Poster Reflective Journal
When making group and creating the poster, I have a chance to understand more deeply the application of the theories that I have learned in this subject, both strategy and leadership.
Firstly, through our poster making process, I realized how important leadership is in a group’s achievement. The leader would be the one who connects all followers, encourages them to exchange ideas, figures out solution to problems and reach the shared target. Unfortunately, in my group, no one wanted to take that responsibilty, because no one wanted to be hated for pushing other members to work harder. Consequently, we worked not very effectively, some people usually just waited for others to do everything. At that time, I relized that leadership is a talent that not everybody possesses, and also a skill that we have to practice. A good leader, first and foremost, should know how to inspire and motivate followers.
Secondly, at the workshop, when I saw the posters of 21 other groups, listened to lecturer’s comments and made a self reflection, I have learned three valuable lessons.
The first is internal strengths and competitive advantages are two different concepts. While the former should be of the company itself, the latter belongs to the product. For instance, the company’s strengths can be its innovative team, which helps it continuosly improve the products; or its marketing expertise, with effective strategies and efficient tactics to approach potential customers. Whereas, a competitive advantage can be the advanced technology of a product, or the unprecedented experience of a service that cannot be provided by other competitors in the market.
The second is when a company choose a strategy to implement, it can only be or cost strategy or differentiation strategy, can not be both of them. The reason is simple, when a company tries to reduce the

Vulnerable People in the Workplace

...Vulnerable People in the Workplace Vulnerable People in the Workplace Paper Watson is a Nursing theorist who recognizes nursing as the art of caring and the need to treat each patient holistically (Watson, 2007). Leininger is another Nursing theorist who realized caring is unique and the core of nursing. According to Leininger’s Cultural Care Theory as cited by Maier-Lorentz (2008), on Transcultural Nursing, nurses need to be aware of various cultures and how to use this knowledge in their daily practice (Maier-Lorentz, 2008). Leininger’s Cultural Care Theory addresses the need for cultural competency in health care. Communication with a patient can be affected by a patient’s culture. In addition, nurses need to avoid ethnocentric bias. In an effort to achieve a holistic approach to health care one must have an understanding of cultural factors that may affect proposed health care interventions. Leininger’s Cultural Care Theory can be hardwired with Watson’s Theory of Human Care to help achieve holistic care of the patient (Leininger & McFarland, 2002). In this paper I will discuss the design of a teaching program at my workplace to help raise awareness about vulnerable populations. According to De Chesney and Anderson (2008), issues with vulnerability can apply to population groups or individual people. De Chesney and Anderson (2008) discuss vulnerable populations that are at higher risk for health issues related to socioeconomic status, cultural issues, or environmental...

...Leventi, 423-429 MIBES 2009 - Poster 423 The impacts of the implementation of International Accounting Standards Theodosia Leventi Department of Business Administration, T.E.I. of Larissa, Greece leventi@teilar.gr Abstract This paper belongs to the category of literature review. In this descriptive article we take a brief look at the impacts of the implementation of International Accounting Standards. The continued globalization of business has led to the development of internationally applicable standards and codes of practice. The remarkable expansion of international trade and business, the international co-operation among countries and the breaking down of national barriers led to new challenges and new problems too. Problems in the analysis and comparison of financial reports and differences in auditing and taxation practices among countries made necessary the application of International Accounting Standards. Harmonization of this practice in order to get closer to a universal accounting language is affected by many factors such as: economic, financial, social, legal, cultural, political and others. Moreover, the level of preparedness for each country is significantly associated with many other factors. This process, as every new measure, had both positive and negative effects. So, this study highlights the advantages and disadvantages of adopting a uniform set of International Accounting Standards worldwide and also examines their volatility effects...

Reflective

...TOPIC: Reflective essay on the teaching session and facilitating workplace learning module. INTRODUCTION As a requirement for the pre-registration program in Nilai University, I have to take Facilitating Workplace learning module. The aim of this module is to enable me to become a better facilitator in the future. Having experiences from my previous clinical posting, I realized that nursing profession is not only about patient’s bedside care, but also workplace improvement by facilitating others for example students, colleagues and patient health teaching. Gopee (2011) defined facilitating learning is that the learner becomes aware that they should be the originator of their thinking, meaning to say the learner should take more control of their learning instead of passively receive information from the teacher. In addition, facilitating learning is usually form part of healthcare’s professional code, as mentioned in code of practice by Nursing Midwifery Council (2008) that registered nurse must be willing to share their experiences and skills for the good of their colleagues and must facilitate student and others to develop their competent. In order to fulfill this subject, I have two main parts to complete. First, a plan for facilitating a learning session applied all the relevant theories that have been lecturing, and the second part, I am going to write here is a reflective essay using Gibb’s (1988) reflective cycle on what I have learn from this module and my learning...

Reflective Journal Analysis

...After reading my first reflective journal, it has allowed me to stop and think how far we have already come working with the men at our shelter. On our first day we encounter a few rough patches, we were required to stay in a hot room for about 45 minutes before someone showed up to give us some direction. We were told to come out to the common area to talk to the guys, so we sat there for about another 45 minutes until anyone was able to approach us. After a quick introduction some of the guys approached us and talked about some of the concerns they had, some of them thought we were there to do health assessment and provide care, but at time there is still some confusion about why we are there. Since the beginning I have been unsure of what we were going to be doing, and how we were going to be able to interact with the guys. I had no idea what kind of services I was going to be able to perform, or what my role was supposed to be for a community health nurse at the shelter. I struggle with some thoughts in my head on how was I going to be open-minded and be non judgmental during my time...

Concept Analysis Competency

...Competency: Analysis of the Concept Michelle Trigg University of South Alabama Abstract Understanding the nature and meaning of nursing competency is the initial step in having an unambiguous definition of its practice. All healthcare professionals, including nurses, may only prove to be proficient in their capabilities if they are able to perform comprehensive assessments related to the provision and maintenance of safe and efficient care, the protection of all members of the general public, and the undertaking of all necessary actions in order to preserve the nursing profession. Any and all standards that are established, based on such a perspective, must be adhered to in practice and for the purpose of nursing evaluation. This paper will evaluate and explore the concept of competency and the ways in which the nursing profession integrates the many aspects of competency. Keywords: competence, competency, concept analysis Competency: Analysis of the Concept The concept of competency in nursing is a professional regulation and is extremely important to patient safety and outcomes. In the past, competency in nursing focused on evaluating clinical skills, and not the actual ability(ies) or comprehension of the science behind them (Allen et al., 2008). Nurse competency is a requirement in the clinical setting, and outlines the dimensions...
