Personal Action Plan

...Personal Action Plan Comm/315 March 14, 2016 Personal Action Plan Intro I would consider myself to be in the middle class, not upper middle class nor lower middle class. My husband and I live comfortably he is Active Duty Army and I work in an office setting getting paid decent money. We are able to buy things we want and not only things we need. When it comes to outings and restaurants we usually pick something the average person would choose; Olive Garden, Chilis, Apple Bee’s, a restaurant in that nature. Nothing extraordinary nor fancy. We go out to a nicer dinner on special occasions but it is not an every weekend thing, because we simply cannot afford dinner that cost $60+ per person on a regular basis. I have decided to observe people in the upper class at an expensive restaurant, my paper will cover observations that I have made, what I have learned, and how my experience has helped me feel more comfortable, and socially conscious. Observations; Comfort level My husband and I decided we would go out to a more expensive dinner so I can make some observations. We decided to go to an upper scale restaurant in Washington Dc, Fogo De Chao. It is a Brazilian steakhouse, where they serve an all you can eat amount of different types of meats. We took a seat at a table where there was a candle in the center of the table they serve your drink in a wine glass they have white cloth napkins perfectly folded on the table. The age group here ranged from mid to late 20’s to...

Personal Action Plan and Observation

...Personal Action Plan and Observation COMM/315 June 25th 2012 Elizabeth Jane Riegner, RN, PhD, NCC Personal Action Plan and Observation Social Class differences in American society are typically described as lower, middle or upper class. This determines to a large extent where one lives, work, go to school and even worship. Social class refers to one’s status in society and is usually determined by a variety of social and economic factors such as net worth, position of power, job title and dwelling. (Bucher, 2010). Other superficial factor that comes into play in social class distinction includes type of outfit, hairstyle, car, makeup, jewelry and mannerisms. The purpose of this paper is to observe a different social class outside of my normal environment and develop a personal action plan based on my observation to share with class while integrating my new found knowledge to improving cultural awareness and diversity skills. Observation I place myself in the middle class category based on my profession, net income, and decent home in the suburban area. Because of my middle class status, I chose to observe people I believe to be in the upper socio-economic class. I chose the Lenox mall located at Buckhead- Atlanta GA which has been frequented by the superstars and Millionaires. I took advantage of the weekend shopping for father's day to visit the mall and chose the high end store called Louis Vuitton (LV), a luxurious brand name store that sells variety of leather...

Personal Action Plan Observations

...Running head: PERSONAL ACTION PLAN Personal Action Plan Observations Rhonda Riley University of Phoenix Diversity in Communications COMM/315 Peter Pizor October 20, 2009 Personal Action Plan Today, instead of going to The Red Lobster with my co-worker for a lovely, lavish steak and lobster lunch; I decided to go to the unemployment office (Henderson - Job Connect), to observe the various types of people coming in to apply for employment; in an attempt to identify the social differences that one would encounter there and possibly get a story or two from some of the applicants. What did you observe? Upon entry, I spoke with the receptionist and explained reason for being in the office. I told him that my Diversity in Communication assignment required that I observe the people and environment of a public business. I asked if it would be okay to hang out for awhile and people watch. He said sure, he actually thought it was amusing. My first observation of the place was that the majority of the applicants in the office were Caucasian women. Had it not been an employment office, you would not have know that they were there to seek employment because they were not dressed to professional, not as one would dress when applying for employment. They wore jeans and t-shirts with tennis shoes or sandals. Why was this situation out of your comfort zone? Initially, I believed that there would be lots of lower-class citizens waiting around for assistance...

Personal Action Plan for Diversity Consciousness

...BEHS 220 (2152) Personal Action Plan for Diversity Consciousness 8 March 2015 Introduction Diversity is an ongoing discussion in day-to-day life. Not many situations occur without diversity having a role. There are a multitude of topics that introduces or involves diversity, to include age, sex, race, gender, ethnicity and so on. Prior to participating in this Diversity Awareness class, I’ve always thought diversity was more geared around discrimination and racism. Through weekly readings and discussions, I have discovered that diversity is much broader than that. There are many countries that are mixed culturally with people from all over the world, but none like the United States. The United States has the largest mixed culture in the world. Growing up in South Carolina I was exposed to different cultures, however I never fully witnessed some of the cultural things I’ve witnessed since joining the Army. My time in the Army has taken me places I never would have imagined and have exposed me to many different cultures. Reasons for taking BEHS Diversity Awareness I am pursuing a baccalaureate degree in Criminal Justice and it is required for me to complete 6 semester hours of Behavioral and Social Science courses. I’ve always been fascinated with understanding and learning more about...

