Monologue

Motivation&Positivity

Hello Mr Sexson, this is my monologue for the aelp speaking course 2014-02-13

I’m gonna do a monologue on positivity and how I personally keep myself motivated

So I pretty much summarized these tips into like 3 main principles.

I hope that you enjoy this monologue and lets get started.

1.KEEP YOURSELF IN A POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT

So the first thing is to make sure you’re in a positive environment/positive atmosphere where you are sleeping, where youre working and living.

That could be like Your appartment, your room, your desk and office space.

It’s important to make sure that you are enjoying being in that space, so – is it clean?is it organized? Does it look aesthetically pleasing?

I personally like to keep everthing organized and clean , and I feel like that just makes everything look prettier so then when I’m walking by s.th. I’m like „oh that looks really nice!“

It makes you feel better when you’re in a space that is aesthetically pleasing, right? So maybe put flowers in your room if you want to, put a nice colour on the wall or put quotes around you,put pictures of your family and friends around you – just make your space beautiful and positive!

And that also goes for music like listen to good music, music always makes me feel good, so I always like to have music on. And if you have anything thats like negative in your room whether that be like a picture of someone that you maybe dont get along with anymore –get rid of that old stuff, because of course you want to be in a positive atmosphere. Maybe theres a few quotes that you like that you might wanna frame in or write down somewhere that you can see it, again to keep yourself in a positive atmosphere. So thats number one. 2. NOURISH YOURSELF, EAT HEALTHY The next step is to nourish yourself well. I feel the biggest difference when i eat healthy, if I’m like slacking off. I can feel the difference in my body, for example when I moved to Osnabrück i was in packing and everything was pretty stressfull, and i didnt have time to properly prepare food for myself, and i ate a bit of everything and i didnt feel Good inside, my body didnt feel good. But when I eat clean and healthy and really put effort into what i’m eating, it makes me feel so good, it makes my mood better, and i have more energy to do things. Ist so important to take time in the day to properly prepare meals for yourself and show your body some love and take care of it, and it’ll show you love back;-) Overall it definitely makes me feel more positive, when i go to bed after having a really good day of like eating well, i feel better about myself. 3. SORROUND YOURSELF WITH POSITIVE PEOPLE

The 3rd tip is to surround yourself with positive people, and this is so so important. Nothing is worse than beeing with someone who is constantly negative, its so taxing on your body. And i feel like negativity just breeds more negativity, and at the and of the day its not your responsibility to have to deal with everyone elses negativity , i mean its important to be a good friend, if your friend is obviously going through s.th., ist important to be there for them. But if this person is just constantly having negativity, and being bashful about other people, and talking and gossiping and all that, ist just like so unneccesary and theres so many other things you can fill your head with than drama and gossip and things like that. One of the scary things i think when thinking this way is that you probably gonna lose lose a lot of friends, but i feel like that is better than having friends that are negative or constantly gossiping, it jut does nothing really productive. Instead you can find other positive things to do like read a good book, join a club where you might find other people who are like minded to yourself, like an acting or art studio, or photography class or you know whatever your interest is.

END So those are my 3 tips, which are just overall and general and might seem obvious but ist about to be a good person, to be a helpful person, a positive person because it is so important and makes a big difference. i hope that you enjoyed this monologue, and thank you very much for listening!

Positivity

...control, pessimistic and sometimes trapped with failures as a result. I used to think things negatively, picking at the faults but recently, I have been trying to look at things in a positive approach. However, I feel like there isn’t enough positivity nowadays. Before, when I started my exams, some of my friends seem to have a fatalistic and negative approach about the results. “Oh I’m probably going to fail.” “I don’t care; I know I’m going to fail.” They seem to also force this negativity upon others. How about we apply the positive approach to this; instead of thinking constantly of failure, how about we all think about getting good grades, making it to next year? How about we thrive and work hard at the thought of this positive outlook? We will more likely to pass with this thought process and also gain valuable experiences as a result rather than beating ourselves with the faults. People tend to look at the cons more than pros, costs more than benefits, disadvantages more than advantages. Overall, negatives more than positives. We can change that. Instead of I can’t, try I can. A simple change in the words we say and think can help subtract the negativity from our thoughts. Start influencing others by spreading positivity and just encourage them when they are facing challenges too. Use more positive words and smile. But, you must remember to stay committed; this...

