Lt. Gail Halvorsen led an operation that boosted the hearts of the residents of West Berlin. He dropped Candy, chocolate, and gum from airplanes to the kids and adults who had none. A trait that Lt. Halvorsen had was empathy for the poor residents in West Berlin. He showed this by started this whole operation to help the people. He also showed persistence by not giving up and working as hard as he could to make sure everyone had the candy who wanted it. When kids weren’t able to get a package from the sky, if they sent Lt. Halvorsen a letter, he would send them some treats. Even though he had other jobs to do in the military, he still worked on his Operation Little Vittles. Lt. Halvorsen’s commander really helped him when he approved the idea
