CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTRODUCTION
One of the subjects offered in primary school is science. At secondary lever and beyond, this subject is divided in to three main areas, namely, biology, chemistry, and physics. All these three are interrelated since they are all a human attempt to explore the universe and its contents by establishing facts through experiments and observation. Now, since Physics involves the study of matter and its relation to energy, then the study must involve experiments, making observations, analysis, measurements, explanations, predictions, classifying, replication, hypothesizing and so on. Through these, the learning of physics becomes even more interesting to the learners and therefore the need for teaching –learning resource.
1.1BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Magnetic Effect of an Electric Current is a form two topic that basically deals with magnetism and effect of current. This project involved the students in making the model so that by the end of the day the learner was involved in the learning process.
It involved the use of current emanating from dry cells or a power source and then a set up was made. The key thing here was that the learner s was able to visualize the effect when current flowed in one direction and in anti-direction. When current flowed in one direction, the foils attracted one another but when it flowed in opposite directions, then the foils repelled one another.
1.2 JUSTIFICATION OF THE PROJECT

Magnetic Effect of an Electric Current is one topic that requires hands-on experience on the side of the learner. It is a topic that required the teacher to provide all the necessary materials for the success of the learners. The teacher needed not to explain the theory part of it but also the practical and so there was need to make learners see the effect of magnets on electric currents.
Due to the lack of the model in the physics laboratory, it led me to come up with this project that facilitated the teaching and learning of Physics. In fact, the project was used to illustrate current into and out of a conductor. This project developed critical thinking in learners and eventually promoted potential performance.

1.3 IMPORTANCE OF THE PROJECT 1) The project developed scientific skills of the learner hence improved performance. 2) The project stimulated learners’ interest in learning Physics. 3) The project developed critical thinking of learners. 4) The project stimulated learners’ visualization of the Flemings’ left hand rule. 5) The project motivated learners towards learning Physics since the model was portable and visible to all learners. 6) The model was good for stimulating hands-on experience especially on the side of the learner. 7) The project was also very vital during revision. 1.4 OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT
The objectives of the project were; * To assist the learner to know how to connect dry cells in series. * To assist the learner to explain force between parallel conductors carrying current. * To assist the learner to explain current into and out of a field. * To assist the learner to visualize Flemings’ left hand rule (motor rule.)

CHAPTER TWO 2.0 PROJECT DESCRIPTION It was observed that when a compass was brought near a current carrying conductor, the needle of the compass got deflected because of flow of electricity. This showed that electric current produced a magnetic effect. A current carrying straight conductor has magnetic field in the form of concentric circles around it. This project was based on Magnetic Effect of An Electric Current. It incorporated the idea that when current is induced in a circuit, then some magnetism comes into being and therefore this was the bone of contention. From this idea then the learner was required to borrow from Flemings and make the necessary observations. This project also relied greatly on readily available materials within the school compound like the stands and bosses from the school laboratory.

CHAPTER THREE
3.0 PROJECT DESIGN
Below were the steps that were undertaken in the construction of the project; 1) Bought the dry cells, aluminum foil and connecting wires. 2) Placed the dry cells each in a dry cell holder and then connected them in series to the rheostat or else used a power source. 3) Cut two thin aluminum foils of about 1cm thick and length 60cm. 4) Ensured that there was a gap of around 50 cm between the bosses of each stand so that the aluminum foils were freely suspended and gave a room for attraction or repulsion. 5) Tied the aluminum foils between the bosses using the grips. 6) Connected the wires to the foils such that current flowed in the same direction and then afterwards changed the direction. 7) Switched on (when using the power source, we set the voltage to around 6v and then switched on.)

CHAPTER FOUR 4.0 USE OF THE PROJECT * The project was very instrumental to help the learners visualize magnetism as a result of current. * The project also assisted the learners to visualize the direction of magnetic field due to current in a conductor. * The project was also used to boost learners’ understanding of the Flemings’ Left Hand Rule. * The project was also very key to assist the learners understand concept of current into and out of a conductor carrying current. * The project also assisted the learners to see the deflection of a compass. * The project made learning more real and reduced boredom on theoretical work. * The project motivated the learners since they developed scientific skills.

CHAPTER FIVE 5.0 PROJECT EVALUATION By the end of the project, the learners were able to; * know how to connect dry cells in series. * explain force between parallel conductors carrying current. * explain current into and out of a field. * visualize Fleming’s left hand rule (motor rule). 5.1 RECOMMENDATION Although the project gave out some positive results, it is very crucial to state some ways that can lead to better results. Therefore, the project can be improved by; * Using thinner connecting wires to help reduce resistance * Using thinner aluminum foils of about 0.5cm width reduce in weight when attracting or repelling.
