Argosy University | Psychology in The Community | Resources for Domestic Violence Victims, Addiction Counseling, and Faith-Based Treatment for Logan, Ut. | | Stefani Coltrin | 6/22/2015 |

The contents in this paper are to help those who are looking for domestic violence services, drug addiction counseling, and faith-based treatment. These are some of the options available for the Logan, Ut and Northern Utah area. |

If you are a client who was looking for substance abuse treatment first you would need to find out if you want outpatient or inpatient treatment. If you are looking for outpatient treatment Bear River Substance Abuse has an IOP program that you can attend for 4 weeks while being there 4 hours a day. Bear River Substance Abuse Program also provides classes such as early recovery group, recovery skills, relapse prevention, women’s group, and aftercare.
There are a lot amazing inpatient rehabs that are designed for both males and females. If you are a mother who is trying to get your child back then the House of Hope would be good suggestion. The House of Hope offers a great program called “Women and Children” where they offer much more than just substance abuse. They will assist you with getting your children back, let your children live with you, and provide a lot of educational classes.
Most residential treatment centers are longer than 30 days. Some of the inpatient treatment facilities that I would recommend days are House of Hope, Odyssey House, Action Recovery Group, or Ogden Regional Medical Center. Only some of these places have options to stay for only 30 days.
If you are looking for inpatient treatment here is a link to a website that will show you all the rehabs located in Utah https://treatment.psychologytoday.com/rms/state/Utah.html. All of these rehabs are approved by Psychology Today.
If you are someone who is looking for more of a spiritual based treatment and don’t have the insurance to cover treatment than I would recommend a 12 step house like The Women’s Retreat House (for women) or Valley Camp (for men).
I would also suggest that you attend all the 12 step meetings that you can. I would recommend that you find an NA meeting schedule, an AA meeting schedule and an ARP meeting schedule (if you are LDS). You can find these schedules at Adult Probation and Parole, Bear River Substance Abuse/Mental Health, and The Recovery Café.
For example, Logan’s living clean group of Narcotics Anonymous meets every Monday and Tuesday at the Prince of Peace church from 6:00-7:00. Hungry for Recovery group meets Thursday and Saturday at The Recovery Café.
If you are someone who is victim of domestic and sexual abuse I would recommend going to a shelter that is outside of town, if possible, so it is harder for your partner to locate you. Your safety is priority.
In Logan there is a nonprofit organization called CAPSA (Citizens Against Physical and Sexual Abuse). CAPSA provides women with many different resources who are trying to escape from an abusive partner. Their mission is to provide a safe, caring, and confidential shelter. They provide advocacy, support for victims of abuse, and their goal is to reduce incidents of abuse through prevention education. CAPSA is a shelter for women and children. They provide domestic violence services, sexual assault and rape services, educational support groups, transitional housing and prevention education. Some other services include filing for protective orders and helping you deal with civil stalking injunctions. You can reach an advocate at 435-753-2500 or visit them at http://www.capsa.org/en/.
The nearest shelter outside of town is in Brigham, Ut approximately 27 miles away. The New Hope Crisis Center’s mission is to provide all-inclusive, integrated, victim-centered services to stabilize and support individuals and families. Some of the classes provided at the shelter are adult life skills, youth life skills, anger management, and financial empowerment. They provide 24 hour crisis assistance, justice court advocacy, domestic violence support groups, counseling, and educational presentations. You can contact them at 435-723-5600 or you can visit their website at http://www.newhopecrisiscenter.org.
The Victim Services Division of Cache Valley consists of three full-time advocates who deal with serious offenses in First District court and a fourth part-time advocate who deals with misdemeanor offenses in Logan City Justice Court. These advocates assist the victims through the criminal court process. They ensure that the victims rights are being protected, that victims are kept informed, remain free from harassment, and are treated respectfully.
Utah State University also has resources. The USU SAAVI (sexual assault & anti violence) office provides safe and confidential counseling. The Center for Women and Gender, in partnership with SAAVI, the Psychology Department, Student Services, the USU Police Department, and Office on Violence Against Women are many other great resources. You can find out more by going into the USU SAAVI office.
Unfortunately, there are not a lot of faith-based options in Logan, Ut. The LDS Church has a lot of resources available. LDS Family Services is a great place to go if you are looking for resources. They can also provide religious counsel for those who are LDS. If you want faith-based treatment I would recommend talking with your pastor, priest, or bishop first. Once you do that finding a Christian counselor is the next important step. The best way to find a Christian Therapist or Psychologist is to search for them in your area. Psychologytoday.com will help you find all the nearest Christian Therapists.
There is another website called masternet.org. This website is for parents who are dealing with troubled youth and want to find a Christian Therapist. The phone number on the website was 866-439-0775.
Fortunately, there are a lot of options outside of Logan, Ut if you are interested in Christian Based Therapy. You would have to travel but Northern Utah does offer a good variety of options. For example, there is the Shepherd’s Staff Christian Center in Sandy, Ut, Center for Christian Therapy in Cottonwood Hieghts, Ut, Zion Recovery Center and Hope Christian Counseling in Salt Lake City, Ut. Most of these facilities offer both inpatient and outpatient treatment.
If you are looking for addiction services the LDS Church provides a 12 step program called ARP (addiction recovery program). You can contact your bishop or go to The LDS Family Services for more information or visit their website at https://addictionrecovery.lds.org/.
