Peepo! By Janet and Allan Ahlberg is a peaceful lullaby with interactive pages, told with modesty jovial couplets and the bright pastels accompanied with dark embellishments allows the reader to step into a world where a rosy cheeked child explores his ever changing surroundings as his father prepares to head out for war. The story opens up with a baby reaching out of his crib and provides us with a question “What does he see?”, although the next page only provides us with a little hole to allow our seemingly endless imagination run rapent. The heavily detailed and cunning illustrations are beautiful and distinctively beautiful. As we progress through the book we see Angelina elegantly dancing and joyfully twirling as if she is center stage at a ballet. The intense and varied hues of rose and indigo establishes our world of juvenile bliss and poise. Helen Craig illustrates the book with the utmost care and attention to every minute detail from the column in the newspaper to the print on the toy in the toy shop window. Angelina's colonial white fur accompanied with dazzling rose bow allows her to pop from the otherwise seemingly bustling scenes. As the story progress we observe Angelina's never ending love for ballerinas, which comes true one evening. Within a cerise box we see a salmon coloured tutu. From that point on we see Angelina transform. From letting the boys catch her on the playground to cleaning her room. Angelina proceeds to take numerous classes whilst knocking over countless people. On the last page we see a grown up Angelina on stage in front of numerous people. Wearing the same salmon tutu Angelina spins and twirls mid stage while onlookers clap
