Ever searched for answers for so long and then finally find the answer and felt reassured? Well, I have! I finally found resources to assist with problems that I have had for some time, pronoun antecedent agreement, commas, and public speaking. When I look at some of my old work now, I can see where I went wrong and now I know how to fix them or improve them. “The Little Seagull Handbook with Exercises” assisted me and made is easier to understand where I was making mistakes and how to correct those mistakes. Here is an example of a sentence I wrote in high school: Each of the students do a great deal of work in their class room. That sentence is grammatically incorrect. I interviewed my dad, who speaks to a number of groups for his job, and looked up YouTube videos for public speaking tips to help me overcome my fear of public speaking. My dad really good advice that calmed me down and told me to recognize the importance of identifying with the audience. His tips really helped me to not be as nervous and when I recognized the importance of identifying with the audience, it helped me calm down by setting the audience at ease a little more. Another useful tip that my dad gave me was making sure that I familiarize myself with the information. This advice helped me really focus on learning the information I was going to present and in turn, it set me at ease because I knew the information well. My other resource I used was a YouTube video called, “Become a Better Speaker: 9 Essential Public Speaking Tips- College Info Geek” by Thomas Frank. Out of all nine tips, I found one suggestion especially helpful. The tip was “Do not worry about being perfect.” This advice really helped me just be able to breathe and calm my nerves, because I fret over doing and saying things perfectly and this pointer reminded me that I do not have to be perfect and even if others think that I did an acceptable job, I will still be able to spot out things that I did wrong or not the way I had envisioned.
