In the summer of 2012, I was a student at moraine valley community college. At that time I had very little work experience but I was looking for a job. I did not want to work at a fast food service restaurant because I worked at one before and did not enjoy my time there. I was looking for a job where I could utilize my customer service skills as well as gain experience in an office setting; so I started looking for jobs on campus. My friend told me about a job opening in the academic advising office, where he also worked, so I decided to apply there. A week after I applied, I received a phone call from the academic advising department. They said they had received my application and were interested in setting up a face to face interview. I really appreciated the fact that they notified me upon receiving my application and promptly set up a face to face interview. A lot of jobs that I applied for in the past took a few weeks to get back to me; so the fact that they got back to me so quickly is one of the things I really appreciated. During the interview, I felt that the interviewer was very professional and was not in a rush to end the interview. In my past experience, I had felt very rushed during the interview process. That is why during my interview with the academic advising department I felt very comfortable because the interviewer was taking her time and was not rushing me. Two days after the interview, I received a phone call from the interviewer saying that I had got the job.
On my first day I was a bit nervous because it was a new job and I was not familiar with the environment. However, my boss Debbie made the transition into this new job really easy for me. She showed very strong leadership qualities that I truly admired and so did my

Daniel “Bullying is the sexual harassment of 20 years ago; everybody knows about it, but nobody wants to admit it”. —Lewis Maltby (Russell, 2001) The purpose of this paper is to review the current research and literature about workplace bullying, to provide information about how organizations can learn to more quickly identify bullies and to suggest ways of dealing with these toxic people so that the corporate culture is not negatively impacted by their behavior. Overview To be successful, organizations must create an atmosphere that inspires both innovation and risk-taking. In an increasingly competitive global economy, such innovation is more important than ever before (Hamel, 2000). However, not only does workplace bullying stifle productivity and innovative practices, but bullies often target the organization’s most talented employees—those individuals who are generally the most threatening to bullies (McCord & Richardson, 2001). As a result, the creativity and productivity of the organization’s most talented human capital is often negatively affected by this type of behavior at work or, worse yet, good employees are driven out of the company altogether. Bullies are often hard to identify because they operate “under cover”—that is, on the surface they appear to be civil and cooperative, while they do ...
