Barack Hussein Obama II, the first African-American president of the United States of America was born in the State of Hawaii where he grew up. Barack Obama was born to a white American mother, Ann Dunham, and a black Kenyan father, Barack Obama Sr., who were both young college students at the University of Hawaii. When his father left for Harvard, she and Barack stayed behind, and his parents eventually divorced. Barack's mother remarried an Indonesian oil manager and moved to Jakarta when Barack was six. He later recounted Indonesia as simultaneously lush and a harrowing exposure to tropical poverty. He returned to Hawaii, His grandparents raised him up from a humble background. In 2007 when then Senator Barack Obama announced his run for the presidency of the United States, the country was experiencing great turmoil and people were ready for a change in leadership. No matter what political party you held, it appeared to be an overwhelming sentiment that people were looking for a shift in direction, especially relating to the bad economical positions a lot of Americans had found themselves in. The presidency of Obama began on 20th January in the year 2009 after he was sworn in as the 44th president of United States of America. Before unveiling his ambition of vying for the top seat, Barack Obama was the Illinois senator in United States. Obama’s presidency came about as a result of succeeding President George Bush.

Bush’s presidency was characterized by a series of severe terrorist attacks. Obama’s presidency had national security as his main objective. Obama’s vision is to improve the national security of the Americans as well as other continents as evident in the speech he delivered at the National Archives.
