...County. ARTICLE 2 – HISTORY The history of Hocutt Baptist Church began on January 13, 1957, when the church was officially organized. Early efforts date back to November 26, 1956. The 63 charter members met in homes for prayer and discussion concerning the organization of the church. The first services were held in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Pete Pulley. After this, permission was given for use of the Clayton Woman’s Club as a temporary place of worship, and the group worshipped there until the completion of the first unit of the building. Many people made sacrificial efforts in the organization of the church. Committees were formed, and much work was accomplished. Rev. J.L. Atkins, first pastor of the church, conferred with the pastor of the First Baptist Church, and other leaders in the Association. The organization meeting was set for January 13, 1957, at 3:00 PM at the Clayton’s Woman’s Club. A free will offering was taken during the organizational meeting and sent to the Cooperative Program of the Southern Baptist Convention, marking the beginning of the outreach program at Hocutt Baptist Church. The new church was...

...Leander Kinchen CHMN 201 – [C01] 02/23/2015 Spiritual Gifts Paper PART ONE:  What are your top two spiritual gifts?  Do you agree with the results?  Why or why not?  According to the assessment my two dominant spiritual gifts were Administration (23) followed by exhortation (18). I have to say based on the explanations that I agree. I know that God has called me to pastor a ministry one-day and I Currently serve in my local church as a lay minister. I agree with the assessment, as I am usually the first one to organize others to accomplish task and projects and make sure things get completed. I am also looked upon as a motivator at times when we have face challenges in the ministry. I currently serve as the Praise and Worship leader and have often wondered why this exhortative attitude seems to come so naturally. Although I can probably be labeled an introvert, when I am operating in these gift people never seem to notice how terrified I am inwardly. I have always attributed this to God being the one doing it and not myself.   PART TWO:  Specifically, how can you use your gifts at this time?  How might you misuse your gifts?  Be specific.  The gift of administration is most evident when there is a task or project to complete. Whether it's putting together our music ministry or even planning the events for men’s ministry I usually always take the lead and design a plan that will get the job accomplished in the allotted time. Also in the same areas I am usually the coach...

Pastoral Counsellin

...Often when we hear of some tragedy, be it large or small, we hear that ‘counsellors’ have gone to help those who are bereaved or traumatized by the disaster. Counselling is big business in the natural world. But counselling is also a very natural and very essential part of the Christian Church and the Christian life. With this argument postulated by McClatchey I launch my objective analysis of the question “Is Pastoral Counselling Necessary Today?” I do concur with the view that counselling is an integral and essential part of the church and Christian life. However to fully answer this question one has to first answer other fundamental questions, such as what is pastoral counselling? What is its aim and purpose? Also one must also observe the nature of pastoral counselling and its impact on the church, the home and wider society. For the purpose of this paper the proposed questions will be keenly examine so as to justly establish whether or not pastoral counselling is of any necessity in today’s society. A definition of the term ‘Pastoral Counselling’ is what be the first stride in looking at this intriguing argument. Pastoral counseling is a form of psychological counseling which incorporates spirituality into therapeutic treatment. The goal of this type of psychotherapy is to address a variety of underlying psychological needs from a faith-based perspective. As one observe this definition it is clear that pastoral counselling seeks to merge psychology and theology...

Macarthur Reading Report

...MacArthur Reading Report Introduction Pastor John MacArthur and the Masters Seminary Faculty provide a unique manual for the aspiring pastor or church leader in "Pastoral Ministry: How to Shepherd Biblically". The major theme of the writings focuses on the character and development of pastors in accordance with New Testament scripture including: Acts 6, 1 Timothy 2-4, Titus 1, 1 Peter 5. The authors demonstrate through biblical reference and personal experiences the model and character of one prepared for pastoral ministry. The aim of the text is to validate the biblical authority of the ministry, to educate in the biblical qualifications of pastoral ministry, and to outline priorities for the pastoral ministry. Summary John MacArthur and his panel at the Master’s Seminary Faculty separate the twenty chapters presented in the book into four major categories that are designed to provide the reader with a dynamic portrayal of what it takes to be an effective biblical pastor. The four categories transition the reader from the biblical perspective of pastoral ministry to the practical. They include: biblical perspectives of pastoral ministry, the preparatory perspectives of pastoral candidates, personal perspectives of the life of a pastor, and pastoral perspectives for shepherding the people of God. Through the text, we recognize several prominent and consistent themes including: accountability to scripture, the character of a pastor, and leadership. One theme that remains...

