... On the 23rd of October 2013, I was set to analyse some soil samples. I decided to take my samples from Avenham park in Preston, Lancashire. A soil pit was dug and some samples were taken, those samples were later taken to the laboratory and passed through series of test. Measuring of moisture content, PH level, and the percentage organic mater content were the major carried out on the samples. The main purpose for analysing the soil samples is to identify the processes that takes place within the soil at a particular location and to identify the other factors affecting these processes and lastly to make classifications based on the field observation and results obtained from the laboratory. Although its impact is negligible, it reflects the nervous attitude of the time. Richard Preston writes narrative nonfiction. Narrative nonfiction is a hybrid style of writing that utilizes the framework of nonfiction with aspects of a novel, dialogue, for instance. Preston favors this style and wrote his dissertation on it during his graduate studies in Princeton. Previously, Preston wrote non-fiction on science such as Astronomy and on History; later his focus shifts to the science of Microbiology. Some examples are given as to the events held at the festival such as the Napoleon look-alike contest, or the tater tot eating contest. Many of these contests and activities help people bring out their so called, “inner Napoleon” (Holson 162). Holson is able to illustrate the impact the Napoleon Dynamite festival had on the town and the people of Preston, while organizing the piece effectively. One point that is addressed by Holson is how the town is affected by the Napoleon Dynamite festival. The title addresses this point when she says the “rural Idaho town” (Holson 161). After her short story about the festival, Holson immediately jumps into how the town is effected. Holson states that “more than 300 people traveled from as far away as California and Connecticut for the chance to embrace their own inner Napoleon” (Holson 162). In Buddhism, the gesture is a symbol of the fearlessness—and thus the spiritual power—of the Buddha or bodhisattva who makes it. Furthermore, the paper provid-es a thorough analysis of American Psycho, focussing on narrative technique and the detailed setting described in the novel. The novels main protagonist, Patrick Bateman, symbolizes the postmodern narcissist in many ways, and even though it’s a work of fiction, the novel provides a comprehensive picture of the yuppie-environment in the 80’s. At last, the paper discusses whether or not the theme of the novel is still present in modern-day society and whether or not the narcissistic tendencies are a subject of concern. By comparing the novel to the theories of Christopher Lasch, Lars Lundmann Jensen and more, as well as empirical data, the paper concludes that narcissism in postmodern society is very much present.