Positivity in Life

...Positivity The word Optimism comes from the Latin word optimus, which means "best". Optimists always look for the best in people and in situations. They also expect every thing to go well, but even if something bad happens, an optimist can still see the positive side. However, those aren't the only advantages to being an optimist. Today, I'm going to inform you on how being positive can help better mental health, physical health, and how you can be more optimistic yourself. Many recent studies have shown how being positive helps mental stablility, more specifically, an optimist doesn't have as much stress as a pessimist. Pessimists have little hope and confidence in themselves. For example, If someone had an exam, and they kept thinking negative things, like how bad they were going to do, they would worry about it. Little things such as this add up, and its just adding unnecessary stress to their life. Biologically, an optimist's body responds better to stress. Researchers from the Psychology Department at Concordia University released a study in 2013 that suggested optimists have more stable cortisol levels, which is the stress hormone. This means an optimist can handle their stress better. Because of this, Optimists are also at lower risk for anxiety disorders such as depression. A study called, “A Prospective Study of the Effects of Optimism on Adolescent Health Risks,” published in the February 2011 issue of Pediatrics. Teens with a positive mindset were...

Definition Essay On Positivity

...Positivity Positivity, “showing optimism and confidence”. Being positive is a trademark of my character and attitude. I could have chosen a lot of different virtues that I think are important, but I truly think that positivity is an accumulation of a lot of my virtues. Being positive takes a lot more initiative than you might think, but the outcomes of being positive are very rewarding. The positive mindset can help you get a little more patience and being positive also allows you to stay calm in tense situations. For example, if you are in a class that you don’t particularly like, patience and being calm are major components with getting through that class. It also allows you to see a positive in that class you are in. My example for a class, was Geometry. It made no sense to me, and I constantly got frustrated, and I decided to be positive one day, and after that day the class was fun, the math became easy, and I was not 100 percent frustrated. One day at Cross Country...

Listen to the Music: the Positivity of Our Obsession

...Music is unique to human beings. We are the only species on earth capable of making and comprehending music. It has existed since the early stages of human life; it is believed that music was developed before language and speech. It has the power to change our moods and behavior, as well as affect the way we go about the things we are simultaneously doing. Music is constantly changing and evolving, and many times it shapes our current culture. There is argument over whether the music nowadays has a negative effect on America’s youth. Hip-hop takes the blame for many social problems in America, however many people overlook the influence it has and are unwilling to learn what it is about. Music, and more specifically hip-hop, has a positive influence on people and our culture in several different ways, including the way it affects the human brain, and the way it shapes and changes our culture and society as a whole. Music has an effect over people on a neurological level, which goes unnoticed by many. Music makes the human brain operate and can be beneficial at very early stages of brain development. Music helps immensely in learning and memorization; babies can even speed up their auditory comprehension due to musical exposure. Adults speak slowly to babies, annunciate syllables, and emphasize the pitch of their voice according to whether they are saying a demand or a question. For example the pitch of your voice goes up when asking a question and goes down or stays even throughout...

John Dickerson Uses Light On The Positivity Of Social Media

...The surge of technology over the past decade has had an enormous impact to societies all over the world. In the past, journalist and writers would write down information and thoughts in a pad with a pen or pencil. Nowadays, many journalist and reporters use social media to spread the information. “It has improved this process of engaging with life through pausing to capture it.” (Dickerson). In this quote from John Dickerson’s article, Note to Self, Dickerson sheds light on the positivity of social media like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Instead of using a pen and pencil to capture a moment, Dickerson believes that taking pictures and videos to capture a moment is far more convenient. I agree with this Dickerson’s point of view because I remember when emails were just starting to become popular within society. Instead of writing letters to everyone – which would take days, sometimes weeks – I could send an email and get a response within the same day. So because of the improvement in technology, it is more convenient for journalists and reporters to use social media instead of using paper and pencil....

