...History The pharmacy of Caleb Bradham, with a Pepsi dispenser, as portrayed in a New Bern exhibition in the Historical Museum of Bern. Pepsi was first introduced as "Brad's Drink" in New Bern, North Carolina in 1898 by Caleb Bradham, who made it at his home where the drink was sold. It was later named Pepsi Cola, possibly due to the digestive enzyme pepsin and kola nuts used in the recipe.[2] Bradham sought to create a fountain drink that was delicious and would aid in digestion and boost energy.[3] In 1903, Bradham moved the bottling of Pepsi-Cola from his drugstore to a rented warehouse. That year, Bradham sold 7,968 gallons of syrup. The next year, Pepsi was sold in six-ounce bottles, and sales increased to 19,848 gallons. In 1909, automobile race pioneer Barney Oldfield was the first celebrity to endorse Pepsi-Cola, describing it as "A bully drink...refreshing, invigorating, a fine bracer before a race." The advertising theme "Delicious and Healthful" was then used over the next two decades.[4] In 1926, Pepsi received its first logo redesign since the original design of 1905. In 1929, the logo was changed again. In 1931, at the depth of the Great Depression, the Pepsi-Cola Company entered bankruptcy - in large part due to financial losses incurred by speculating on wildly fluctuating sugar prices as a result of World War I. Assets were sold and Roy C. Megargel bought the Pepsi trademark.[5] Eight years later, the company went bankrupt again. Pepsi's assets were then...

Pepsi Case Analysis

...PepsiCo 2005 Case Analysis June 17, 2009 I. Definition of the Issue The PepsiCo-2005 case study has several issues revolving it. It has the internal issue that PepsiCo has not been able to consistently meet its growth goal of 15+ percent annual increase in earnings for the last 10 years. Its external issues consist of its products as reaching maturity stage industry wise and its divisions, except Frito-Lay North America (FLNA), fail to rank highest in its respective market segments. Division wise, the company holds a large share of each respective market, but over-all the company sustains a flat growth rate and fails to meet its growth goal. In respect to this, it can be seen that the real issue in this case is the need of a strategy to sustain a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in earnings per share of 15 percent per year. This paper aims to develop a three-year strategic plan for PEPSICO that can best ensure this growth through this decade. II. Objectives The paper’s objectives include designing of alternatives that may aid its development for a sound strategy in response to the issue through a quantitative analysis. The paper would also include an analysis of each alternative. From the generated alternatives, the paper would focus on one that would seem to best apply to the given circumstances. The paper also includes a potential problem analysis to aid in strengthening the strategy’s defenses and enables the company to predict and anticipate...

Case Analysis - Cola Wars Continue: Coke and Pepsi in 2010

...Case Analysis – Cola Wars Continue: Coke and Pepsi in 2010 Coke and Pepsi are two leading companies in the soft drink industry. They contend with each other during decades. The Cola Wars are a campaign of mutually-targeted television advertisements and marketing campaigns since the 1980s between soft drink manufacturers The Coca-Cola Company and PepsiCo. Historically, the soft drink industry has been so profitable. Porter’s Five- Forces Model of industry competition can define and analyze an industry in terms of five main factors. In this industry, competition is quite cruel between rivalries since Coca-Cola and Pepsi are already powerful leaders in the industry. It is basically a duopoly situation in soft drink field. The two companies share the whole market making them a huge profit even the industry itself is flattening. Due to the situation in the industry, there is not any barrier for entering but new company will be extremely risky to enter the market, since both Coca-Cola and Pepsi are mature companies with high reputation during decades. Unless the new enterprise is highly innovative and surely can do a better job than the two industry leaders. Therefore, threat of new entrants is expected to be very low. The threat of substitute products mainly comes from the promotion of a healthy diet, which makes juice, power drinks and other non-CSDs a better choice other than sodas with lots of sweetener and fat. This threat however, has been overcome by the introduction of...

