To years in a row, my hockey team was defeated in the last minutes of the first overtime period. Everyone worked so hard to get to the championship, winning would have made us the best team in the league. Hockey is a game of strategy and knowledge. Knowing the plays and making quick smart reactions is as important as being physically in shape. To become hockey smart you must master vision. Vision is the concept of constantly scanning the ice making it seem like you have eyes on the back of your head. By doing this you will know where everyone is supposed to be at any given time. In the movie Goon the main character Doug Glatt is a perfect example of a player that used his strengths to help his team win. Not being a very good skater, Doug helped the team by starting fights and sticking up for his players by protecting them on the ice. Because of his fighting skills, he was noticed by hockey scouts and coaches. After the zamboni was done cleaning the ice we walked out of the locker room and got on the ice. The game flew by and before I knew it we were tied 3-3 at the end of the third period. Everyone was having so much fun because the competition was so high. As soon as my teammates and I stepped on the ice we battled as hard as possible to contribute to the team. My team was the underdog since Lake Zurich was the number 1 seed and we were number 2 seed. But even though Lake Zurich was a bigger and stronger, my team had smarts and strategy on our side because of our great coaching. Even though Lake Zurich had mastered the dreaded trap defense we had a plan to spread out and get passed it. In the trap 3 offensive players line up in a V formation at the red line in the middle of the ice. The 2 defenseman stay back by their blue line waiting for the team with the puck to advance and attack