After reading this article it gives you many ideas on how to learn to lead while using emotional intelligence. The stories of business’s and CEO’s that use this seem to be very successful. High Times in the Workplace

...workplace is growing rapidly (Fisher, 2011). As employees everywhere are faced with this dilemma, many are looking at ways to address, prevent, and reduce its impact on operations and employee productivity. Positivity Results of Workplace Drug Tests It has been shown that over the last 25 years, drug use among American workers has steadily declined. The Quest Diagnostics Drug Testing Index analysis examined over 125 million urine drug tests as a service for government and private employers from 1988 to 2012. This examined the positivity rates for employers across the United States workforce in both the public and private sector. Since 1988, the positivity rate for the combined U.S. Workforce declined 74% from 13.6% in 1988 to 3.5% in 2012. This result is encouraging for employers; however, the study also revealed some findings that are cause for concern. The positivity rates for amphetamines and methamphetamines have more than tripled over the last decade. As of 2012, this was at its highest level since 1997. Also concerning is that the positivity rates for prescription opiates have increased over the last decade. This can be correlated to rising prescription trends nationally (“Drug Use Among American Workers declined 75% Over Past 25 years”, 2013). These positivity rates should be a call to employers that they must be cognizant of prescription drug abuse as well as illicit drug use among their employees, as both can pose many...

Most people try to stay positive thinking that it would help their chances of surviving. Ehrenreich's position on the subject was that emotions had no effect on cancer and that positivity would not prolong your life. Positivity will not help the state of patients cancer, support groups may help the patient’s state of mind but it does not have an effect on the biological aspects of the disease and if it is forced upon patients it is just another burden on the long existing...

The Poem Melancholia By Kat Strange

...“Melancholia” by Kat Strange The poem “Melancholia” by Kat Strange is a perfect depiction of a girl who views all of her positive and negative moments in her life. At first, it mentions how her youth was a playful time, but then the poem continues with little positivity and a lot of melancholy. When she views her life she is overwhelmed by the amount anguish and grief that she becomes depressed. The author doesn't know whether to feel happy or sad so she's initially in a type of limbo that throughout the poem ends up in sadness. She suffers from multiple incidents like moving houses, losing friends, and many insults. Overall Kat Strange uses personification, repetition, and asyndeton to portray that through all the positivity there will be moments of depression. The first type of figurative language Kat Strange uses is a personification, personification helps the reader understand her heartbreak and gives an idea to how she feels. In”Melancholia” Kat Strange says “Friendship shaken in an earthquake of disappointment” (“Melancholia” 14). The author personifies her friendship to show how...

...INTRODUCTION POSITIVITY Positivity is freely available to us to improve and bless our lives. Although positive thinking is part of this message, the concept of positivity is far more powerful and profound than just thought. The joy, the wonder, the sparkle, the hope, and the inspiration of positivity will change your life for the better. And we all need it! Stress and bad news abounds. Our beautiful world seems on the edge of disastrous global warming, ceaseless wars and economic peril. Don't look to newscasters for loving or charitable words. Sensationalism and hatemongering seem to be the new norm. We know that love, social cooperation and all the positive emotions do make us feel good, so why aren't we all living in blissful happiness? As Fredrickson points out, positivity is more fleeting and transient than negativity. Negative emotions have their root in the fight and flight syndrome, necessary when we face danger but producing chronic stress when continuously activated by the problems of modern life. The skill we must learn is to actively let go of our negative reactions as soon as possible and reach out to positive emotions. That may mean putting aside, as soon as possible, our frustration, anger, blame, bitterness and depression and actively focusing on the positive side of life. The HeartMath skill of breathing peace and love into the heart, is extremely helpful in making this transition. Fredrickson describes the "positively ratio" as the "amount of your heartfelt...

Life Is Good

...slogan, Life is Good. This positivity ultimately led to their company’s success. The brothers faced difficulties for the first several years as success eluded them. As a last ditch effort they slapped their ‘Life is Good’ slogan on some t-shirts and attempted to peddle them at a local market. To their surprise, the shirts were an instant hit. It quickly became evident that the positivity of the simple slogan is something to which people from all walks of life can relate. The story of the Jacobs brothers and ‘Life is Good’ relates to organizational behavior in several ways. Specifically, I noticed that the brothers’ personality traits likely contributed to their eventual success. They both possess high internal locus of control believing that they control their own destiny. In the article, Bert says, “We get to choose at some level what we do with our lives.” The brothers recognize that their own choices and actions define their futures. They also show high levels of self-efficacy. They feel that they are capable of making their company successful. When times were hard and the company was not thriving they continued to believe that with the right product and plenty of effort they would succeed – and they did! Creativity is another personality trait the Jacobs brothers both possess. Their creativity enabled them to design and market a product that is now cherished by many. To me, the article serves as a reminder that with positivity and perseverance great things...
