Poster 3: The Kitchen is the Key to Victory.

This picture depicts a lady in a kitchen setting. There is an image of a large golden key instead of the word Key. This has more visual impact than using the word, it draws the eye of the viewer and makes them think more about the message being put across. The lady in the picture has a large saucepan in her hands which has steam coming out of it. There is a large aga style range behind her. The saucepan lid is on and the viewer cannot see what is in it. This allows the viewers imagination to create images of all sorts of delicious contents, in the hope of that it creates thoughts of alternative meals to bread. The words The Kitchen is the Key to Victory are in golden letters to give a sense of the richness and prosperity that are to be associated with victory. Below these words are the words Eat Less Bread. These are in red for more impact and to get the message across, it is an instruction, not a request. This poster is one of the many posters which were used during rationing, it is designed to involve the viewer so that every citizen feels that they can help in the War effort, they don’t have to be fighting on the front line or working in the factories making weapons, tanks or planes. It makes the housewife’s left behind feel that they have a huge part to play in the War effort which will then drive them to economise helping to alleviate the pressure on the Government to feed the population.

Genre Awareness

...Abstract In this paper I will be talking about three different movie posters of the American War genre. First I will describe where I found the movie posters, and then I will state the results of the visual elements. Then I will analyze, and critique the results of the findings. Introduction When someone walks along the hallway of a movie theater, they will see a series of movie posters which are there to advertise the movie. Humans are known to act on their first impression, and this is important in advertising because it will either attract or defer a potential viewer. Most people have a favorite movie genre, so they’re more inclined to watch a movie that appears to fit under their genre. Through the movie posters a patriotic theme is given off, which will invite in the intended audience. American War movies have very similar posters, although they will have different stories. Today I will be talking about three different movie posters of the American war genre: “American Sniper” (See Fig.1), “Fury” (See Fig.2), and “Lone Survivor” (See Fig. 3). The main purpose of this report is to find and analyze the visuals of the three movie posters. Methodology In order to try and test my hypothesis, I will need to find material that will allow me to gather the appropriate information. I am going to use the internet to find three movie posters of the same genre, and that genre is American war movies. First I will search on google images for American War...

...grade will “erase” the previous pencil grade). Barring any late or other penalties, you have the chance to improve the grade on this project, if you choose to revise it for the portfolio. The Assignment and Rationale: For this project, you are required to find three legitimate, same-genre movie posters from the last decade and write a report revealing your genre awareness findings and conclusions about both the stability and flexibility of the movie genre represented in these three posters. You may choose the movie genre, and you may find that you’re working with a multi-hyphenated genre (e.g., thriller-crime-drama). This is fine, as long as you can find three movie posters that represent this particular genre. However, I advise you to not go too obscure in your choices, as this might limit or make difficult your selection, and I also request you stay away from choosing posters for movies already clearly linked (e.g., sequels, trilogies). I encourage you to consider the country of origin for the movies and posters, as this will alter/change the content of the poster. For the sake of uniformity, please use the U.S./English version of a movie poster. The movie poster functions as a shorthand version of all that the movie is trying to represent or...

Poster Analysis

...on one point with intent of drawing the audience’s attention. Everyone has a different way to connect his vision to the audience. Unlike the racism propaganda poster from World War II, which depicted the enemy as evil animals, posters made for the current war in Afghanistan use emotional pictures and subliminal messages through text to either promote the war or to criticize America’s presence in Afghanistan. A propaganda poster titled, It Can Happen Here, was written by Lars Hasvoll Bakke in early 2006 and was printed in the Politico Magazine later that year. The poster did not appear in any other reputable magazines; but, it is available online for purchase. By using multiple layers of text along with vivid, destructive colors, Bakke is able to push his personal opinion of the war in Afghanistan. In an attempt to better connect with the audience on an emotional level, Bakke uses the image and powerful words to reach out to the audience. The front plane of the image, which first draws the reader’s attention, depicts a destroyed home missing the majority of the sides and completely missing the roof. Beside the house can be seen an old style car that has also been destroyed with rubble all around. The color used for the sky is a mixture of orange and yellow. Above the house is the largest text used on the poster, which reads, “IT CAN HAPPEN HERE!” in bold red letters. Below the house, more text can be seen written in smaller font. The text used here, SOMEONE COULD DO...

