English

...Christina Grieb Professor Boughner PSYC-2301 12 February 2013 Learning Strategies The most interesting strategy in the article to me, was the “Highlighting and underlining”. I myself have wondered if the process of highlighting has had any effect on my intake of knowledge. I can recall being a young girl of about thirteen years old and receiving my first teenage Bible. I excitedly started to read it. Knowing that in the coming visits to our church that there would be tests given on the material in the book. So determined to do my best I proceeded to take my handy dandy highlighter to the text. After about a week of going over the first few chapters; Sunday finally came around. At that time I confidently cracked open my Bible to go over the information that I had highlighted. This was my first experience with overmarking. There was very little that I had not attacked with my pink marker. I can understand and relate to the fact that “overmarking reduces the degree to which marked text is distinguished from other text” (Lorch, Lorch, &Klusewitz,1995 ). However I think that if done right highlighting and underlining could be beneficial. All through high school and now with college, there is an immense need to stay on top of reading assignments. With the amount of reading that is necessary; you tend to try to find a technique to help speed the process along and still intake the information that will be relevant in class. In the article after being tested...

Alcoholism

...Madison Jones PSYC 2301 Alcoholism in the U.K., U.S.A., & Canada I chose these three countries because one of them has a drinking age of 18, one has a drinking age of 19, and the other one has a drinking age that is 21. I thought it would be interesting to compare these three countries in regards to how the legal drinking age corresponds to its alcoholism rates. To begin, the average population for each country is as follows: U.K.64.4 million, U.S.-323.4 million, and Canada-35.4 million (Graph A). Compared to the UK and Canada, the US has 223.6 million more people than the other two countries combined. As far as what percentage of each individual’s population that qualifies as alcoholic, about 14% of the UK drinks more than the legal limit regularly, about 4% of the US has an issue with the drug, and about 9% of the population of Canada is considered to be alcoholic (Graph B). The reason why the UK’s percentage is so high might be due to its drinking age. Since alcohol is more readily available to the youth of the United Kingdom, it would make sense that the rate of alcoholism would be much higher than in countries like the United States. This is also a problem in Canada, where alcohol is considered to be “the most abused drug in Canada” (1). This is most likely due to the drinking age as well. While the UK and Canada sit about five percent, the US has a surprisingly low score of 4%. One would think that the United States would have had a higher percentage because...

What to Look Forward to as I Begin Educational Experience

...ENUMA NGENE PSYC 2301 04-16-14. PERSONALITY The personality test shows my results as follows; Extroversion: I got a low score of 21. I totally agree with it and I know deep within me that am not very outgoing. I like to go out every once in a while but so much outings could weigh me down. I would rather prefer to be indoors most of the time doing things I enjoy doing like watching movies, listening to music, browsing and so much more. I like to have my quiet moments indoors. Generally speaking, I am cool, calm and collected. Conscientiousness: In this part I scored a percentage of 66. In other words I was slightly above average. I tend to agree with the test result because over the years, I have seen myself working hard to achieve what I want in life. I tend to be more of perfectionist because if things do not turn out the way I want it or the way it should be I get a little frustrated. I would stop at nothing till I obtain the required result, only then will I feel satisfied or at ease with myself. I also know when to slow things down when the need calls for one. Neuroticism: I scored a high of 75. I disagree with this result because I do not see myself as being moody, only once in a while and even when I feel that way, it does not take long for me to get over it. Envy and jealousy is not a trait I find myself to possess despite the fact that every human has those abilities. It is not dominant in me. Also I tend to look on the bright side of everything...

...Mylisah Choate September 16,2014 Psyc 2301 “Who Am I” Essay Trapped in Bewilderment I pulled my hair back, twisted my t-shirt with my sports bra strap, checked my makeup and breezed out of my parent’s house with my sports bag. My teammates and I had have held two state champs in softball, and there never seemed to be a Sunday when we weren’t using the gym to our advantage. Our goal was to be in open gym before the baseball team. I think it was our way of showing off our athleticism in a feministic kind of way. I have always been your average girl with dark pigmented skin, brown hair and eyes, very athletic and outgoing, always excited to learn something new, got along with everyone, held a decent grade point average that got me through high school and onto college. I was the kind of girl of every man’s dream; according to most of the guys I know. Some of whom who took it to their advantage(s) no matter the consequences or sacrifices they were willing to take. I am going to completely drop the ball and be blunt at this point. Take out of it what you will. I have told this story a numerous amounts of times; it never changes and never will for that matter. So, I have learned that it’s best to let people think what they want, even if they think it’s all made up. The spring of 2008, I was sexually abused during one of our open gym days on a Sunday evening, by two boys just slightly older than I was. Before I encountered the unexpected. I was always attracted to this one...
