Applied business unit 1.

I am writing about both business Woburn safari park and Cadburys world.
Why have I chosen these businesses?
Woburn safari park: I have chosen this business to explore the business qualities this company has, Woburn safari park plays a key tourist attraction in the UK it provides both local and international tourists a chance to explore the different animals the company provides, Woburn is a perfect example due to the fact that it promotes tourism development not just for the safari park but it also within a family of services such as inns, weddings , occasions and cooperate events and you can also book it for your own use.
Cadbury world: I have also chosen this business because it includes a lot of business opportunities it provides confectionary foods and beverages for the outside world it also plays a part for tourism because they own a factory which includes shops where customers can purchase any Cadbury creations, they also have an interactive tour where people get shown all around the factory and get given free samples of chocolate, this gives me a chance to really dwell on how the business operates.
What do these businesses do?
Woburn Park provides a service for anyone willing to participate they give families a chance to enjoy a fun day out for full customer satisfaction they also promote animal awareness to maintain the company’s reputation; they also do a VIP experience where customers get up close with the animals.
Cadbury provides confectionary products to customers and a gift shop to get products not normally sold in a corner shop; they also give people chance to get to know the business by providing talks about the company. They also make different products according to the celebrations like; scream eggs for Halloween, chocolate Easter eggs for Easter and chocolate Santa for Christmas.

Aims and objectives
What is an aim or an objective? And aim is a goal to where a business want to achieve it could be either a short term goal that would take little time to achieve or a long term goal. And an objective is the steps the company need to take in order to achieve the aims.
Woburn’s aims and objectives
To meet organisational aims Woburn safari park needs to make profit, maximise sales and increase market share.
Woburn is a privately owned business ,one of their aims is to gain profit, they earn profit because they have gifts shops this is a good way of earning profit because families might want something to remember the experience by or the children might want some products placed in the gift shops, restaurants this is a good way of making profit because naturally people will get hungry during long rides in the drive-thru safari park and foot safari ,the restaurants include a range of different food, drinks or snacks that people eat during their Woburn visit, and another way they make profit is by selling tickets ,the prices of tickets vary due to the amount of people going and children get a discount another aim for Woburn safari park is to gain more customers they do this by attracting them through prices and sales for example they have a VIP safari experience where customers can get up close with the animals in the safari park. Tourism industry is increasingly becoming one of the biggest earners of foreign exchange in any country .This industry has also proved to be a key sector in employment creation. The park provides a perfect option for local and international tourists that seek different environments for holidaying. The Woburn safari park is blended to provide the highest level of comfort provided by road and foot safaris. The facility has all the necessary amenities that improve the quality of life for tourists through wonderful experiences with the wildlife. https://online.venpos.net/Woburn/ShowPage.aspx?LID=1&PID=1c602aa0-678c-4344-88d4-cf225d3cc197 This is a list of the prices given to the tickets as shown the prices vary depending on the amount of people going the age of the people going ,like discounts for children or seniors. This also gains more costumers because of the discounts and they earn profit due to the prices.

Cadburys aims and objectives
Cadburys main aims and objectives would be to be the world’s most confectionary company the steps they would take to achieve this would be to gain more customers by promotion and sales and also to add more variety to the chocolate they create. They also aspire to make the worlds best chocolate and beat their competitors by beating their main competitors’ promotions. They also want to maintain their reputation so they would want to be ethical and make sure people they get the word out about being a fair trade, the important aims is to survive. Cadbury Schweppes aims to lead the way with its ethical approach in business.
They would try to gain more customers by using a survey so they would know what their customers like and improve it and adding more promotion to the particular product.

This is the result of a survey they did so they know what products customers prefer by doing this they would make more of these products and add promotion to them this would allow customers to buy the product because of the promotion. How are both of the company’s aims and objectives similar?
Both of these two companies aspire to gain customer satisfaction by doing this they will gain more customers and maintain a good reputation, because of the increase of customers they will gain more profit and that is also another thing that Cadburys and Woburn both want as their aims and objectives they both also aspire to become the world’s most biggest company this is good because both companies would not compete because they are both in different eras of a business Cadburys operate in the confectionary section of a business and Woburn operates in the animal section of a business.

