Day in and day out, users rely on the network to do their jobs well. Network uptime is crucial to the company’s operation and is becoming even more important as technology advances. Network infrastructure refers to the grouping of physical hardware and logical components which are needed to provide a number of features for the network, such as connectivity, routing and switching capabilities, network security, and access control. The physical infrastructure of the network refers to the physical design of the network together with the hardware components. The logical infrastructure of the network consists of all the software components required to enable connectivity between devices, and to provide network security. The network's logical infrastructure consists of software products and networking protocols and services. At a minimum, the network infrastructure should be capable of high availability to the three 9s (99.9%) of uptime. This equates to 8.76 hours of downtime per year for planned maintenance. Even more the network infrastructure should be able to strive for four 9s

You must submit both sections as separate files for the completion of this assignment. Label each file name according to the section of the assignment it is written for. Additionally, you may create and / or assume all necessary assumptions needed for the completion of this assignment. The infrastructure which encompasses the network solution and security considerations is a major consideration for your company. Considering that the company will be expanding from one (1) floor to three (3) floors in the very near future you, as the CIO, are responsible for the design of the infrastructure and security protocols. You have been tasked with designing a network that is stable, redundant, and scalable. In addition, speed and reliability are important considerations. Assumptions should be drawn regarding network usage in relationship to network services and resources. All the established criteria that were set at the onset should be adhered to within your plan. The network solution that is chosen should support the conceived information system and allow for scalability. The network infrastructure will support organizational operations; therefore, a pictorial view of workstations, servers, routers, bridges, gateways, and access points should be used. In addition, access paths for Internet access should be depicted. Additionally...

Revenue Recognition

...Deliverables for the Arrangement The deliverables for this arrangement are as follows: • Research and development • Licensing combined with research and development • The Five payments milestones as a whole An Example given in FASB 605-25-55-46 states, “The license deliverable does not meet the first criterion for separation. The license does not have standalone value to Pharma. Because Drug B has not yet been developed, the license is of no value to Pharma without the ensuing research and development activities using Technology A, which is proprietary to Biotech. Likewise, Pharma could not sell the license to another party (that is, without Biotech's agreeing to provide the research and development activities for that other party).” Likewise with the three deliverables stated above, research and development has value on a standalone basis, licensing when combined with research and development has value, and also the five milestones as a whole have value, this being that without the research and development to support the five milestones, there is no measure of their true value if sold to another party. Milestone Revenue Recognition Under FASB 605-25-55 we have concluded that a deliverable be measured and accounted for separately under these circumstances: (1) The delivered item has value to the customer on a standalone basis, (2) There is objective and reliable evidence of the fair value of the undelivered items, and (3) The arrangement includes a general right of...

Recognizing Contract Risk and Opportunities Memo

...Manager Date: April 06, 2010 Subject: Recognizing Contract Risk and Opportunities Management Team: There is grave concern with respect to the contract between Span Systems and Citizen-Schwarz and its ability to remain unharmed. The organization has made the decision to guarantee that this project gets done promptly and with first-rate quality of the outcome to enable Span’s opportunity of getting C-S’s e-CRM order. The accomplishment of acquiring the next contract with C-S is relies heavily on the current project’s status. The company is committed to getting this project finished affably between each party. The performance within the contract is one of the issues within the project. C-S’s position is we are late on schedule and our product deliverable is not the best of in quality as forecasted by C-S. The language of the contract maintains that C-S may not repeal the contract if greater than 50% of the project schedule has passed; however, C-S is demonstrating that the performance within this period has indicated the quality of product deliverables is inadequate and consequently it is within their rights to assert that we have not significantly executed. The project management team at Span will argue against this claim due to the amplified change of end user obligations. To rectify this, we have been in discussions over the contract clauses and come up with some terms of concurrence. We both agreed we did not want to rescind the contract or have settled this...