Quality Rated Reflection Paper

...I was call from God to be more than average on a new program, policy and procedures for day cares in Georgia. This program will be required for all new and old day cares in the next two years to start and complete before they receive their new or yearly license. The entire process was to adapt to recent changes for a new program called Georgia’s Quality Rated. Georgia Governor asked Bright From the Start to find volunteer day cares, that never received any compliance, to commit to the program. As a day care owner, being in business for more than 21 years, it was hard for me to accept the changes. I kept putting the process off until one day a Quality Rated Trainer asked me what was wrong and I explained why I was running from the process....

Focm Reflection Paper

...Bibliography…………………………………………………………………..6 & 7 i  Introductio My dad always told me when it came to priorities, that it was always supposed to be God, family, then everything else. Now that I do have girlfriend, whom I am happily in a very serious relationship with, my dad says my priorities should be: 1st God, 2nd my girlfriend and family, 3rd should be whatever else I value. This reflects the balance that pastors must deal with on a daily basis, how to deal with a ministry while maintaining a healthy family life. My dad taught me exactly what pastors must do when they prioritize, to put God as number one, then focus on your family, and finally the church ministry. Keeping Priorities In Check There have been many cases where the pastor puts the ministry as number one on their list, then God, and then their families. An instance would be that they feel that God gave them their calling, they follow it, but they forget to keep a daily devotional life with the One who gave them the calling. But this isn’t the correct way to set one’s priorities. Although a pastor may justify himself in that the ministry was his calling, I don’t believe that is the way God called us to conduct our lives. Yes, saving lives and bringing people over to Christ is a very important issue, and a noble cause, but what good is it to win the whole world yet loses one’s sole? A better example would be, to win the whole but lose one’s family. Some people may even put God number one, ministry...

The Pastoral Role

...Pastors are a gift to the church. Now, at the risk of making what reads like an arrogant assertion, we must consider what the Bible tells us, for we know from scripture that after His ascension, Jesus gave gifts to the church, and one of those gifts was pastor, “And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers” (Ephesians 4:11). This passage proceeds to shed some light on the purpose of these gifts, “For the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the status which belongs to the fullness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:12-13). This singular purpose, of equipping and building, produces an equally singular result – maturity in the life of the believer. There certainly are a number of other tasks and functions for the pastor to fulfill, but as I read these verses in Ephesians, the purpose of the pastor seems clear. Over my fifteen-plus years of fulltime, vocational ministry, I have seen some disturbing trends. I believe that ministry, pastoral ministry specifically, is a powerful and significant call, but I have seen many pastors fall into the trap of operating in an office outside of that which they have been called to. Sometimes this is based in a desire for notoriety, other times a desire for more money, or perhaps even because their intentions were good...

Pastors and Ministers

...The Roles of Pastors and Ministers in the Church In a church ministry we must all be balanced. Remember that we are partners’ not just members in the church body as a whole. Also remembering that no matter what our religion of choice is that pastors and ministers both have valuable roles in the church. Pastors and ministers are partners in the purpose and calling of the church. They must both be on the same page as far as the vision, mission and well being of the church as a whole. Even though the Vision of the church comes from the pastor it is the duty of the minister and the members to carry out this vision and the mission. The pastor is the God appointed leader of the church and the minister is appointed by the pastor but both must hold a high regard to biblical basis for the ministry. They have been called and appointed as overseers of the church. There is a necessity for both of them. They are to serve and to implement order to the church body. They are both held to the same accountability. They are both servants of God and they serve the congregation. The difference between the two is that the ministers are to keep down mumbling amongst saints in other words, keep down confusion. Look after the widows of the church and be able to relieve the pastor of his duties if necessary. The pastor is a God appointed leader and the minister is a God appointed servant. Both of their primary function is to understand the purpose of Jesus and how to lead the people. The...

Counselor Confidentiality

...The objective here that is seeking to be answered is, "If a counselor is an associate Pastor on staff or even just solely a counselor should the Senior/Sole Pastor be made aware of details on every client, since it is important for the Pastors to know their flock in order to best know how to lead and tend them, or does confidentiality apply always strictly between counselor and counselee". It is important to start off understanding what Counselor confidentiality is at its most fundamental nature. It is the responsibility of a therapist or counselor to hold any proprietary or personal information supplied by a patient in the strictest of confidence. It is a generally accepted ethic that breaking counselor confidentiality by revealing the type of information stated above, without the expressed permission of the patient, is considered highly unethical. Keep in mind, however, that in Standards B.1.d, the ACA Code of Ethics requires counselors to fully inform their clients of the limits of confidentiality (ACA, 2005). Also, HIPPA- Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act-actually gives a list of nearly two pages of things where confidentiality may be breached legally (hhs.gov). Counselor confidentiality in a "classical" setting, which is the viewpoint we have been speaking from thus far, is designed to allow patients the freedom to share information about themselves that is private in nature, but is important to the process of helping the individual...