To that formaldehyde (0.3 mol as 37%) and a solution of resorcinol/ M-Cresol (0.1 mol) in 10 mL DMF were added simultaneously drop wise giving a clear solution and was stirred for 1 h. The mixture was refluxed in microwave oven using irradiation of 2.46 GHz at 80±2ºC for 50s until a viscous solution was obtained with the formation of a hard mass of resin. The colour of resultant resin is red-brown. Then sealed and cured at 70-75ºC for 12 h stored in polyethylene bottle. As carboxylic acid groups normally are decomposed above 100ºC, the resin was cured below 90ºC. The dry resin sample free from impurities was directly examined for FTIR, SEM, and elemental analysis..To convert the FAR and FAM resin samples in H+ form, the resulting hard mass was crushed to 20+30 or -60 +100 BSS mesh size as needed. ...For my Media AS Coursework I decided to choose brief one from the options we were given. I then further decided to choose task one and two following this. I decided to create a 3-minute film opening and a 3 page A4 information booklet about the opening sequence. I decided to choose these because I felt that they would enable me to create my best work. I wanted to base my film around a target audience of young teen around 12+ as I knew that the basis of the film I was going for was a bit harder to understand for younger generations. Before I decided to create anything I first carried out some research. Firstly, I watched other sporting films such as ‘Forever Stronger’ and ‘Goal II’ as I knew that my film would be based around sport. I also contacted a man named Jimmy Gittings. Jimmy is a former Rugby League player who suffered a terrible injury which ended his career. He speaks openly about life after his injury and works for the charity ‘State of Mind’. I felt talking to him personally would enable more knowledge on the subject of depression in sport. I also looked at published booklets such as 40/20 Magazine and league weekly to get an understanding of how my designs are supposed to look. I felt that this information was key so that I could stick to the original codes of conventions of a proper magazine. The first task that I chose was to create a 3-minute film opening sequence. I decided to follow the brief and base my film around ‘a secret’. That secret obviously being that...

Chemical energy is stored inside a substance or object until it is involved in a chemical reaction. Our bodies use chemical energy to perform daily functions. Cooking is a good example of a chemical reaction that releases chemical energy. Batteries and explosives are other examples of objects that contain stored chemical energy. There are six basic types of chemical reactions: combustion, synthesis, single displacement, decomposition, double displacement, and acid-base. During combustion, chemical energy in the form of heat is released when oxygen combines with other substances to form water and carbon dioxide. Movie Poster Review

...Soila English 102 28 February 2015 Movie Poster Comparing Analysis Any reader who comes across the two posters gets an immediate sense that it is an advertisement (purpose) of western movies (genre). These posters are intended to promote to action packed movies: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly and A Fistful of Dollars. This is clearly portrayed by the images of the cast whose dress code is western where cowboy hats and natural beards are evident. In addition the use of bold western font and the color selection, particularly of sunset-like orange and brown, makes it so western. More revealing, is the prominence of the guns. Clint Eastwood prominently occupies the central portion of the poster. In the poster on the left (Good, Bad, and Ugly), he is smack in the center. On the poster on the right he dominates at least two thirds of the poster. On the poster on the left, the reader will notice scenes of action casting heated gun battles and on the forefront are three men standing in confrontational postures. These features would quickly capture the interest of an audience that is interested in western movies (genre) that is also interested in real action, energy, or those with a fascination for violence (logos). This action and energy is suggested by the mean faces and guns (one each per poster). The two posters are engaging in that they equally draw the reader who is interested in action to look further into the background and see further portrayal of action. Facial...
