Proctor plays a very important role through the whole play, and especially my scene. Proctor is in a way fearful in this courtroom. He is fearful that the judges won’t see what is right, and they will believe Abigail and all of her trickery and lies. He is very concerned through the whole scene, and sometimes is outraged. He is telling the truth that that the girls are lying, but nobody wants to believe him, and his word basically isn’t getting through to anyone, so his emotions start to wear down because everyone is opposing his views. When you have everyone against you, you start to become quieter and less opinionated. But, he also starts to feel remorse for his sin, and he has to tell of his sins. He is concerned that his wife is going be hung, and in a way, he feels it is his fault. Abigail wants to be with Proctor because she feels that the affair she had with him means that there is a lot of love between them, and Proctor knows that she wants to get rid of Goody Proctor and feels it is all his fault. Proctor’s main motivation is prove that Abigail is making this all up so he can prove his wife innocent. He also just wants his wife back because he knows that she is innocent. The thoughts going through Proctor’s head are most likely about his affair, and how is one sin could indirectly kill his wife. He is also probably thinking about how stupid the whole town is that they can’t see past the lies of the afflicted girls. Proctors dominant emotions are sadness, remorse, anger, and disappointed. He is sad that nobody believes him, and he basically is the cause of hi wife being accused because of his affair. He is angry that nobody believes him, and they can’t see the obvious state of mind that the girls are in, which is crazy. He is disappointed in the judges for being so biased and not wanting to see the truth.
The acting choices I made were obvious because of his emotions. He is most of the time mad, and sometimes remorseful. I choose to use my tone of voices to indicate emotions, and volume levels. I also choose to use hand gestures to get my point across.
