Original or Cover?
A song can really represent someone's style, feeling, emotion, and overall personality. If you were asked whether you prefer a cover of a song or the original performance, you'd probably find yourself pondering for a moment. An original song is brand new, not copied from any other songs. It is a one of a kind creation. When you write a new song, you write about something that inspires you, is unique and something you personally care about. You might be wondering what a cover is. A cover is a redone version of an original song. Have you ever stopped and wondered which version is better?
Many people have done a cover of a song. Jasmine Thomson, a famous music artist, got famous because of the covers she did. Jasmine did a …show more content…
Regina made it sound like the song was upbeat, you could even hear the smile in her voice. But, Jasmine made the song sound more mournful and made it sound like she was downhearted. Both singers are very talented. They both have the same kind of soft and tender sound in their voice. They both made the song really emotional.
Both artists sang the same song, but Jasmine made it a little different, and made it her own. She added a different emotion to the song, than what Regina Spektor did. She sang it the way she thought would please herself and listeners. She gave the song her own little twist. But, she didn’t try to change too much.
Art is the expression of creative skill and imagination. A music artist uses music as their form to do this. You've probably heard the saying, Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but have you ever thought about what it means? What one person finds beautiful, may not be appealing to another. Choosing an original or a cover song as a favorite is an individual's decision based on their style, feeling, emotion, and overall personality. Next time you listen to a song, you might try finding out if like you the cover of it better than the

An Inconvenient Truth

...An Inconvenient Truth Al Gore really has a valid point in what he wants to share with the people. His visual aids and animations shows great insight into what he sees for the future. Our world is in big trouble; as he stresses the changes in the earth over the last thirty years. Gore is a great public speaker and really leaves people with something to think about when his presentation is over. He has been all over the world to share this presentation with others and really get people out there to realize what they are doing and how it is affecting the world around us. I enjoyed the animations that Gore used since it was one way to just talk about it, but to me it really hit home when he had visual aids. Explaining how if Greenland were to melt; how that would affect the rest of the world. I agree with everything that Gore has said and what really helps is the way that he presents his information and himself. It all fits together hand in hand. Gore was the nation’s Vice President for eight years. To me it would be expected, that he act and perform in the best possible way. If Gore was president I think the world would have been better off since he is an environmentalist and he can really influence our country to change our everyday lives so that Earth may live on for years to come. Personally I did not know that we are causing this much harm to our planet. Gore really opened my eyes to the subject because since watching this I have energy saver light bulbs in my home,...

...iconic Disney songs that surround many of the movies that defined animation for our generation. When my roommate asked me to join her to see a revue of Alan Menken music I was extremely hesitant. To be honest I had absolutely no idea who Alan Menken was. After minutes of her begging for me to join her I agreed and we set out of the concert. To my surprise, signs of all my favorite animated Disney movies surrounded me. Once the lights were dimmed and the music began, I came to the realization of who Alan Menken was, the composer of all the classic Disney songs! With every song that was sung, I was slowly transported back to my childhood. I could remember watching those Disney icons in the back on my mom’s mini van as we traveled for summer vacations. I truly enjoyed every second of this revue. It is absolutely crazy how a song can transport you somewhere else, and take your mind off of the hectic buzz of college. I must say my personal favorite was Part of Your World from The Little Mermaid. The girls voice was exactly what I had imagined it would sound like and it truly blew me away. People had told me that our music department was fabulous and after that performance I can surely testify to that. Every person who sang was phenomenal and perfectly displayed the animisms of the characters they were playing. This concert opened my mind up to attending more things that aren’t very well broadcasted! Needless to say after the concert I purchased a few more Alan Menken songs to listen to...

...and I have yet to come across racism in my almost twenty-one years of living. I am not sure if I would have survived back then because, I would have been too stubborn. One of the problems still today is all people getting together for what is right. It was more than showing the importance of people’s rights, it showed all people who came together for a common cause. I have always appreciated my right to vote and wish I could last semester, but after watching Selma, it has reached a new level. I should not miss another opportunity to vote because, this is what Blacks have fought for. Without their acts of courage and determination, who knows where our progress would be in society. Selma had won an Oscar, but it had only won for “Best Original Song”. It deserved more credit than that. Fifty years sounds like it was forever ago, but it really...

...Ben was startled by Justin sudden appearance, but he didn’t make a sound and Justin had no idea he was there.Ben looked at me from behind his fort, I looked back at him giving him a small nod. He nodded back in response, just by looking at one another, he sort of understood my whole plan. I could hear Chris and Ron, they must have moved a lot closer to our base we were all ready to spring our attack. “Shh, get ready Ron” I heard Chris whisper. “If you're gonna be a smartass, first you have to be smart. Otherwise well you're just an ….” I dribbled. Kevin had reached his boiling point, and now he was boiling mad...I swear I could see smoke coming out from his hears. From out of nowhere I saw him hurl his snowball at me with lightening speed. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Chris run out from behind his fort and chuck one snowball right at his face, he made contact. I tried to get away from Kevin’s shot, but slipped on a sheet of ice. I fell backward and accidently did an awesome matrix. I landed in a soft, powdered patch of snow encasing almost my whole body in a cool white blanket. I clamped my hand to the sides of the patch, and started to form a snowball while still buried in the snow. The grainy snow, felt like wet sand unlike the snow in powdery patch I was in now. I clutched the snowball, and traced my fingers around the spherical never ending, blindingly white ball. On contact, the outside of the snowball started to melt, the freezing water dripping past my finger tips...

