...inside, I noticed that it is shaped like a fish. During Jesus’ time, Christians used the Greek word for “fish” as an acronym for Jesus Christ God’s Son, Savior. The crucifix that hangs above the altar looked like a “space Jesus” to me, but I’m sure that doesn’t really have a meaning. The people participating in this ritual believe that there is one God. He is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit: The Trinity. They believe that He is the creator of all things visible and invisible. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are one and the same divine being. They are far beyond what we can conceive as humans. Catholics believe that the Son is begotten by the Father, and the Holy Spirit is begotten by the Son. To start off the ritual, everyone stands and the procession begins. There are usually two or three servers; they enter first, one carrying the cross, then the one or two lectors and the priest and/or deacon follow. The priest begins with the sign of the cross that everyone does with him, then he says a greeting, and then the congregation states the act of penitence and the priest concludes it with a prayer of absolution. Next is the kyrie eleison, which is Greek for “Lord have mercy.” It is either said or sung, followed by the Gloria. The liturgy of the word is next. That consists of the first reading, usually from the Old Testament, the responsorial psalm is either read or sung and the second reading is usually from the New Testament. The readings are meant to reflect...

Islam - the World Power of the Future?

...ISLAM - THE WORLD POWER OF THE FUTURE? Table of Contents In the 19th century Islam had virtually disappeared from view in Europe and America. Only a few Westerners in distant colonies had been exposed to Muslims. Some romantic tales about the Turkish wars survived. However, the rapid technological developments in the West had by-passed the Islamic peoples, making them appear insignificant. But not much time has passed since Europe was last in danger of being overrun by Islam. In the year 1453 Constantinople, the Eastern bulwark of Christianity, was captured by the Ottomans. Later in 1529 and again in 1683 the Turks stood at the gates of Vienna. The struggle to free Belgrade lasted almost 200 years; and it was only a short time before the First World War when the last Balkan countries were able to shake off the Islamic Turkish yoke. For 600 years Islam and Christianity have wrestled with each other in that area. Many Christians have forgotten that Syria and North Africa were once the heartland of the Christian world! But during the first Islamic invasions in the years AD 632 to 732 they were overrun and fell under Arab control. Muslim armies swept into Western Europe and stood no more than 200 kilometres south of Paris, and near Geneva, too. If Charles Martel had not stood firm we would likely all be Muslims today! Nietzsche, the atheist, ventured to say sarcastically, "The greatest mistake in world history was the defeat of the Arabs at Tours and Poitiers." The third great...

Isaac The Miracle Child Research Paper

...Isaac, the miracle child, born to Abraham and Sarah in their old age as a gift by God to Abraham to help to make his relatives and descendants a great nation. Three lords (thought to be the father, the son and the Holy Spirit) visited Abraham and told him in a year he would have a son. In normal circumstances, this would seem impossible because Sarah was 90 years old and Abraham was 100! Sarah (Abraham’s wife) had been eavesdropping on the lords and Abraham, and thought that they were once again teasing her by getting her hopes up with the thought of her being able to have a child of her own. God had kept his promise because Abraham had done what god had asked of him, and named the baby Isaac, meaning “he laughs. When Isaac was very young...

...VOCATION * Latin word “vocare” * To summon * To call someone over * About GOD calling a person to fulfil specific missions DISCERNING ONE’S CALLING * At certain times, many of us have a feeling of incompleteness and restlessness. Searching for meaning is a part of being human. It is a persistent longing that calls for some eventual resolution. * GOD in His goodness created everything out of love. God created us with the desire and capacity to receive Him. Our natural thirst for fullness is found only in God. THE MEANING OF OUR CALLING * The one who calls is GOD Vocation speaks about the one called but not so much of the One who calls – GOD. We are called by GOD to be holy, and be holy ourselves. * We share a common Christian vocation that is rooted in baptism From the moment we are baptized, GOD offeredus a new life with Christ through the spirit. Our parents and godparents promised to help us along the path of holiness. * We share this call with others GOD willed to call all people to be holy and to save them not just as individuals but rather as members of the community. We are called to be part of the Body of Christ so we can help and inspire each other in holiness. THINGS TO CONSIDER IN DISCERNING A CALL * Discern Discernment is all about articulating your thoughts and feelings about choices in life that will enlighten you on the path you want to take. SOME OF YOU READING THIS ARE BEING CALLED BY GOD I also saw a wall holding back this enormous flood of souls. They are being held back, waiting. There are people out there, reading this right now, who God is calling. He is calling them to break down the wall. People who have always thought, not me I'm too shy. Not me I don't have the right personality. Moses was like that. HE IS GIVING YOU IDEAS--EVEN RIGHT NOW The Lord is giving these people ideas, God inspired ideas that will reach masses of people. The ideas may seem small, but they are not small. There are people who will live their lives through, and take their last breath, having never uttered the idea that God put on their heart. They will stand before their God and be made aware of what He had entrusted them and they hid it because they were afraid. Now is the time to stand up to the spirit of fear that speaks to you in the first person. "I'm just", "I couldn't", "How could I"?, "but I" Those are not your own thoughts, but those of the enemy of all righteousness. OTHERS ARE INTERCESSORS--BUT THERE IS MORE There are others in the body of Christ, reading this right now, who are intercessors. Because they have been faithful, God is calling them into...