What is Cadburys purpose?
The purpose of Cadburys is to sell chocolate and to survive by making sure they are known as the best confectionary company out there by constantly improving their chocolate and making new products they also survive by making sure their brands reaches all around the world and everyone knows about them and to satisfy’s customer’s needs by making surveys so they know what people like. Cadbury Schweppes is committed to providing a range of high quality treats, refreshments and confectionery based oral care products which are marketed truthfully, labelled clearly and meets the highest safety standards. Cadburys operate mostly in the secondary and tertiary sectors because they use raw materials (but they do not extract it themselves) and make them into chocolate and since Cadburys is a manufacturing company they manufacture their products and sell them to their main suppliers such as Asda and Tesco e.g.
What is Woburn’s purpose?
Woburn’s purpose is to provide a service for customers and to survive making sure they are known as the world’s best safari park and standing out from their competitors they are also constantly finding a way to make visits for the customers more convenient. Woburn safari park operates in the tertiary sector because they provide a service and they are a public limited company because they are open to the customers. Their purpose is to also show people the variety of animals they own
What activities does Cadburys do?
Cadburys provide activities such as a fun interactive tour within the factory they give customers a chance to get a full experience of how Cadburys was founded and how it grew from their This is a great tourist attraction because of my visit to Cadburys I got a chance to experience this tour for only £8.00 this was fairly cheap for such a hands on interactive and fun tour the tour will keep any aged customer engaged and makes it easy to learn how Cadburys was formed. Cadburys also provides a talk for visitors to learn about the business. Their purpose is also to provide people with the variety of products they make.
What activities does Woburn safari park do?
Woburn safari park offers a number of activities, they allow customers to get very close to the animals and pet them like the goat enclosure where you could go inside where the goats where and pet them. The safari park also offers a play area this is a very fun and engaging addition to the safari park and my experience there was very lively and interactive the play area includes slides and that fall into plastic balls e.g. the play area is both fun and safe there are safety nets to prevent people from falling and hurting themselves. Woburn also provide a talk for the visitors to learn about the park and all their different animals and what services they offer.
How the activities and purpose are for Cadburys and Woburn safari park both similar?
They are both similar because they both offer an interactive session, the tour for Cadburys and they play area for Woburn safari park they both also offer a talk to inform the visitors from my experience from both I would say that both talks were both very informative and engaging both talk managed to increase my knowledge on both companies and I learnt thing I didn’t know before the talk. Both companies aspire to survive and to offer willing customers the variety of things they have like for Woburn is to show the animals they have and for Cadburys it is to show the chocolates they have.
Who are Cadburys main competitors? Wrigley jr. company mars and nestle. Mars incorporated is actually the largest confectionary company in the world and that is why they are Cadburys main competitors because that is what they aspire to do.

These are Cadburys three main competitors because they are the world’s most popular confectionary food makers and Cadburys aspire to be better than all three.

Who are Woburn safari park’s competitors?
I think that Woburn’s competitors are all of the zoos in the United Kingdom because they all aspire to becomes the UK’s best zoo but Woburn’s main competitors is Whipsnade because they are closest to Woburn safari park and they also have animals that Woburn safari park doesn’t have which are Pandas because of this most customers go to whipsnade so Woburn offer a V.I.P experience to gain more Customers.
How are both Businesses competitors similar?
Both Competitors both aspire what they want like Cadburys competitors are already or aspire to become the world’s most confectionary company in the world and Woburn’s competitors aspire to become the world leading zoo and their competitors offer more things than they do like mars offer chocolate food and drinks as well as chewing gum because they own the world best chewing gum company in the world Cadburys do not own that and Woburn safari park’s offers pandas which Woburn does not own so both competitors are threats to them.

How does Woburn safari park operate ethically?
With Woburn’s background, it’s no surprise that Woburn has a willingness to embrace environmental issues. In fact, the Park has been working on improving its environmental performance since 2002, when management and staff jointly formed an enthusiastic committee to start the process of becoming registered to ISO 14001. Adele Clegg, Head of Learning at the Park, explained: “Everything we value means we have to consider the environment. We felt we had to start putting measures into practice.”
Four days of on-site support to help develop the ISO 14001 manuals and implement the system was also included within the project, and Adele said this was “absolutely fantastic”. The Park now has an updated and fit for purpose environmental policy, a register of aspects and impacts, a compliance register and an environmental management system that is three-quarters documented. A pre-audit by a certification body is on the cards for April 2008 and the Park plans to have full registration in September or October once the busy summer business peak trading comes to an end.
How can Woburn and Cadburys do to ensure they operate more ethically?
Woburn safari park can ensure they operate more ethically by recycling unwanted waste properly and Cadburys can do the same to decrease waste in the business.

