Once I was nine years old. One day I went to Wal-Mart with my mother and I wanted to look at the toys.
"Hey Mother," I said
"Yes?" My mom said.
"May I please go look at the toys in the toy area?" I said.
"You may just looking, we may not buy any toy," My mom said.
"Ok, thank you mother," I said.
So I started walking to the toy area, there were all these awesome toys and stuff. I was there for at least an hour, I was just there waiting for my mom to pick me up. I was getting exhausted from walking, and I didn't have a phone so I couldn't call her to ask her where she is. After another fifteen minutes, my mom had finally passed by the toys area with a cart filled with all this stuff for …show more content…
Nothing was set up yet in the house, we didn't have furniture or anything. So I decided to go into my empty room, there was nothing in my new house it was almost impossible to break anything in that new house. So I opened my new yo-yo and I got that new toy smell, it smelled funny, but I didn’t care, when I first touched it, I felt goosebumps all over my body. This wasn't my first yo-yo. The truth is I got a wooden yo-yo from my grandpa and I still have it to this day. I keep it in a box on my shelf. I had decided to play with my new yo-yo, I had done the sleeper on the yo-yo, but it didn't come back up. So I rolled the yo-yo back up and threw it again. But it didn't come back up. I was getting angry, and I went on YouTube and looked up how to yo-yo. I watched these YouTube videos and have been practicing for two weeks. Then school started. I went to a new school called Northwood Middle School, I didn't know anyone there. I didn't have any friends, all I had was the yo-yo. The first day of middle school nothing happened I just went to my classes and that's it. When I got home all I wanted to do was play yo-yo because my first day of middle school was horrible. When I got home after school I picked up my yo-yo and I threw it, but there would be a knot and the momentum carried this yo-yo to the wall. It made the loudest sound, everyone in the whole world could hear that I messed …show more content…
I had met a lot of people because of the yo-yo if I wasn't playing with the yo-yo I wouldn't be the person I am today. I would be a completely different person if I wasn't playing with the yo-yo. If I wasn't playing with the yo-yo, I would be a heartless soul, I wouldn't have the same personality, and I would just be a fat kid without a life. Yo-yoing gave me a life, it made me who I am today, it's my one talent, and you can even say it is my passion. Follow your passion, don’t give up on your dreams, and achieve the goals you set for

The World Is Flat Summary

...Summary Friedman concludes that the world is flat on a visit to Infosys Technologies Limited in India, where he travels with Discovery Times. Friedman is impressed by the campus’s advanced technology such as the glass-and-steel buildings and large flat-screen televisions. Nandan Nilekani, the company’s CEO, tells Friedman that the playing field has been leveled; now countries like India can compete for global knowledge. Friedman realizes that the world is flat, which fills him with both dread and excitement. Friedman believes there are historically three great eras of globalization. The first was from 1492-1800, which he calls Globalization 1.0; the second was from 1800-2000, which he calls Globalization 2.0. Friedman argues that we are now in the midst of Globalization 3.0 is a period in which the world shrinks from small to tiny, flattening to such a degree that individuals can collaborate and compete globally. Friedman tells the reader that the purpose of this book is to understand how the world became flat as well as the implications of that development. Friedman spends a night in an Indian call center. Twenty-five hundred twenty-somethings work in this multi-floor facility; some are “outbound” operators, selling various items, others are “inbound” operators, tending to the customer-service needs of various companies. Friedman notes that there are about 245,000 Indians working in this industry, which offers them high-paying, high-prestige jobs. Employees are trained how...

Personal Narrative Essay

...Personal Narrative Essay Title: “For Sale” Everyone knows that phrase: “The grass is always greener on the other side”. But as a child it was a hollow statement for me. Until the day I perceived it as my philosophy of survival. This story is of my purest memories following my relentless battles. Simplistic flashbacks of virtuous kids. Full of laughter and play with nothing to be feared except for the day’s end. All before the moment where the innocence was dissolved away by the acidic misfortunes of life. [a series of sentence fragments] To illustrate, the first setting in this world was in the town called “Ocala”. It was in South-central Florida, a place where nature thrived and creatures of all walks of life roamed. The most business we had there was a prison thirty miles away, and a Wal-Mart 30 miles further down the same road. So one would say it was pretty rural. Just a quaint ole town, where the trees outnumbered the people. My best friend Samantha and I loved the fact that we had mother-nature as our playground. Spending most of our waking moments playing in the open forests, we’d sneak around concocting strategic methods on how to collect lizards and insects, then place them in small decorated cages. Once we obtained our new pets, we would examine and befriend each one, always setting them free later. However, our nights were different, pictures were taken, video games were played and even dress up was included from time to time. Videogames helped enable our...

Vision Statement

...STATEMENT Every school has its own story to tell. The context in which teaching and learning takes place influences the processes and procedures by which the school makes decisions around curriculum, instruction, and assessment. The context also impacts the way a school stays faithful to its vision. Many factors contribute to the overall narrative such as an identification of stakeholders, a description of stakeholder engagement, the trends and issues affecting the school, and the kinds of programs and services that a school implements to support student learning. The purpose of the Vision Statement is to provide schools with an opportunity to describe in narrative form the strengths and challenges it encounters. By doing so, the public and members of the school community will have a more complete picture of how the school perceives itself and the process of self-reflection for continuous improvement. This statement is structured for the school to reflect on how it provides teaching and learning on a day-to-day basis. Mission Statement:
The mission of Gardner Newman Middle School is to meet students' needs by providing quality educational and personal growth opportunities ensuring success in our ever-changing world. Our commitment is to guide and inspire students to be responsible, productive citizens, to nurture students to achieve full potential in the classroom, to maximize students' intellectual, artistic, technological, and physical abilities, and to seize every opportunity...