Pepsi and Google Leadership Case Study

...Pepsi and Google Leadership Case Study 1. Culture is an essential element of organizing in the P-O-L-C framework. Do you think Google has a strong culture? What would it take to make changes in that culture, for better or for worse?           Undoubtedly Google has one of strongest cultures in today’s corporate            World. The strong work culture has paid off for Google as it is ranked            consistently as the best place to work.            If Google were to remain in the best position in the future, It has to           change continuously and   evolve accordingly to face the competitors.              Google’s cultural innovations might be imitated in other companies as           well. It is easy to have a good corporate life style when the company            the company is doing very well on the economic front. When company’s            resources become more constrained with the maturing of its industry            and its business model, these kind of investments will be harder to            make. Pepsi Case Analysis

...Robin Cheema 6/27/16 Pepsi Case Write Up Being indian myself, it is pretty interesting analyzing the pepsi case and their situation. After reading through the case, one thing stuck out to me the most and that is that Coke is like an older brother to Pepsi. I say this because Coke had made the bold move to push for international expansion earlier than Pepsi, who followed shortly after in Coke’s footsteps because of the sales potential it saw from what Coke was doing. Not only that, Coke over the years began to invest more heavily in advertising as they realized branding played a huge part in the consumers decision of what soft drink to buy, for which shortly after Pepsi began to take advertising more seriously as well after seeing Coke’s success. What ever way you look at the case, it’ll seem like Coke is always just one step ahead in the game. Coke is the best at its game, what Pepsi needs to ask itself is what can they be the best at! Because their only going to trail behind Coke if they don’t take a risk and make a bold move of their own! I believe that bold move can very well be reaching the full potential of their expansion into india. With the CEO of the company being Indra Nooyi an indian, she is someone who is familiar and knowledgeable about India which is a good thing for a company trying to expand its operations into that country because she would be able to handle obstacles and local issues of the country more effectively and efficiently than Coke...

...marketing management | PEPSI COLA PAKISTAN INC | CASE STUDY ANALYSIS | | GROUP 1: MUSA TANVEER SARMAD AFZAL SHARYAR CH AHMED IBRAR HAROON SHAUKAT This case is about PEPSI CO and the Problems CEO facing. He is facing various problems after the acquisition of 7-UP by PEPSI CO .Teem was the lemon and lime soft drink of Pepsi co which was competing 7-UP but after the acquisition of 7-UP it is becoming difficult for them to separate both products in market. Basically the CEO is worried about the local market share of 7-up which he want to increase and on the other hand without effecting the share of TEEM which is a quite difficult job . Acquisition of 7-up has made two bottlers of PCI to merge with 7-UP bottlers and it is clearly understandable that TEEM operations cannot be further performed by these bottlers because now they are dealing with 7-UP, So what PCI has done is that they have launched a new flavor of cloudy Teem in this area with distinct characteristics of fresh lime to not effect 7-up and in other areas TEEM is still dealt with PCI bottlers which are not the part of merger . So CEO Mr. Irfan had to develop a plan to promote the two flavors of TEEM locally and nationally .Moreover he also has to achieve a task which is to convince the 7-up bottlers to sell their plants to PCI bottlers and after the success of this task he has to ask the PCI bottlers to introduce cloudy Teem, abandoning TEEM and promote 7-UP. To overcome with existing...

...consolidation among the bottler’s and the backward integration with both Coke and Pepsi buying significant percent of bottling companies, it is very difficult for a firm entering to find bottler’s willing to distribute their product.  The other approach to try and build their bottling plants would be very capital-intensive effort with new efficient plant capital requirements in 1998 being $75 million.  • Advertising Spend: The advertising and marketing spend (Case Exhibit 5 & 6) in the industry is in 2000 was around $ 2.6 billion (0.40 per case * 6.6 billion cases) mainly by Coke, Pepsi and their bottler’s.  The average advertisement spending per point of market share in 2000 was 8.3 million (Exhibit 2). This makes it extremely difficult for an entrant to compete with the incumbents and gain any visibility. • Brand Image / Loyalty: Coke and Pepsi have a long history of heavy advertising and this has earned them huge amount of brand equity and loyal customer’s all over the world. This makes it virtually impossible for a new entrant to match this scale in this market place. • Retailer Shelf Space (Retail Distribution): Retailers enjoy significant margins of 15-20% on these soft drinks for the shelf space they offer. These margins are quite significant for their bottom-line.   This makes it tough for the new entrants to convince retailers to carry/substitute their new products for Coke and Pepsi. • Fear of Retaliation: To enter into a market...