How is Cadburys meeting its aims and objectives?
Cadburys aspire to meet its organisational aims by using promotion to maximise sales they would bring about surveys so customers can inform the business about what kind of product they prefer if the company knows this they would inform their stakeholders about putting promotions on that particular product ad that would automatically maximise sales and they would reach one of their organisational aims which was to gain more profit, doing this would also gain the company more customers and being ethical would maintain the company’s good reputation and that would maximise the chances of them being the world’s best confectionary company.
How is Woburn meeting its aims and objectives?
Woburn is a privately owned business so one of its main priorities is to make a profit. There are many ways in which Woburn safari park ears its income this includes gift shops, this is an excellent way to ear profit because customers can spend money within the safari park other than buying a ticket, Woburn also own restaurants so families can eat and drink the restaurant includes a variety of foods and drinks and various prices for each this is a good idea because people normally get hungry or thirsty after a long drive or walk through the safari.
Reflection
I found this task the easiest because we had just recently got back from our trip so I was fully informed about the entire questions asked so there wasn’t not much research needed but the only thing challenging about this was doing both Woburn and Cadburys because it was time consuming finding out information for both businesses. I think I need to improve more on my presentation it feels like my pictures were slightly irrelevant to the paragraph and my diagrams were all over the place but overall I would say I am 7 out of ten percent confident that I hopefully got a decent mark, I had fun during this task because it was a challenge my computer broke down regularly so I had to start again more than once but I am proud that I managed to get it to this quantity. The question about how Woburn safari parks meet its aims and objectives was hard because they didn’t inform us about that in the trip and there was hardly any information on it on the internet. ...A Guide for Writing a Technical Research Paper Libby Shoop Macalester College, Mathematics and Computer Science Department 1 Introduction This document provides you with some tips and some resources to help you write a technical research paper, such as you might write for your required capstone project paper. First, congratulations are in order– you are embarking on an activity that is going to change the way you think and add to the overall body of human knowledge. The skill of gathering information, deciding what is important, and writing about it for someone else is extremely valuable and will stay with you for the rest of your life. Because we humans have been doing this for quite some time, we have some reasonably standard forms for technical research papers, which you should use for your capstone. You should do this because your paper will better understood by readers who are familiar with this form. Before you can begin writing your paper, you need to have a sense for what research entails, so I’ll start there. Then I will give you some tips about writing, including connecting with your readers, defining your topic, the format of your paper, and how to include references from the literature. I am a computer scientist, so be aware that parts of this paper are biased toward my discipline. 2 What is Research? A short definition of research, as given by Booth, Colomb, and Williams (Booth et al., 1995) is “gathering the information you need to answer...

...are often used interchangeably to describe work which previously was done with paper, but which now has been adapted to information & communication technology (ICT) devices and software. The Information Technology Association of America (ITAA) has defined information technology (IT) in the electronic era as "the study, design, development, implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems, particularly software applications and computer hardware." IT entails processes involving the use of computers and software to create, convert, store, process, transmit, and retrieve information securely. The term has recently been broadened to ICT (Information and Communications Technology), so as to include the idea of electronic communication. To be paperless means essentially that the traditional paper-based practices-such as writing, note taking, reading, editing, communicating, and even drawing-are instead performed electronically with ICT devices and software. Much has been said and written about the paperless office in recent years, and the rapid development of ICT is enabling an increasing number of paperless practices. The relationship between paperless work styles and ICT is intimate and interdependent; a paperless work and lifestyle cannot be implemented without ICT, and the use of ICT should naturally lead to becoming paperless. Paradoxically, however, the consumption of paper has increased exponentially since the advent of personal...

