Marriage is the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law. Nonetheless I feel that marriage should not be limited to couples of opposite sex since it is just as equally possible for people of the same gender to fall in love with each other. Gay marriage is frowned upon by many religions like Christianity and Catholicism which both consider gay marriage a sin.
Although opinions on the topic vary throughout the country, nine states have already legalized same-sex marriage, all of which include Connecticut, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Washington and Vermont; three of which became legalized as a result of popular vote. The Full Faith and credit clause is a section in the United States Constitution which conditions that states must respect the "public acts, records, and judicial proceedings of every other state", marriage is of course protected by this clause, however this does not apply to same-sex marriage because of the Defense of Marriage act. Same-sex marriage is a personal choice that in no way harms society therefore should not be discriminated against. Marriage is a special union and a way of expressing to one’s companion how much you love them and that you are willing to spend a lifetime together with them, whether the is a couple of opposite sex or same sex should not matter.
In conclusion same-sex marriage will continue to be debated topic for years to come. I do however hope that one day people come to their senses and realize that society is changing and there is nothing wrong with change. Many things may also improve in our country as a result, for example fewer divorce rates, an increase in adoptions as gay couples of course cannot pro-create. It is my wish that one day there will be equality in the United States so that
