Point Springs & Driveshaft Company

Point Springs & Driveshaft (PSD) was founded in 1926. In 1997, PSD merged with Brake Drum & Equipment to better serve the trucking industry’s needs. They supply medium & heavy-duty truck parts to customers ranging from owner-operators to very large fleets. PSD specialize in Driveline, Brakes, Suspension, and Hydraulics. Their main distribution area is in the states of Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, New York, Maryland and Virginia and ship merchandise to other locations via UPS, Fed Ex, or by Common Carrier (Point Spring & Driveshaft Co, 2003, p. 1).
Out of 5,000 truck parts distributors, PSD was recently recognized by truck parts and service magazine as one of the top five distributors in the United States. PSD provides 200 product lines which consist of the most known and trusted brand names in our industry. Point Spring Co. has ten locations in 3 states plus a top notch Brake Relining Center. In addition to Point Spring & Driveshaft Co.; their sister companies are Brake Drum & Equipment Co., Valley Spring & Driveshaft Co., Island Spring & Driveshaft Co., and Brake Lining Supply. Brake Lining Supply is one of the nation largest and most trusted brake remanufacturing centers. When a set of brake shoes are purchased from BLS, customers receive a quality product that is equal to or exceeds all original equipment standards (Smith, 2007, p. 1).
Prior to using Vendor Management Inventory (VMI), PSD depended on their legacy business systems to manage inventory. Those traditional business systems were sufficient, but they had limitations. Information that was critical for business processes were not updated frequently to maintain a true picture of demand