Jennifer Go-Go

...Case Study 1 1. How should Jennifer go about making her decision? Jennifer should evaluate each proposal and use criteria that will fairly indicate what project would be best to invest additional money in to for future growth and savings. She can use project selection and develop a set of criteria against which the project will be evaluated, list assumptions that will be used as the basis of the project, gather data and information, and evaluate each project against the determined criteria. 2. What kind of additional data or information should she collect? I believe that she should request information or data regarding the scope, schedule, cost, and customer satisfaction expectations of the projects and their goals. I have explained each below for better understanding. Scope – All the work that must be done to produce all the project deliverables that meet the customer requirements and acceptance criteria and accomplish the project objective. Schedule – A timetable for a project indicating when activities are planned or need to be started and finished. Cost – The overall cost it will require to complete the project in its entirety. Customer Satisfaction – After the project has been completed the customer feels as if they have received the services expected and the project was completed to their standards and expectations. However I know these can be considered restraints and that should be a heavily weighed factor in the decision making in the end. 3. What exactly should...

Project Life Cycle

...Project Life Cycle The four sequential major time periods through which any project passes, namely: 1. Concept 2. Definition 3. Execution (implementation or development) 4. Finishing (commissioning or close out). Each period may be identified as a Phase and further broken down into stages that typically reflect the area of project management application and the size and complexity of the specific project. [D01432] A collection of project phases whose name and number are determined by the control needs of the organization or organizations involved in the project. [D01428] The complete set of time periods through which a project passes sequentially in a logical and orderly manner. In its simplest form the life cycle consists of four major periods: 1. Concept (where the project concept as a need solution is selected and defined) 2. Development or Definition (where the concept is verified and developed into a workable plan for implementation) 3. Implementation (where the implementation plan is carried out); and 4. Closeout (where the project process is completed and documented, and the finished product is transferred to the care, custody and control of the owner.) Progress through the project life cycle is identified by ‘milestones’, but these major periods should be separated by ‘Control Gates’ or ‘Executive Control Points’. [D01429] The four sequential phases in time through which any project passes, namely: Concept; Definition (or Development);...

Tim and Funding

...Few memories as a failure on a major project from half a decade ago still vividly remains in memories. As a Research Assistant to Tim, it was my first paid job. Tim, an Engineer, worked in silos and had driver social style to his heart beat. He only communicated the expectations without delving in the details that he had in his mind. Even though the Office space was a closed knit space for 16 students, Tim seldom hung out with people to build personal relationships. He only interacted with others when there was a need. His lack of explanation on why the project was needed had left me wondering regarding purpose and design aspects of the new programming project. I struggled on how to effectively design the project and often sought help from other people, who recommended me that the project needed investment in new programming platform as old platform was incapable of achieving the project objectives. After making almost no progress on the project and wasting time in attempts to make old platform workable, I received a vehement email from Tim, stating that XYZ Inc. was deciding to scale back on funding, as no progress reports were submitted. I was shocked to learn that I was even expected to submit progress reports at the end of quarter on the undertaken project in which I had neither any clue nor communication. As an amiable person, I was too quick to reach an agreement with Tim on project deliverables. I had thought that I would be receiving friendly advice and guidance from...

Temporary Performance Management

At the moment, it is vitally important to make sure the client will have all deliverables by the agreed upon date. By working with the consultant, I will also be given the opportunity to monitor and observe their work behaviors in a way that I could propose temporary performance management techniques such as goal setting and behavioral intervention to get the consultant back on track. With these performance management methods, they can continue until the consultant either consistently meets their goals or their behavior has been changed and sustained so that they will continue to follow best practices...

Strategic Management in Project Management

...Introduction A Project is any undertaking that has definite, final objectives representing specified values to be used in the satisfaction of some service or need. The reason why companies undertake projects is because they come up with strategic intent, achieve better results and increase its competitive advantage. Project Success In the past projects success was measured using the “triple constraint”, delivering the project on time, within budget and to specification. Contemporary management of projects has shifted to being measured strategically. Consequently, the evaluation of the success of projects has also changed to incorporate parameters beyond the “triple constraint”. This led to project success being measured in four dimensions according to Shenhar 1. Dimension 1- Efficiency; measure of whether the project was completed on time and within budget. 2. Dimension 2- Impact on the customer; ensuring that the specifications were met and required service/production is delivered while adhering to good quality. 3. Dimension 3-Impact on business; an analysis of return on investment, return on equity, increase in profits and other revenues to the business after project implementation. 4. Dimension 4- Building for the future; what new developments or positive opportunities were brought about by the project e.g. new market line or infrastructure. Using these four dimensions there are 2 types of projects. 1. External customer projects aimed to create products and services...