Ethics of Ecology

...Wildlife Conservation Adam Burdick Bryant & Stratton College NSCI 280 Professor Wooten 10/20/2013 Human beings are considered to be the most advance species on the planet. This also makes us the most intrusive species on the planet. We effect our environment more than any other living creature. Our populations continue to grow exponentially each year and as they do we intrude on other species habitats even more. Considering we are the most advanced species it is our responsibility to ensure the safety of all other species and do what we can to shorten the endangered species list. The conservation of wildlife is an incredibly important goal that all people should take part in. “Successful species conservation has often been defined as simply the avoidance of extinction” (Redford 2011.) This is the most important goal of anyone interested in wildlife conservation. It is important for us as a species to take responsibility and make the effort to keep other species away from extinction. Wildlife conservation is not something that can only be handled by professional members of organizations. Anyone can do their part to help protect a species in need. In some cases it is as simple as refraining from harmful activities such as hunting for sport. Hunting is a major conservation concern (Selvan & Veeraswami, p11.) If people raise awareness about how hunting effects the populations of large bodied animals perhaps we can help to reduce the damage done to these...

Biodiversity

...Biodiversity Paper Biology as a science concerned with living organisms, said organism’s function, origin, structure, and distribution is defined through numerous subdivisions and branches. Conservation biology is a branch, which deals with certain factors threatening biodiversity as well as the preservation of genetic and biologic diversity of animal and plant species. Threatened, endangered, and extinct species are only some factors that may influence biodiversity. Any given species has to meet a certain criteria to suit the previously named terms. Conservation biologists are concerned with numerous species because of said species’ influence on the interrelation within their ecosystems, and the interruption of such ecosystem when the numbers of a certain species are drastically decreasing. Conservation biology is concerned with the maintenance of species, their genetic variation, ecosystems, and communities within such ecosystems. Biodiversity includes “The variety of life and its processes, including the variety of living organisms, the genetic difference among them, and the communities and ecosystem in which they occur” (U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, 2004, p. 1). Even though the term “species” is complex, and some definitions may differ slightly from others “A species is often defined as a group of individuals that actually or potentially interbreed in nature” (Berkley University, n.d., p. 1). Therefore, a species is defined as the greatest gene pool that can...

Personal Narrative: My Plan Of Action For After High School

...My Plan Of Action For After High School I plan to start off with going to Hawaii Pacific University and majoring in United States History. I want to choose history particularly because of how much I loved the AP United States history course I took in tenth grade. I never wanted it to end. The reason why I am choosing HPU is because I have looked at it and it suits my needs. It is financially one of the best colleges I can choose because I get a major discount due to the fact that my Father, David Hull, works there. I also am very much at odds with leaving the state without my parents, as I am very close to them. Hawaii Pacific University fits all my needs in those regards. Once I start taking classes there, I will provide for the family income...

Personal Repsonsiblity

...By definition, personal responsibility is taking responsibility for your actions, accepting the consequences that come from those actions and understanding that what you do impacts those around you. When I think of what personal responsibility mean to me, my definition is similar depending on the situation. Does personal responsibility and college success have an effect on each other? Can this effect be positive or negative? Do you have a plan to practice personal responsibility in your education? After evaluating my personal responsibilities and prioritizing them, I have developed a plan to keep my college experience a successful one. Personal responsibility to me means taking ownership of actions and accepting any positive or negative consequences that may be involved. This could be keeping track of important task to ensure that they are completed in a timely manner and to the best of my ability. For example, knowing that an assignment for classed is due, and waiting until the last minute to get it done. Neglecting this personal responsibility could mean not putting forth your best effort due to rushing. Some consequences for this action could mean not getting a grade that could have been achieved by spending a little more time throughout the week, or even worse not completing it at all. Personal responsibilities should be prioritized, and never neglected. My idea of personal responsibilities and college success being a relationship is how it clashes together as one. If...

Personal Responsibility

...Running head: Personal Responsibility 1 Personal Responsibility Tia U. Robinson Gen/200 January 26, 2012 Eric Graves Personal Responsibility 2 Personal Responsibility Personal responsibility can be defined in many ways. It has different meaning in many aspects of daily life. This essay will discuss the definition of personal responsibility and how it relates to both daily living and education. This essay will also discuss a preliminary plan to practice personal responsibility in education. Personal responsibility means being accountable for one’s own conduct and being willing to receive the consequences of those actions, whether positive or negative. It has several other meanings such as personal growth; it demonstrates strength of character, making right choices, dependency, and so forth. “Personal responsibility is one’s ability to take care of oneself by means of, keeping healthy, managing one’s emotions, keeping a sound mind, treating yourself with respect…,” (“Can you define,” 2012). “All blame is a waste of time. No matter how much you fault you find with another, and regardless of how much you blame him or her, it will not change you, “(Dyer, 1996-2009). Personal responsibility is a learned behavior. We, as human beings, are not born with this ability. At a young age we are taught by our parents to act responsibly. We are assisted by them to obtain a way of life and personal qualities that are used in our daily lives as we mature to...
