...Qualitative Analysis In order to gain a better understanding of three-month Canadian Treasury bills, we must take an in-depth analysis of our current economy. By placing an emphasis on various economic indicators, we will be able to determine if investing in these treasury bills is a good financial decision or not. A strong indicator of our economies current financial situation is through evaluating our country’s GDP. Based on the nominal expenditure based personal GDP over 5 years (Refer to Exhibit BLANK), we have found that Canadian 3-month treasury bills and expenditure based GDP have a weak and slightly inverse correlation. During 2008, as GDP was near its lowest at approximately 880, three-month T-bills were at one of their highest points at upwards of 2.00. These findings may indicate that as our economy’s financial situation improved from our latest recession (2008-2009), individuals accrued more cash and assets and opted to spend elsewhere as opposed to investing and saving in the money markets. Since treasury bills have such a low default risk, the interest rate is one of the best determining factors when it comes to investing in this area of the money market. As evidenced in Exhibit BLANK, we can observe that Canada’s short-term interest rates have a strong correlation with 3-month Canadian treasury bills.
