Each day I come back home from my soccer club I would feel upset that i’m not as good as the other kids, I would try to ask my friends from the soccer club the techniques that they would use to play better but each answer was the same and didn’t help me.Which was “I naturally play soccer very well” or “I take soccer lessons”. Since these suggestions or ideas didn’t help me I thought, I should start playing and practicing soccer at my house a lot more. Each day I got better and better, also there was a soccer tournament end of the season tournament I couldn’t wait for that. So here I am, just 1 day before the tournament and I’m at the soccer club. Everyone practiced a lot of drills and it was 20 minutes left before leaving, the coach said “let’s play a match”. I was kind of nervous because I was the youngest one in the soccer club, everyone else was 10, 11, or 12 years

Scion Commercial Analysis

...Hector M. Lopez Ms. Baily Writing I, Sec. 17 December 17, 2010 Love at first scare; the use of fear to manipulate consumers. The commercial for the 2008 Scion xB starts with a camera shot of a large boulder rapidly swinging across the screen, in what appears to be an empty industrial warehouse, as if it were part of a pendulum. In the background a child’s voice is heard, in an almost whispering manner, repeating “he loves me, he loves me not” in rhythm with the boulder as it swings over the car. After this, the camera shot changes to show a close up of the front tire of a bold metallic-orange Scion xB, standing out against the dark industrial setting, and the crude, unpolished textures of the boulder and the weathered concrete ground. Eventually the camera zooms out to include the swinging boulder and two identical orange cars on opposing ends of each other, about forty feet apart, and barely out of the boulder’s reach. Following this the shot zooms in again, and after two more swings of the massive boulder, the boulder slams into the side of the car, sending several pieces of metal into the air, and causing a large dent, about the size of both the side doors, on the right side of the car. After this collision, the camera focuses on the other, still untouched, car. In the background the wrecked car and the boulder can be seen. Upon switching to this shot the child’s voice can no longer be heard. After this, a man’s voice states “love it, or loathe it; the 2008 Scion xB.”...

The Importance Of Writing

...the opening of the introduction. Including a strong thesis statement will take control of the topic and emphasize the significance of the essay to the audience. Once the introduction is complete, the next step of the outline is the topic sentence. A topic sentence is a part of the body paragraph; it supports the main idea of the thesis statement. In addition, adding evidence to the body paragraph supports my topic sentence, presenting a strong claim. After supporting the topic sentence with evidence, my writing gradually transitions into the next topic. Leaving out a transition in an essay may appear rushed and choppy. When I am reading my body paragraph aloud, the outro of the topic should gradually end. Finally, yet importantly, the end of the outline is the conclusion of the essay. The conclusion restates the main argument, allowing readers to think about the essay. The next step after brainstorming and outlining is the rough draft. Before the rough draft, I eliminate distractions such as turning off my phone and t.v. and sitting at my desk. Now that I am prepared to start my rough draft, I will begin to review my prewriting notes. These notes determine a focus for the rough draft. A rough draft also allows me to express my ideas the first attempt. Using my brainstorming and outlining exceeds by making corrections and revising. The drafting step of the writing process is a part of the outline; it includes a thesis statement and body paragraphs with main ideas and...

Gender and Symmetry

...in a mathematical sense is different from the task at hand (the symmetry associated with the Strong Theory), but is valuable nonetheless. Anatomically and biologically the sexes are seen to be asymmetric in nature – to the point of having an entirely different chromosomal structure (XX v. XY). This type of asymmetry, while not explicitly related to the concept presented by Bloor et al., is in fact at the heart of my reasoning for the conceptually asymmetric nature of gender. In Hallberg’s discussion of gender there is often mention of the boundaries in place for women as a result of the pre-existing social awareness of the centrality and success of men. In a symmetrical view of gender there would also be consideration of the possible positive effects of such a social construct. For instance, perhaps the scarcity of females in a certain corporation enhances the odds of selection for a management position for the few females that do work there. As a result of the possible existence of contrasting factors in the modern social network, I initially wanted to embrace gender as a concept that lends itself to symmetrical analysis. However, Hallberg discusses symmetry in gender...

Critical Thinking

...Critical Thinkers and Education A Teachers Goal Bia Mcgrue Scypion EDU372: Educational Psychology Prof. Jimletta Vareene-Thomas 2/20/2016 Critical Thinkers and Education A Teachers Goal Throughout life we are challenged and we encounter an abundance of issues or problems that we need to solve. Some problems that can be resolved effortlessly and efficiently but other obstacles may require a more critical and creative thinking to overcome. When it comes down to thinking to solve problems we depend on our thinking or give some regurgitated answer that we just read. But “much of our thinking, left to itself, is biased, distorted, partial, uninformed, or downright prejudiced” (TCTC, 2016). The purpose of critical thinking is so that we are able to not only accomplish or attain understanding but also so we can assess or check each other’s frame of reference and eventually clarify the question or dilemma at hand. Some would argue whose challenge is it to get students to move pass their beliefs and assumption. Is it on students to dig deeper to gain or find additional tools and information that leads to developing a more in depth thought process. Richard Dawkins expressed that we should “not indoctrinate your children. Teach them how to think for themselves, how to evaluate evidence, and how to disagree with you” (Dawkins, 2015). Picture a student who completes every assignment follows along attentively writes down the notes and answers the questions with the information found...

The Girl

...Introduction to Research Paper Writing The purpose of research writing is to collect, present, and interact with what is known about a topic. Primary research is “firsthand”—original research that generates new knowledge, such as scientific studies, social science surveys or case studies, and so on. Most college papers do not involve this kind of research. Secondary research is much more common. This is done by reading and organizing materials generated by others’ studies. (Most lower division college research papers are secondary research; primary research writing always begins with a survey of already-published research, often called a “review of related literature” or “lit review.”) Since this kind of writing is using materials that others have developed and published, it is very important to document and cite the sources of material used in writing. If sources are not documented and given proper credit, the result is plagiarism. Plagiarism may not be intentional, but it is still a serious problem. Passing off ideas, concepts, and data as one’s own is a violation of intellectual integrity. It amounts to theft of intellectual property. For many reasons, then, it is critically important to learn how to properly use material collected in research. The appropriate presentation of research content uses proper format. The format, or style, of a paper refers to the systematic way in which research materials are documented and cited. The documentation of sources used in a paper is...

Has Liberalism Betrayed Its Classical Principles?

...Has liberalism betrayed its classical principles? Liberalism is a powerful modern thrust which is not just an ideology, but has become more of a western understanding. Liberalism emerged during the 19th century, following the French revolution i.e. the feudal period. The philosophy had set out principles in relation to the individual such as freedom, reason, justice, toleration and liberal democracy. A century later, there was the establishment of modern liberals. Modern liberalist ideas are similar to those of the classical liberals but, in some cases differ quite vigorously. It has been argued that modern liberals have betrayed the core, classical principles of liberalism. Classical liberals believe that the individual is largely self seeking and self reliant. These liberals believe in an atomistic society, which is the idea that society itself doesn’t exist and that individuals are out to satisfy their own personal needs. C.B. Macpherson described early liberalism as ‘possessive individualism’ where one owes nothing to society. Modern liberals on the other hand have a more optimistic view of human nature. They state that an individual must have social responsibility for one another, especially those who are unable to care for themselves. Modern liberals trust that there should be a unity amongst individuals to create an effective society where one is able to flourish to the fullness of their potential. They are in favour of social support rather than the classical belief...
