Founders Day

Founder’s day was a wonderful week at Jackson state this week. I learned a lot this week at Jackson state from all of our previous presidents about the fantastic sonic boom, and more. I learned that back in the day the university was just called Jackson it wasn’t called Jackson state until a couple years later. I’m glad that Jackson state gives us a whole week to inform us about our institution. To see all the magnificent people come back who use to attend here back in the day make me so happy. It made me realizes how much they cared and still do care about Jackson state to come and talk to the former students here. I love my dear old college I wouldn’t want to attend another college if I had the chance to. Rather the students know it or not Jackson state has so much history behind it. It’s not what people make it seem, some people make it seem like it is a partying school and the students never get anything done here. That is not true at all the professors go all out of their way to help us so we can live a better future. Listening to the old jacksonians made me appreciate my education some of them was here doing the shooting at alexander dorm on May 14-15, 1970 when the two men were killed, and some was here when a Gibbs-Green plaza didn’t even exist. Most universities do not have a day where they just recognized founder’s day because they think it’s not important at all. They also informed us when Smith was president the university reduced its overall debt, fiscal management practices, increased campus security measures and launched a campus improvement project that involved the community. They contained a campus master plan the project growth of the university well into the 21st century. Hefner enhanced the program and established a community development corporation to improve blighted areas around the campus, so that we would be able to receive scholarships. Vision 2020 was a reading based math oriented system for pre k-16. Jackson state has come a long way from where it used to be until now. We have had ten amazing presidents who have come and did a wonderful job as they have help Jackson state to be a home for us away from our homes. I love Dr. Meyers she make coming to Jackson state so worth it. We can’t leave out our fantastic sonic boom that’s the best band around the south. The sonic boom gets better every year everyone know all about the wonderful sonic boom. Jackson state has grown from the protest and horrible things that were going through the hard times during the 1970s. Now it is a peaceful college it has a plaza, alexander is fine, and it has amazing students walking around campus getting their education. I don’t think any other university can compare to Jackson state. It may have had its up and downs, but it has come out to be an amazing campus with amazing students in it. It had three groups trained masters, teachers, and nurses that were educated by private church school. Mclemore was one of the presidents that were the founder of the department of political science. By Ayers being the first president and Barrett being the second they did a good job by carrying along Jackson state and making it progress as the years go by and the other presidents came in to take place. I am glad that I attend a school that doesn’t mind telling their students about the history that our school had to go through to get where it is now. I appreciate Jackson state my professors teachers my fellow peers and the old jacksonians I can say for now on I am going to be looking forward to founder’s week next year. I didn’t think it would be nothing like it came out to be, but I enjoyed every minute and second of it and cannot wait until it return.

Personal Narrative: How My Mom Changed My Life

...binder, a pack of pencils -i always ask for the normal wood ones, i hate the sound mechanical pencils make when they write on paper- and a pack of black bic ballpoint pens. What i'm mainly happy about is the bag my neighbor bought me, its bright green and big with the logo eastport on it. Though my supplies barely take up 10% of the bag, i put them inside thinking positively about this school year. I will fill my bag with work and books and hopefully i'll acquire more supplies along the way. Honestly, i'm just excited for school to start. Summers are always the bane of my existence since my ma is a nut job and i dont have my brother to keep me company anymore. I can understand school being boring and stressful, but its actually not that bad when you are only allowed to leave the house for school and when you have literally nothing else to do in life but homework and read. Im very much looking forward to school because I'm a freshman in highschool, and high school is just something a kid dreams about. You see all these movies about teenagers living their lives and finding themselves, and though i know this isn't gonna be like highschool-freaking-musical, i still hope to figure SOMETHING out about myself. This summer has been -by far- the absolute worst summer in my entire educational career. My ma is just getting progressively worse, her mood swings are terrifying, she hasn’t let me even leave the house to get the mail in the last month, -i've spent this whole summer under house...

Bubbles

...Bubble," Mariana Zanetti, an MBA graduate of IE Business School in Spain, argues that getting an MBA is a waste of time and money. The following has been excerpted from the book with her permission. The first thing I am going to say about wealth is that many authors who write about prosperity and wealth make it clear: A job will not make you rich. If you want to be wealthy, at some moment of your life, you will have to create a source of income other than your salary. This is an evident and crushing reality: If you sell your time to others, you will quickly reach a limit in your capacity to generate income. In his book "Rich Dad, Poor Dad," Robert Kiyosaki said that the rich do not work for money; they generate assets that work for them. If you want to learn how to work for money, go to school. If you want to learn how to work even harder, you should get an MBA. OK, some top managers earn millions (and they are therefore millionaires). Some people still think they can get to those positions with an MBA — as if the Businessweek study, which found an MBA does not have a causal relationship with professional success, was not convincing enough. Do you want some more proof that an MBA will not get you there? If you look at the degrees of CEOs of the CAC 40 (the main stock exchange index in France), you will see that the MBA is nothing but an "optional" degree. In some companies, it is still desirable to climb the corporate ladder. These companies represent a very low percentage...

...Eye on Asia Can soaring population give India an edge over China? Posted by: Bruce Einhorn on September 19, 2006 India’s population is exploding and is likely to surpass China as the world’s biggest within a few decades. In a country where more than 25% of the people live in poverty, is that a good thing? One of the top executives at India’s premier pharma company seems to think so. Last week Brian Tempest, the former CEO and current “chief mentor” at Ranbaxy Laboratories, told an industry gathering that the growth of India’s below-25 population “is going to act as a secret weapon in the future,” according to this report in the Hindu. Tempest went on to take a jab at China, saying that slower Chinese population growth would put the Middle Kingdom at a disadvantage. Says Tempest, “the one-child policy in China will play a spoilsport.” The logic is simple. Fast population growth equals more young people, and more young people equals a more dynamic work force. According to the Indian Express, citing India’s Ministry of Labour and Employment, India already has an advantage over more advanced economies. The median age in India in 2000 was 24, compared to 30 in China, 38 in Europe and 41 in creaky old Japan. However, most of those Indians live in the countryside, and it’s no secret that India’s rural population is not sharing in the boom enjoyed by people in other parts of the country. In the past, Asiatech blog readers have written in to debate the merits of India’s development...

Its a pretty honest and downright straightforward discussion, so dont read it if you arent ready for it In this generation of entitlement, some of it may not make sense, but I guarantee its all true. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What follows is a list of the 10 qualities of a good leader. 1. Honesty Do or Do Not, there is no Try! Leaders have to be honest. If those under your charge do not trust you, then they won’t follow you. Common sense, if you ask me. 2. Responsibility If you are going to make decisions, then you should take responsibility for the decisions that you make.