Warehouse Worker

...ride from the Warehouse Workers United (WWU) headquarters, located at 601 S. Milliken Ave, Suite A Ontario, California. The bus is full of workers and community supporters filled with excitement and anticipation. We leave the WWU parking lot, heading south on Milliken ave, past the multitude of temporary staffing agencies and warehouses and over the train tracks. We take another left at the stop light onto E Mission ave and on the right, I can see all of the ‘Wal-Mart’ and ‘Swift’ containers through the thin line of trees. We turn onto Wineville ave, and we arrive at the warehouse. The bus doors open and the suffocating smell of animal decay from the nearby farms and slaughterhouses, mixed with truck exhaust and air pollution, billow in. Upon arrival, the workers and I, a student intern, grab Warehouse Workers United signs saying “Striking for our families, Warestaff unfair” and “NFI unfair” and join the picket line. The workers are on strike and we are picketing outside of the warehouse to protest against NFI and Wal-Mart in order to bring publicity to the...

Rfid Technologies - Supply-Chain Applications and Implementation Issues

...EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES: RFID RFID TECHNOLOGIES: SUPPLY-CHAIN APPLICATIONS AND IMPLEMENTATION ISSUES Rebecca Angeles RFID technologies hold the promise of closing some of the information gaps in the supply chain, especially in retailing and logistics. As a mobile technology, RFID can enable “process freedoms” and real-time visibility into supply chains. This article provides an introduction to the technology, several case examples, and implementation guidelines for managers based on published reports. REBECCA ANGELES is an Associate Professor, Management Information Systems Area, Faculty of Administration, University of New Brunswick Fredericton, Canada. Her current research interests include B2B commerce, mobile commerce and supply chain management. EWLY EMERGING WIRELESS TECHnologies, one of which is radio frequency identification (RFID), hold the promise of closing the information gaps in the supply chain. The applications of RFID are wide-ranging and include the manufacturing and distribution of physical goods such as automobiles and transmission assembly (Mintchell, 2002), minting bank notes (Anonymous2, 2002), oil exploration (Anonymous1, 2002), shipping and port operations (D’Amico, 2002; Dornheim, 2002), and pharmaceutical packaging processes (Forcinio, 2002), among others. Keen and Macintosh (2001) consider RFID technologies as part of the “universal infrastructure” that will support mobile commerce. These authors also foresee RFID as an example of technologies...

...MINI COOPER: MARKETING STRATEGY, DIGITAL MARKETING, BRAND & ETHICS 10.2478/cris-2013-0005 MINI COOPER: MARKETING STRATEGY, DIGITAL MARKETING, BRAND & ETHICS MARIIA MOISEIEVA The report is designed to examine, analyse, and evaluate where appropriately the current Mini Cooper’s marketing strategy, its digital marketing initiative, branding, and the importance of ethical values in Mini Cooper as well as other organisations. That is important for understanding of the practical applications of marketing is achieved by applying theory to them. It is determined that Mini’s marketing strategy has shifted in terms of targeting and brand positioning. As previously it was an affordable iconic British car, now it has become a cool luxury car dominantly for a young segment. Its international marketing strategy is differentiated in a way that a brand is built up on the historical iconic image of Mini for the UK and associated market, but it is not associated with any values in the past for the US customers. Overall, Mini’s marketing strategy is considered to be innovative, creative, and sometimes ‘silly’, which is of great value for its young energetic target audience. Digital marketing initiative also corresponds to the latest IT and social trends worldwide by ‘digitalising’ marketing initiatives and active social networking with the consumers. Brand is a core competence and ‘everything’ for Mini. Marketing is centered on its brand, not vice versa. An analysis of the Mini’s strategy...

Review of the Book at 'the World Is Flat'

...ABOUT THE AUTHOR Thomas Loren Friedman was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on July 20, 1953, and grew up in the middle-class Minneapolis suburb of St. Louis Park. He is the son of Harold and Margaret Friedman. From an early age, Friedman, whose father often brought him to the golf course for a round after work, wanted to be a professional golfer. He was captain of the St. Louis Park High golf team; at the 1970 U.S. Open at Hazeltine National Golf Club, he caddied for Chi Chi Rodriquez, who came in 27th. That, alas, was as close as Friedman would get to professional golf. In high school, however, he developed two other passions that would define his life from then on: the Middle East and journalism. It was a visit to Israel with his parents during Christmas vacation in 1968–69 that stirred his interest in the Middle East, and it was his high school journalism teacher, Hattie Steinberg, who inspired in him a love of reporting and newspapers. After graduating from high school in 1971, Friedman attended the University of Minnesota and Brandeis University, and graduated summa cum laude in 1975 with a degree in Mediterranean studies. During his undergraduate years, he spent semesters abroad at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the American University in Cairo. Following his graduation from Brandeis, Friedman attended St. Antony's College, Oxford University, on a Marshall Scholarship. In 1978, he received an M.Phil. degree in modern Middle East studies from Oxford. That summer...
