Born and raised in Port-au Prince, Haiti along with eight siblings. On January 10, 2010, my family was a victim of a destructive earthquake, resulting in my parents losing their business, home and all their income. We suffered from economic difficulties and my parents were no longer able to provide for us. Consequently, we departed to the U.S. to find a better life and live “the American dream.”
The memory of this event increases my drive for success. But things weren’t much easier in the U.S, my parents still struggled to provide for a household of 7, with minimum wages paying jobs, barely making ends meet every month. I hope to pursue a higher education to aid my family and the community. As the youngest child, more opportunities are available for me to succeed than my other siblings, therefore, I’m ambitious to reach my goals and create a future for myself. …show more content…
These two years are to help me prepare for the courses that lead to acquiring the Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) degree. But there’s always a financial barrier, the total cost of attendance for a year is 29,700. I’ve received a presidential scholarship for 12,000 dollars from Barry for my outstanding academics and 8,000 from raise.me, therefore, I will be 9,700 in debt every year. Receiving this scholarship would cover the remaining cost of my tuition and help me pursue my dreams on furthering my education. l want a career that can evolve me into an exceptional person and strives to change the

...UNDERSTANDING EVIDENCE - BASED NURSING | Evidence-based Literature Search and Review on Interruptions during Drug Rounds | Cohort: March 2010 | | Student ID: | | Word count: 3292 Additional Module 1 | It is generally accepted that evidence-based practice (EBP) is the way forward in contemporary nursing. It provides the rationale behind nursing practice and allows for the delivery of optimal nursing care. Evidence-Based Nursing (EBN) involves the process of researching and implementing proven evidence in providing better patient care and is crucial as the role of the nurse is ever expanding (Banning, 2005). This essay will demonstrate that as a student nurse, the author has gained the necessary skills to conduct an evidence-based literature search and review and implement that knowledge into practice. Starting with a brief discussion on EBN it will go on to identify a suitable research question. During a placement on a medical ward the author noticed that nurses experienced many interruptions whilst conducting medication rounds and this review will consider ways to minimise interruptions and thus improve patient safety. Using the PICO acronym a suitable research question was formulated, ‘do interruptions during medication rounds increase the drugs administration errors made by nurses?’ A short description of the literature search is given and a summary of findings is presented in tabular form. Five original articles were selected and one chosen to critically...

...INCREASING SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM EFFICIENCY 1 Increasing Efficiency in a Community College Scholarship Program Margit Brumbaugh Concordia University Portland An Action Research Proposal/Report Presented to The Graduate Program in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements For the Degree of Masters in Education/Educational Leadership Concordia University Portland 2011 INCREASING SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM EFFICIENCY 2 Abstract This action research was designed to increase the efficiency of a community college scholarship program. The research developed in response to a desire to increase numbers of scholarship applications from students and to streamline the selection and financial reconciliation processes at the research site. The literature search revealed these aims to be common among community college scholarship programs nationwide. Data was gathered through surveys, interviews, and observations. Data analysis suggests that passive information on the part of colleges, lack of student confidence in qualifications, and lack of student awareness of the differences in scholarship criteria are significant contributing factors leading to low rates of application. Data related to recipient selection processes show that committee training, the use of multiple reviewers, and the use of consistently-applied scoring rubrics increase selection efficiency. Results suggest further research possibilities to determine the extent to which various scholarship marketing strategies, and the manner...

...ork2012 - 2013 Catalog A Message from the President “Sullivan University is truly a unique and student success focused institution.” I have shared that statement with numerous groups and it simply summarizes my basic philosophy of what Sullivan is all about. When I say that Sullivan is “student success focused,” I feel as President that I owe a definition of this statement to all who are considering Sullivan University. First, Sullivan is unique among institutions of higher education with its innovative, career-first curriculum. You can earn a career diploma or certificate in a year or less and then accept employment while still being able to complete your associate, bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree by attending during the day, evenings, weekends, or online. Business and industry do not expand or hire new employees only in May or June each year. Yet most institutions of higher education operate on a nine-month school year with almost everyone graduating in May. We remained focused on your success and education, and continue to offer our students the opportunity to begin classes or to graduate four times a year with our flexible, year-round full-time schedule of classes. If you really want to attend a school where your needs (your real needs) come first, consider Sullivan University. I believe we can help you exceed your expectations. Since words cannot fully describe the atmosphere at Sullivan University, please accept my personal invitation to visit and experience...

...Assessment & Evaluation in Higher Education, Vol. 28, No. 5, October 2003 In Other (People’s) Words: plagiarism by university students—literature and lessons CHRIS PARK, The Graduate School, Lancaster University, Lancaster, UK ABSTRACT This paper reviews the literature on plagiarism by students, much of it based on North American experience, to discover what lessons it holds for institutional policy and practice within institutions of higher education in the UK. It explores seven themes: the meaning and context of plagiarism, the nature of plagiarism by students, how do students perceive plagiarism, how big a problem is student plagiarism, why do students cheat, what challenges are posed by digital plagiarism and is there a need to promote academic integrity? It is concluded that plagiarism is doubtless common and getting more so (particularly with increased access to digital sources, including the Internet), that there are multiple reasons why students plagiarise and that students often rationalise their cheating behaviour and downplay the importance of plagiarism by themselves and their peers. It is also concluded that there is a growing need for UK institutions to develop cohesive frameworks for dealing with student plagiarism that are based on prevention supported by robust detection and penalty systems that are transparent and applied consistently. Introduction Much has been written on the theme of plagiarism by students, particularly in the context of North...

...section Vi essay forms Many people use the term “essay” to mean any paper written for a class. In actuality, there are many different types of essays, each of which has a unique purpose, form, and style. We call these different types of essays “modes of discourse,” and they include expository, persuasive, and comparecontrast essays to name just a few. This section of the Guide has a dual purpose. First, various types of essays are described and suggestions are included about how to approach each particular type of writing. Second, the sample essays are good tools for you to see how these different essays look in their final form. These are not templates (no essay can be a carbon copy of another even in form), but they will give you a good idea of what a final piece of writing for each mode of discourse looks like. It would be advantageous to critically analyze the form and content of each sample against the instruction for how to write each type of essay. chapter 21 expository essays Jennifer propp An expository essay explains something using facts rather than opinions. The purpose of this type of essay is to inform an audience about a subject. It is not intended to persuade or present an argument of any kind. Writing this type of essay is a good way to learn about all the different perspectives on a topic. Many students use the expository essay to explore a variety of topics, and do so in a wide range of formats, including “process” and “definition”...
