Founded in December1998, Paypal became one of the world’s largest internet based payment system. Firm Infrastructure As part of global expansion, Paypal entered NASDAQ to attract investors priced at $13 per share. Caso Paypal

The Acquisition of Ebay and Paypal

...introduce the acquisition of eBay and PayPal, and why eBay decided to acquire PayPal, what happened after the acquisition, and my recommendations about eBay’s acquisition strategy. I will start with the backgrounds of these companies. In PayPal's official website, it described itself as “ the safer, easier way to pay and get paid online. The service allows anyone to pay in any way they prefer, including through credit cards, bank accounts, PayPal Smart Connect or account balances, without sharing financial information." (PayPal, n.d., para 1). It is a person to person (P2P) payment system that people can transfer money easily by using its services; it is very popular in the online shopping area. Another company, eBay, was defined in its official website as an online shopping website in which individuals and companies can buy and sell various goods and services worldwide (eBay, n.d., para 1). Both companies are focusing on the online trade sector; but eBay is similar to an "auction" as well as PayPal is a payment method. Motivation Online P2P payment was a new idea at that time, and as any emerging market, many P2P services such as Flooz, Beenz, and CyberCash were failed (Punch, 2002, para 3). PayPal was one of those P2P payment companies that survived after competition. At that time, PayPal became the leader in P2P payment industry, and it was the most popular payment method in eBay auctions; more than 50% eBay users were using PayPal (LD, 2010, para 2). On the other side...

...Absolute Advantage and Comparative Advantage According to the classic model of international trade introduced by David Ricardo (19th-century English economist) to explain the pattern and the gains from trade in terms of comparative advantage, it assumes a perfect competition and a single factor of production, labor, with constant requirements of labor per unit of output that differ across countries. The basis for trade in the Ricardian model is the differences in technology between countries. As a result, there are two different ways to describe technology differences: the first method, called absolute advantage, is the way most people understand technology differences; and the second method, called comparative advantage, is a much more difficult concept. Absolute advantage is the simplest measure of economic performance. It is the ability to produce a good at a lower cost, in terms of real resources than another country. Absolute Advantage is neither necessary nor sufficient for a country to export a good. In other words, a country has an absolute advantage economically over another, in a particular good, when it can produce that good more cheaply or it can produce more of the good than another country can, with the same amount of resources. In fact, absolute advantage appears when multiple products are being considering. For example, if the country “A” has an economic advantage against the country “B” at producing the product “X”, and the country “A” has an economic...

...An advantage of using an open environment is increased speed, having a virtual storefront is less expensive than operating a real one. It is also cheaper than what you would have to pay for utilities and everything with having a store. An insecure e-commerce gateway page will usually speed up the transaction process but won’t necessarily translate into the sales. With an insecure e-commerce page reduces the fees that you would have to pay because it does not involve a third party to handle the transactions. There is no encrypting involved so you do not have to pay a programmer to do that. The problem with that is though when people wish to buy products from you they would print the page out, fill it out and then fax it with their credit card information to you. There are some drawbacks to doing business the print and fax method, most online shoppers won’t go near an insecure e-commerce page. Doing it this way makes it easier for Identify theft to happen as well because you have to fax them the information and people can keep the faxed copy. The BBB and the Federal Trade commission warn and advise people against site usage that does not provide a secure e-commerce transaction. When it comes to purchasing music or videos a person can get them right away by downloading them to their computers. Most people want to buy from sites that are easy for them to pay for the product and get it soon after they pay for it. The disadvantages defiantly outweigh the advantages on an...

...Strategic Position is how well an organization matches its internal resources and capabilities to its external environment. A SWOT analysis is helpful to summarise the key issues arising from an analysis of the business environment and the capabilities of an organization to gain an overall picture of its strategic position. This can also be useful as a basis to generate strategic options and to assess future courses of action. A SWOT is company specific as opposed to the Porters five forces which is industry specific. The aim is to identify the extent to which strengths and weaknesses are relevant to, and are capable of dealing with changes that take place in the business environment. It has become increasingly important for Internet users to be alert and aware of the type of scams that are designed to steal information and potentially identities. Internet users that fall into phishing traps quickly become victims of identity theft and credit card fraud. On average, these scams cost individuals about $1200 (SonicWALL, 2012). To avoid these scams, Internet users should be extra careful when opening emails and clicking on links that ask for personal information. 1.) PayPal I correctly answered that this email is an example of phishing. I did not initially read all of the email. I took a couple of glances at the way it was set up.
