Outcome Evaluation
Omaha Street School measures several different outcomes for each student including measurements of knowledge, behavior, and attitude. Currently, the program measures knowledge by tracking grades, GPA, and standardized assessment scores for English and math. Additionally, the program measures behaviors by tracking attendance. Finally, the program measures attitude by assessing each student’s level of hope. The program is satisfied with the current measurement practices of knowledge and behavior, but would like to improve the attitude measurement practices.
Omaha Street School utilizes a time-series research design to measure knowledge. Grades are tracked quarterly throughout the year, for every year in the program, and are a direct result of the assignments and tests completed. GPA is determined …show more content…
This assessment tool was developed by Charles Richard Snyder, and then published by Oxford University Press in 1997 (Snyder et al., 1997). The Children’s Hope Scale was derived from the more extensive Adult Hope Scale by the same author. According to Snyder et al., this assessment tool was constructed to measure goal-directed hope in children and adolescents; therefore, it was written in a 6th grade reading level with far fewer questions than it’s parent assessment (1997). The Children’s Hope Scale is composed of six questions in Likert scale form measuring at the ordinal level. Each question allows for six responses including, “none of the time”, “a little of the time”, “some of the time”, “a lot of the time”, “most of the time”, and “all of the time” (see Appendix B for example of the Children’s Hope Scale). The scores for the responses range from one point, for “none of the time”, to six points, for “all of the time”. Higher scores indicate a higher level of hope, with thirty-six being the highest score
