Personal Narrative: A Career In Bilingual Education

As a current bilingual teacher in the Ft. Bend District, Mrs. Martinez thrives for the success of all her second-grade students. My mentor has shown passion for those ‘at risk’ students for the last thirteen years, by instilling in them a sense of self-empowerment, and motivational strategies. Mrs. Martinez truly believes that the students success tells you how successful one as the teacher is. The path to becoming a successful educator, depends on one’s ability to maintain an organized learning environment, learning other people’s learning styles and catering to the needs of the students. Her method of delivering material and ensuring the students success has a lot to do with her perspective on the negative connotation around ‘at risk’ students,…show more content… Martinez is always saying is ‘if it makes you happy”. One specific time she was heard saying this is when one of her students asked her if he should join the school’s soccer team. Noticeably, she also lives by that phrase in her personal life. Selecting her current career path was not an easy one, initially Mrs. Martinez was drawn by the lucrative industry of oil and gas. With a major in International Business she was able to find a job quickly and locally. However, after two years of ups and downs in the industry as well as her satisfaction with her job, she brainstormed what she truly wanted to so and decided to change her path. She took initiative and figured the steps she was supposed to take to become certified in early childhood bilingual education. By taking and acting upon her priorities she managed to maintain her job while pursuing her new goals. It did not take long before she was in the classroom, and has been thriving in her career for the last thirteen…show more content… Martinez motivation not only comes from herself, her children also motivate her to become the type of teacher she would like her kids to have. In her school, she has been given many awards however the only ‘award’ she needs is to have a one hundred percent passing rate. Mrs. Martinez’s motivation has earned her the opportunity to present a speech in front of her peers, to her this an accomplishment because the motivation she implants in her students are also visible outside of the four walls she calls her classroom.
As she continues in her career she does have another goal she cared to share, was that she one day hopes to present a TED Talk over the implantation of motivation from teacher to student. She is always doing something other than her job and successfully juggles her personal life with her job. An interesting thing she shared was that she doesn’t let her life revolve around her job. She prioritizes and lets her activities including charity, church, family trips and others including her job revolve around