...Learning Letter To be honest I’ve never been an excellent writer. When it comes to writing a paper for high school classes, scholarships, and basically everything else I’ve always had trouble with starting my paper and figuring out what to write about my topic. However, choosing a topic has never been a problem for me because I’m passionate about many different things. Whenever I would write a paper in high school I usually wouldn’t spend much time on it because of a couple different reasons, either the teacher chose a topic for me and I simply wasn’t very interested, and also because of procrastination. I believe this class will help me become interested in writing which will motivate me to do the work. As a person I’ve always been more of a reader than a writer. I started reading fantasies like the Lord of the Rings novels at a young age. During my freshmen year of high school I was introduced to writers and poets like Charles Bukowski, Allen Ginsberg, and Hunter S Thompson, and I’ve been reading similar works ever since. One thing that I’ve always wanted to do with writing is being able to write poetry similar to Bukowski. I’m hoping this class can help with that. Even though this class is obviously required to take I’m excited to be in it so I can improve on the things that I struggle with in writing. By the end of this quarter I want to be able to choose a topic, start the paper with ease, and also be able to generate ideas about the topic easily. I’m excited to see what...

...‘ My Reflection Letter” I feel like my writing has come along way however this class has given Me the opportunity to see that I need a lot of improvement in my grammar. But it as help me learn to take better notes while reading .I feel that I have learned a lot thus far in English- 090. However in the past, I have always felt afraid to express myself when writing. This I know is a very important aspect of composing and have been very critical of myself. I have always expected to strive to do my best . I put effort and thought into each assignment. However writing the first paper that was given , It really helped me to understand that most people don’t get it right their first try. Initially I would approach it as preparing my writing down note. Next, I proof read my work and correct the grammar and punctuation. Often, I will have someone read it for composition and clarification of my sentences. Finally, I would prepare my final copy. I have felt so much less pressure knowing that my writings don’t have to be perfect the first time. This is why I really like how you give us the opportunity to revise our essays as many times as we need to get them to our satisfaction. I know that I’m never content Often it reaches the point when I get frustrated and think, “Okay, I need to stop stressing over this. My biggest Road blocks does not allow me to think of ideas fast enough. As writing, one thing I really need to work on is organizing my thoughts...

Paper Brigguetes

...How to Make Charcoal from Paper By Karren Doll Tolliver, eHow Contributor Homemade paper charcoal briquettes can be used in backyard grills.  Commercial charcoal for grilling food is expensive and can be harmful to the environment. However, industrious do-it-yourselves can make their own "charcoal" from newspaper. This reduces the amount of newspaper refuse as well as the amount of commercial charcoal consumed. In addition, no lighter fluid is needed with the homemade charcoal paper. Therefore, petroleum-based products are also conserved. Making your own charcoal takes only water and a washtub. The time spent forming the charcoal paper briquettes is negligible, although they need to dry for a couple of days in the sun. Things You'll Need • Washtub • Water • Old newspaper Instructions 1 Tear the old newspaper into pieces about the size of your hand or smaller. 2 Place all the torn newspaper pieces in the washtub. Cover with water and let sit for at least one hour. The newspaper will be ready when it is thoroughly saturated with water and is mushy to the touch. 3 Grab a large handful of the mushy newspaper. Form it into a ball about the size of a golf ball or ping pong ball, squeezing out as much water as you can. Repeat until all the mushy newspaper is in ball form. Discard the water. 4 Place the wet newspaper balls in the sun for at least two days. Do not let them get rained on. They must be completely dry and brittle. At this point they are ready for use in the same...

Writing Papers

...the assumption that I would only have to compose simple paragraph papers while also learning the ropes of grammatical writing. I was sadly mistaken. Through the semester Josh gave the class five writing assignments. They ranged from three to five pages long. Out of all the writing assignments I received my favorite was a four page paper I had to write an allegory of myself. My least favorite was a five page paper the whole class had to write. About mid semester, when my hand only had a tingle, Josh lectured about Plato’s “A Allegory of the Cave.” Thus giving me my next challenging task he had in store. I had to compose an allegory of myself while explaining the concept of the Plato’s allegory. I had to dissect the symbolism in Plato’s allegory and prove how it coincided with my own allegory. What made this objective so interesting, yet so strenuous was the fact that my allegory had to be based upon a difficult time I have had in my life. My essay was littered with very detailed descriptors of my dreadful situation and Plato’s allegory. That is why this particular essay was my favorite. I8 was able to take a seemingly arduous task and break it down, in my own words, so that a reader would be able to comprehend “The Allegory of the Cave,” and still be able to relate to my allegory. The last essay due came just before my hand fell off. Before the class took our final exam we were obligated to write a five page paper as a whole. Josh told us we had to accomplish the task without his...
