Differentiated Instruction is a philosophy of teaching. Teachers who differentiate use different paths to get students to reach the same objectives or standards. Every student learns in different ways and needs different levels of support depending on the objective. There are many ways to implement DI. First, a teacher must pre-assess where their students are at the very beginning of a unit. Based on that pre-assessment data teachers should then figure out which methods of differentiation will work best for individual students in their ZPDs and plan lessons/ small groups/ conferences to reach each child. They should also consistently reassess students to figure out what growth they’ve made and what skills are still missing. Grouping students
