introduction II. Origin of the Word Church III. The Bride IV. A Structure V. The Branch VI. A Body VII. Other names VIII. Saints and royal priesthood IX. In Him X. Conclusion Introduction Oh, hallelujah! I am a woman inside a man’s body. I can’t wait for the day that the real me comes out. I know who my husband is and I’m ready to sit down at my honeymoon feast and stare into his eyes. Oh, how glorious the day when the real me is set free. My husband is coming in on a white horse. He is my knight in shining armor. He is going to take me away to paradise. If this sounds sickening to you, it should. The sad part about it is, this is the exact type of message that gets people to shout down a man behind a pulpit. I don’t know if they do it out of ignorance or if they do it just to get a good offering. Either way it is very unbiblical to teach such falseness. The Bible says to study to show ones self approved of God, a work man that needeth not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. Anyone who studies should know who and what the true church is. Hopefully by the end of this paper, I’ll be able to give you a glimpse of that truth. The Scriptures and background is beyond the scope of a paper. Origin of the Word Church It is not the scope of this paper to go into all the history and language study of the church. It is important, though, to have a foundation that can be built upon. I encourage one...

The Champion

...omnipotent creator of man’s first breath Who will decide, who forever will be….. The audience for the fight of the ages was assembled and in place. The angels came in splendor from a star. The saints that had gone before were there, Jeremiah, Enoch, Job. They were singing the song of Zion on David’s harp. The demons arived, offensive and vile, cursing and blaspheming God Followed by their trophies dead and gone. Hitler, Napoleon, Pharoh, Capone, tormented, vexed, and grieved And waiting for their judgment from the throne. Then a chill swept through the mammoth crowd And the demons squealed with glee As a sorid, vulgar, repulsive essence was felt. Arrogantly prancing, hands held high, draped in a sparkling shroud, Trolled by demons, Satan ascended from Hell. Then Satan cringed, the sinners groaned, the demons reeled in pain As as swell of power like silent thunder rolled. With a surge of light beyond intense illuminating the universe, In resplendent glory appeared the Son of God. Then a persona, yes, extraordinaire appeared in center ring. God the Father will oversee the duel. Opening the Book of Life, each grand stand hushed in awe As majestically he said, “Now, here’s the rules: He’ll be wounded for their transgressions, bruised for iniquities.” When he said, “By His stripes they’re healed,” the devil shook. He said, “Sickness is my specialty – I hate that healing junk.” God said, “You shut your face – I wrote the book.” Then the Father...

An Atheist in Hell Chapter 1: Planning Suicide When evil persons have gone in a life of sin, and find that they have reason to fear the just judgment of God, they begin at first to wish there were no God to punish them. Then little by little they persuade themselves that there is no God, and look for arguments to back their opinion. I had the unhappiness to know someone like this, who would always be telling me there was neither God nor devil, and no heaven or hell. It was with fear and trembling that I first heard him speak about these topics, but he spoke of them so often that I felt I must consider what he said. From this time I found my mind so confused that I could not remember the truths about God which had appeared so clear to me before. I could not think there was no God but with the greatest horror, yet I questioned the truth of His being. I would not have parted with my hope of heaven for all the riches of the world, yet now I was not sure whether there was any such place. In my confusion I went to my false friend to see what comfort he could give me. He only laughed at my fears and pretended to pity my weakness. His talks only made me more confused, until life became a burden to me. It is impossible to tell you the...

...reality: we see ourselves and think, "wow, I have a face that only a mother could love!" Either way, we all face questions like, "Why did God make me like this? Who am I? Does my life really matter? What do others think of the way I look and act? The problem is that we try and answer these questions from Hollywood's perspective- you know- Tinsel town? In Tinsel town everyone is beautiful and life is oh so much better than mine. Hollywood has created a monster called the "world mirror"... run for your lives! As a result, most teenagers suffer from what some call a poor self-image. They don't like the way they look. They think that they are being continually watched and criticized by others. After time and enough glances in the "world mirror" the poison of self-doubt, frustration, and discouragement creeps into their thinking. The real question, though, is not what we see when we look at our reflection in the "world mirror" Rather the true issue is what God sees when He looks at us - and that is a whole different story! The Bible tells us several truths about what He sees when He looks at us, because He is using the God Mirror so let's take a look First of all, He sees us as specially created and uniquely made individuals. David put it this way in Psalm 139:13,14: "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;" Just like David, you have been personally designed by God as a customized...

After stealing from stores all across Missouri, he breaks down and his speaking goes from eloquent to anacoluthic; “‘What about Dad? I feel--oh, Jesus, he’s such a good old guy. And my mother--well, you saw her. What about them? Me, I’ll be off in Mexico…’” (Capote 99). Multiple times throughout this segment, Dick’s sentence structure breaks down, as demarcated by dashes. Showing that Dick cares about something, anything at all, is proof that he is not a heartless criminal. He cares about his family as any good citizen might. Like any good citizen, he has strengths just as he has flaws. However, Dick is not isolated in his dynamic representation....

Her name was Agitha Miller Gansberg. They had a son, Alan, and a daughter, Judith Gansberg. He also had a brother, Murray, and a sister, Eudice Stadlen and two granddaughters. While neighbors may have ignored her cried for help, the article focused national attention on neighborhoods indifference. By doing so Mr. Gansberg’s article told about something that became symbolical in what many people recognized as the beginning of a culture full of violence and apathy in the United States. This case became so important that social scientists still debate the causes of what is now known as “The Genovese Syndrome”. In the short story “Thirty Eight Who Saw Murder Didn’t Call the Police” written by Martin Gansberg published on March 27, 1964, describes a true story that took place in Queens New York on March 14, 1964. Well, writing contests can be a great way to share writing, and, like many others at Saint Joseph High, perhaps something can be won. See, at St. Joe last year, we broke a record. Not surprising, right? The number of student-won Scholastic Writing Awards was at an all-time high. With a total of 73 individual awards and 4 senior portfolio awards--38 Honorable Mentions, 33 Silver Keys, and 4 Gold Keys--St. Joe has surpassed itself yet again. “Last year, I know that we could not fit the names [of the Scholastic award winners] on one poster, and previously we had been able to do that.” said Mrs. Bean Klusendorf, the teacher of two College Writing classes and both of the Honors English 9 classes, “So yes, I’m quite certain that we had the most that we’ve ever had at St. Joe.”...
