Personal Narrative: What I Learned In A College Class

This class has helped me learned many things about what to expect in college. The first thing I learned in class was the location of the Writing Center. When I moved to college, I did not have a clue where any of the buildings were located. However, I soon learned where the Writing Center is located because we had a class there. It is important for me to know where the Writing Center is located because it is likely I will need to go there while I am in college. Another thing I learned in class was how to form an appropriate email. In class we had an etiquette email assignment. I always knew how to write an email, but I never knew how I should address a professor in college. I learned that for this class I could say “Dear Kate”, but if I emailed …show more content…
The first useful topic we covered was about planning out a weekly schedule. One of the first class activities we did was highlighting our “free time” on a time sheet to realize how much time we actually had. Before college started, I was stressed thinking about the time I needed to study. However, this activity made me realize I have a lot of “free time”. The next useful topic we covered was the advisor interview. It was not until I finished my advisor interview that I realized I needed to switch advisors. I realized I did not have the connection with my advisor and did not trust him when selecting classes. I always questions if I should switch, but this interview helped me make the final decision to switch. I am extremely thankful I did this activity because my advisor will impact my experience for the next four …show more content…
Most freshman have no clue where buildings are located, but this class can help them learned about campus. Another point is that it can be challenging to understand the university software like PASS. This class has helped me become comfortable using PASS and D2L. Overall, this class can really help freshman learn about this campus.

In the beginning of the year I set a few goals for myself, and I achieved most of them. The first goal I had was to communicate with my professors throughout the semester. I have achieved this goal because I have gone to my professor’s office hours multiple times. I am in a difficult math class, so I always go to my professor whenever I have issues on homework. I am happy that I am comfortable with my professors. My next goal was to get into an honors group. I have not achieved this goal because grades have not been finalized, but I am happy with my current grades. I look forward to getting into an honors group in the future. My last goal was to make friends. I have achieved this goal because I now know so many people on campus. I have made friends in my hall, classes, and in clubs. Overall, I am satisfied with my
