Course Registration System

...Course Registration System the online registrar version 0.1 Specifications Document by Emma Boroson Introduction This Course Registration System is a web-based program aimed to make easier and more convenient the class registration process, a hassle through which students go every semester. As it stands, here at Brown University, in order to officially register for classes, each student must fill out a course registration form manually, bring it to the Registrar’s Office at University Hall, stand in line (often for upwards of twenty to thirty minutes), and finally have the form officially approved and stamped. In order to change anything about one’s current schedule, such as dropping or adding a class, changing grade option, or showing official permission from a professor, the student must go through the same tedious process. Course Registration System (CRS) attempts to alleviate these hassles by providing several services to students through the internet. CRS provides a way to search for classes without having to open a course catalog, a way to “shop” around and view various possible schedules, and finally, officially register for the chosen classes. All this can be done in the privacy of the students’ own rooms and without the stress and time it takes to stand in line in University Hall. Registering for Classes

...classes would be quick and simple. Unfortunately, there are several obstacles that interfere with the registration process. The past two times I have registered for classes, I have encountered such obstacles and have not been able to get every class at the time I wanted. The main reasons were: 1) I am a freshman; 2) I am not an athlete; and 3) By the time I am able to register for classes, many of the classes I planned on taking are either closed or full. Staying on top of the registration process by planning ahead will help reduce some of the stress. First, students should figure out the registration date to sign up for classes at Northwood University. This date is assigned by the Academic Advisors in the Church Building. All students are assigned a specific time and date to register online via my.northwood.edu. Time assignments are given according to seniority with upper classman receiving an earlier registration opportunity. Student athletes and students in Northwood’s honor program also reap the benefit of an early registration. Since freshmen pick their classes last, by the time they are allowed to register, they face the challenge of finding the necessary classes to support their degree major. Registering for classes as soon as possible is very important. Students should make a point to plan ahead, organize, and save a course schedule on Web Advisor. Once the registration date arrives, students can...

Ethical Decision Reflection

...Ethical Decision Reflection HSM/230 Keyanna Rogers January 30, 2013 There have been many moments in my life that I can say that I am not proud of, but we learn from own mistakes. Nobody is perfect and we are going to keep making mistakes in life. We learn from our mistakes to make better choices in life. There was a moment in my life that I had to make a decision regarding my friend and my job. I worked at a retail store with a friend of mine; we went to high school together, and hung out from time to time. It was about 3 months into the job and she started to steal money from the register, and some merchandise from the store. This came back to both of us because we was responsible for closing and making sure our register had a certain amount plus the end of the day receipts was not adding up. So, I had to have a meeting with the store manager, and some corporate people of the company; because they were trying to fire me, and have me arrested. My job and work ethics was at stake, and the factor that I had to consider was how I am going to explain this to my landlord for not paying my rent. I had to make a decision to tell what really happened or take the fall for something I didn’t do. So, I told the truth my friend was fired and they didn’t press charges because she admitted to the crimes. This was a hard decision to make, but at the time I just moved on my own with my son, and fiancé. The outcome was...

First Job

...occasionally hold a small conversation with them. This was easy for me because I am a nice person, I smile a lot, and I can talk to just about anybody. On my first day working for Kmart was pretty good, I came right on in and they assigned and girl name Morgan to help me learn how to work the register. She just moved out the way and came to my side to tell me what to do as I was doing a transaction. I am going to be honest I was scared because I didn’t know what I was doing, but then again it was just my first day. After a couple of transactions I started to get the hang of checking people out and it wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be, then again I was just pushing a couple of buttons. During the slow times while we didn’t have any customers I talked with the other cashiers and got to know them. All of them seem to be pretty cool and we all got along very easily. About an hour went by then it was time for me to leave, but another girl came in, her name was Shanikka. I just worked with her then until it was time for me to go home. A few more hours went by, then she left me on the register by myself to go fold clothes. I didn’t want her to leave because I did not want to be alone on the register by myself. She came back and ask me if I had any problems with anything; I didn’t have any problems at all. Honestly, I think I did pretty well for my first day. In conclusion, you shouldn’t be scared for your...

