As I live my life through years, I can’t get off of the thought of what is really my purpose of living. I was struck by the fact that the world needs more people to save it, to save us, from downfall regardless of the huge and increasing population that we have. As what the proverb says, "Madali ang maging tao, mahirap magpakatao.” This makes me think of how does this proverb exist? Does it mean that people have less knowledge of humanity? How does it become easy to be a human, but it is difficult to act like one? This drives me to generate my own beliefs.
It has always been my principle that rather than think about what you can receive, think about what you can give to others. This principle of mine has strengthened enough through GIMIC. As what I have seen on the different inspiring and motivating videos that Kuya Maco has presented to us, I’ve been moved to take a step closer to service. One has to learn to humble himself; to become a person with a pure heart, a heart that urges to serve others despite of differences without asking of something in return. I don’t want us to arrive at the point of living in the world where we don’t look out for each other. Not just the people that are close to us, but anybody who needs a helping hand. A simple act of kindness can be a tool to promote humanity.
Of all the talks that I’ve been through, there’s one quotation that hit me true, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country”. As John F. Kennedy says, let’s not always wait for others to help us; let’s be a light to somebody’s life. It’s not always other people will stretch their arms to us, instead we should insist to extend our arms to them. In this sense, we can be a hero not just of our own but also for others.

A Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man

...A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man Context James Joyce was born on February 2, 1882, in the town of Rathgar, near Dublin, Ireland. He was the oldest of ten children born to a well-meaning but financially inept father and a solemn, pious mother. Joyce's parents managed to scrape together enough money to send their talented son to the Clongowes Wood College, a prestigious boarding school, and then to Belvedere College, where Joyce excelled as an actor and writer. Later, he attended University College in Dublin, where he became increasingly committed to language and literature as a champion of Modernism. In 1902, Joyce left the university and moved to Paris, but briefly returned to Ireland in 1903 upon the death of his mother. Shortly after his mother's death, Joyce began work on the story that would later become A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. Published in serial form in 1914–1915, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Mandraws on many details from Joyce's early life. The novel's protagonist, Stephen Dedalus, is in many ways Joyce's fictional double—Joyce had even published stories under the pseudonym "Stephen Daedalus" before writing the novel. Like Joyce himself, Stephen is the son of an impoverished father and a highly devout Catholic mother. Also like Joyce, he attends Clongowes Wood, Belvedere, and University Colleges, struggling with questions of faith and nationality before leaving Ireland to make his...

To Kill a Mocking Bird

...Lee, Harper—To Kill a Mockingbird 1960 TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD by Harper Lee DEDICATION for Mr. Lee and Alice in consideration of Love & Affection Lawyers, I suppose, were children once. Charles Lamb PART ONE 1 When he was nearly thirteen, my brother Jem got his arm badly broken at the elbow. When it healed, and Jem’s fears of never being able to play football were assuaged, he was seldom self-conscious about his injury. His left arm was somewhat shorter than his right; when he stood or walked, the back of his hand was at right angles to his body, his thumb parallel to his thigh. He couldn’t have cared less, so long as he could pass and punt. When enough years had gone by to enable us to look back on them, we sometimes discussed the events leading to his accident. I maintain that the Ewells started it all, but Jem, who was four years my senior, said it started long before that. He said it began the summer Dill came to us, when Dill first gave us the idea of making Boo Radley come out. I said if he wanted to take a broad view of the thing, it really began with Andrew Jackson. If General Jackson hadn’t run the Creeks up the creek, Simon Finch would never have paddled up the Alabama, and where would we be if he hadn’t? We were far too old to settle an argument with a fist-fight, so we consulted Atticus. Our father said we were both right. Being Southerners, it was a source of shame to some members of the family that we had no recorded ancestors on either side of the Battle of Hastings...