Fighting Fire with Fire

...Jett Stewart, (Nate) Song Comparison Music Appreciation- 105 The song that I chose to do a comparison of is called Fire. It was originally written, performed, and recorded by Jimi Hendrix in 1967 and is on the first album by his group The Jimi Hendrix Experience. The song is two minutes and 47 seconds of pure Psychedelic rock or acid rock, as some called it. The song originally is in duple meter. It starts off with a lot of drumming on a drum set then afterwards there are the sweet melodic psychedelic sounds of Jimi’s electric guitar and voice. After that, there is a catchy bass guitar groove that comes in during the first chorus and enters in and out while back-up singers sing, “Let me stand next to your fire ”as Jimi sings the whole song and is on lead electric guitar. There are crescendos that lead up to Jimi’s awesome guitar solos throughout the whole song. The mood of the song is happy. The bass line is legato and the lead guitar part is staccato. The song for the most part is homophonic and has parts that sound polyphonic because he is singing while playing lead guitar. The band that made a cover of Fire is an awesome band called Red Hot Chili Peppers. They are an alternative and influential funk rock group that was made Los Angeles, California in 1983. They covered the song on their fourth album called Mother’s Milk, which was released on August 16th in 1989. Their version of Fire sounds the same except they took it from moderato to allegro and had more accelerandos...

Literary Heritage Poetry

...critically analyzed and in some cases frowned upon, but sometimes the writer creates a better work than that of the original piece. Also in some cases, the authentic piece is favored over the rendition. These accusations can be true for several reasons like; one favors the original writer or the singer better, the period-of-time the work was created was significant to a person, the person likes the style of the writer or singer better, or maybe he or she just likes the authentic or rendition version itself better for no exact reason. There are several examples where this exists. A specific poetic example of when the original is considered better than the rendition is, “Shall I Compare Thee To a Summer’s Day,” by William Shakespeare recreated by Howard Moss and a specific example of when the rendition of a song is considered better than the original is, “I love Rock N’ Roll,” by The Arrows covered by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Both of these authentic works are classics and are still popular today. When comparing them to their renditions, beauty, style and rhythm play an important role and can conclude why one is favored over the other. “Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer’s Day?” by William Shakespeare is considered to be one of his most popular sonnets, number 18 out of the 154 sonnets he wrote. This poem stands out from the others because of the comparison that is made of a young beautiful girl or boy to a summers day. For example, when Shakespeare says, “Thou art more lovely...

Footloose 1984 & 2011

...Footloose 1984 & 2011 COM/170 August 20, 2012 Footloose 1984 & 2011 Footloose! Seen it? Want to? Which one? There are two; one came out in 1984 (directed by Herbert Ross starring Kevin Bacon), and the other one in 2011 (directed by Craig Brewer starring Kenny Wormald). Music and characters are very similar, but the dance moves and time frame are different in both Footloose movies. The first thing noticeable is the difference in the time eras from one movie to the other. In the 1984 movie, the game of chicken is introduced when Ren is challenged to play chicken on farm tractors on a narrow road. Ren is driving one tractor and Chuck is driving the other going toward one another until one tractor goes into the ditch. Now in the 2011 movie, Ren and Chuck play chicken using derby busses to play the game, by racing in a figure eight (with four busses total making sure to not go too fast or too slow). The end is when one of the busses catches on fire, as Ren jumps from the bus, and crashes into the other bus. The other thing one will also notice is the similarities and difference between the reckless behaviors in the two movies, in the 1984 movie, when Ariel (the preacher’s daughter) is leaving church in a car with her friends; Chuck drives up beside the girls. Ariel climbs out of the car onto Chuck’s truck, and at one point Ariel is standing between the two vehicles while an oncoming eight-teen wheeler approaches head-on; both vehicles wind up in the ditch. Another...

Labor's Lost Play Analysis

...In practically any adaptation of an original work, there are bound to be certain discrepancies between the values presented by the original and those presented by the adaptation. Adapting a script of Shakespeare, however, almost inevitably involves a significant loss or change of much of the meaning in the work, as writing text as dense in implicit content as that of Shakespeare is a challenge beyond the abilities of virtually any playwright. As a musical adaptation of Love’s Labor’s Lost, Alex Timbers’s rendition has the potential for further loss of values, since the need to maintain a reasonable duration for the play conflicts with the added time required to accommodate the musical numbers, resulting in a more limited amount of meaningful...

...have been “Grandfathered” into the English language are becoming more obsolete by the minute, and the fact that they are not being used commonly makes an argument for English scholars of old in comparison to these modern day English teachers. This paper will explore ten words that are not commonly used in today’s conversations or taught in today’s English classes. Figurative language versus literal language Idiom – a group of words established by usage as having a meaning not deducible from those of the individual words. An idiom can be confused for a metaphor, if used in certain ways. I watch a lot of sports and one idiom that is commonly in most sports is that a certain player or team is playing with a “chip on their shoulders”. Playing with a chip on your shoulder, means that you are trying to make a statement with your play, it also means that you think that you know a lot. Idioms are used to enhance and make whatever the topic of discussion is more colorful and relatable. Idioms can be misconstrued when they are used in the wrong text. Someone can easily think that playing with a “chip on your shoulders” can mean that a certain player or team is playing with attitude or aggression or in some other type of wrong manner. Analogy – a comparison between two things to show similarity in some respect. An analogy is another way to get a point...