Descriptive Essay

...Do you remember your first time going shopping by yourself? Well I remember my first time going shopping by myself. The feeling was good I felt like a man when my dad give me some money and said do you think you’re ready to go shopping by yourself. My dad give about $300 to go shopping with so I said yes and headed to the mall. I was thinking about a lot as I was walking to the mall like what’s the first thing I’m going to buy with all this money. I was about 14 or 15 years old at the time that’s a lot of money for someone my age. My first steps inside of the mall was felt with joy. I didn’t have to check with nobody on what I wanted if I wanted something I could just buy it. I still thought about what my dad would say about the price of pants, shoes, and shirts and shopped smart. Shopping smart is when you get what you want on sale or more for less. So the first store I when into was H&M I walked around and saw some black pants I checked the price. The price of the black pants was $49.99 I thought about what my dad would say so I put them back. Once I put the pants back I was looking around the store for a better deal so I when to the sale section of the store and found the same black pants for 50% off . By me looking around and not buying the first thing I saw I saved some money. I ended up buying some black pants and some white T shirts out of H&M it only cost me around $40.00. The Courage of Jennifer Wright

...Jennifer went out of her way putting herself in the line of danger to help. Jennifer and my Sandy (My wife) were coworkers at a convenience store. In December right before Christmas a gentleman came into the store and proceeded to rob it. The gentlemen was acting weird when asking if he could use the restroom, so Sandy decided to call 911 because the robber was acting suspicious and was wearing a big hoddie. It was December and cold so that was not so much out of place. When the gentleman came out of the restroom he wanted a pack of cigarettes and Jennifer was up at the register at the time because sandy was on phone with 911. But the guy pulled out the knife and demanded money. When Jennifer told him that Sandy was the cashier he came running at her with the knife. He chased her into the back room and demanded money; she told him that if he wanted the money then they would have to go back out to the cash register. Jennifer had made it out of the store almost out of the parking lot when she looked back and saw that Sandy was faced with a knife at her throat. Jennifer noticed that Sandy could not get away from the robber so she came back inside and attacked the robber. The police arrived in time to take over the struggle and arrest the guy. This event demonstrated a lot of courage because Jennifer did not even think about her own safety and what could happen if things did not work out. She came back into the store when she was already safely out and fought off the robber until...

Restaurant Observation Essay

...name of the restaurant on it, but not appropriate in the fact that it’s too high and the first time I went there I didn’t even know where I was going. The signage was also very hazy. Dining area was also bad. Upon entrance of the restaurant, I noticed that the garbage was overflowing. The floor of the established was dirty. The area where their “condiments” are stores was disgustingly un-kept. It was a four-tray temperature storage unit. It contained vegetables, green and red salsa and some more. Contents from each tray were cross contaminating the other trays because in order to get the desired condiment you have to reach under an awkward sneeze guard. Kitchen staff and area. I walked to the register to make my order and where the men using the cash register with his bare hands took my card and swiped it through the machine. Immediately after that, he went to the refrigerator and with his shiny hands began to stretch and pull out something. Many things here made me quite nauseous. The fact that he had...

Geographical Indication in India

...Introduction to Geographical Indications "Geographical indications are…indications, which identify a good as originating in the territory…or a region or locality in a territory, where a given quality, reputation or other characteristic of the good is essentially attributable to its geographical origin."  It can also be defined as a sign used on goods that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that is due to that place of origin. Most commonly, a geographical indication consists of the name of the place of origin of the goods. For example, "Champagne," "Cognac," and "Tuscany" are geographical indications designating the specific geographical origin from which they originate. Agricultural products typically have qualities that derive from their place of production and are influenced by specific local factors, such as climate and soil. Under the TRIPS Agreement, countries are under no obligation to extend protection to a particular geographical indication unless that geographical indication is protected in the country of its origin. Prior to 2003, India did not protect geographical indications of Indian origin. In order to comply with India's obligations in the TRIPS Agreement, it enacted the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration & Protection) Act, 1999, which came into force with effect from 15th September 2003.
