Scope and Delimination

This research will be conducted in CSU-SM SHS from February 2016- February 2017. It is focused on the effect of applied Riboflavin to tawa-tawa plant in the development of platelets in human blood

Definition of Terms

Tawa- tawa plant ( Euphorbia hirta) - belongs to the plant family Euphorbiaceae and genus Euphorbia. It is a slender- stemmed, annual hairy plant with many branches from the base to top, spreading up to 40 cm in height, reddish or purplish in color. Leaves are opposite, elliptic - oblong to oblong- lanceolate, acute or subacute, dark green above; pale beneath, 1- 2.5 cm long, blotched with purple in the middle, and toothed at the edge. The fruits are yellow, three- celled, hairy, keeled capsules, 1-2 mm in diameter, containing three brown, four-sided, angular, wrinkled seeds.

Riboflavin, - also known as vitamin B2, is an easily absorbed, water-soluble micronutrient with a key role in maintaining human health. Riboflavin is an orange powder, and water solutions have intense greenish yellow fluorescence. Vitamin B2 is a water-soluble vitamin, one that cannot be stored by the body except in insignificant amounts. It must be replenished daily.

Platelets - are only about 20% of the diameter of red blood cells, the most numerous cell of the blood. The normal platelet count is 150,000-350,000 per microliter of blood, but since platelets are so small, they make up just a tiny fraction of the blood volume. The principal function of platelets is to prevent bleeding.

Thrombocytosis -disorder in platelets where the platelet count is too high.

Thrombocytopenia- disorder where in the number of platelets is too low.

Centrifugation - It is the process of separating lighter portions of a solution, mixture, or suspension from the heavier portions by centrifugal force.

Electronic blood cell counting - is based upon the principle of impedance (i.e., resistance to current flow). Some hematology analyzers combine impedance counting with light scattering to measure platelets.

Hemolysis - (or haemolysis)—from the Greek αἷμα (aima, haema, hemo-) meaning "blood" and -lysis meaning a "loosing", "setting free" or "releasing"

Coagulation - is a complex process by which blood forms clots. It is an important part of hemostasis (the cessation of blood loss from a damaged vessel), wherein a damaged blood vessel wall is covered by a platelet and fibrin-containing clot to stop bleeding and begin repair of the damaged vessel.

Platelet count - is a test to measure how many platelets you have in your blood. Platelets help the blood clot. They are smaller than red or white blood cells.

Objectives of the Study

The general objective of the study is to make a medicine for the development of blood platelets. This medicine that will conducted is much cheaper than the other medicines for blood platelets.
